Ask your physician questions if you don't understand what they just said. You can also take a family member to take notes and suggest questions. I wanted the fastest appointment so they gave me a nurse practitioner, I agreed since my problem was not super serious anyways. But when I went to see her, I felt very dismissed of my concerns even though I mentioned that a telehealth derm told me to go get a dermoscopy. She just glanced at my face and started up selling their clinic's $50+ skincare items which left a bad taste in my mouth. Based on this experience, I don't intend to return to this dermatology clinic, even to see one of their MDs. read more

Beware of this clinic! Because Dr. Chan possessed impressive credentials, I requested an appointment for my mom. During the initial appointment, she spoke very fast and examined my mom quickly. I thought it was strange that she carried an Rx pad in her pocket and readily prescribed a very expensive skin cream to be purchased at an out-of-state pharmacy for a small discount. She then said her assistant would be seeing my mom in the future. The follow-up appointment was suppose to only check my mom's skin as it improved per doctor's order. Instead Dr. Chan's assistant performed an unnecessary biopsy that left stitches and made matters worse by extending the amount of time for my mom's skin to heal. It was exasperating with subsequent appointments. Don't expect to keep seeing a doctor after the initial appointment. The overall experience felt like a bait-and-switch to attract new patience for the assistants to gain experience like a clinic vs a doctor's office. Lastly, the front desk staff was inexperienced and disorganized. Expect to wait 15-30 minutes in the waiting room. read more

This review is purely reflective of the front-of-house team. Dr. Vacarro and Liu are amazing physicians. Unfortunately, they are allowing their FOH to tarnish their reputations. Long story short, my family and I went back and forth with the FOH for weeks on end discussing insurance coverage. The finance team confirmed coverage, whereas one receptionist in particular insisted our insurance was not accepted. Turns out the receiptionist was flat out wrong. They were disrespectful and dismissive throughout. Never apologized. My message to the doctors is simple: stop employing inconsiderate, entitled and rude front-of-house receptionists. Due to this miserable interaction, we've decided to take our family's business elsewhere. read more

As I age, having to deal with incompetent people is inexcusable. Oct. 2022 I saw one of their doctors for my eczema and was given a prescription. When I went to the pharmacy I was informed the ointment was over $300. I asked the pharmacy to contact the doctor to see if there was a generic or an alternative. No one ever called back. When I learned of this, I called the office. I never received a call back. I did my best to let it go. July 2023 I had an appointment with the lead doctor to screen for skin cancer. And also talk about my eczema. She was attentive and prescribed a cream. If anything, the cream helped for about 20% of my problem. In Jan. 2025 I wanted to refill the cream. My pharmacy said there was no response from the doctor's office. So, I called and was told that I had to either make an appointment or a FaceTime appointment. I chose the latter and spoke to a PA. She asked me 3 questions (one question was did I have any allergic reaction to the cream?) which took all of a minute at most. Then I received an invoice (it was for part of my deductible) but in reading the invoice, the office charged me about $300. for that one minute call. The actual cream co-pay was only $5. Does that even sound legit? Unethical in my eyes. But that wasn't the problem. The amount on the invoice I was responsible for was about $100. I received an invoice and replied with an email that the amount was paid by United Healthcare. I received a second invoice and replied by email that it was paid and I also included a copy of the United Healthcare payment letter. Then I received a third invoice. So, I contacted United Healthcare to get the check number, date check written, date check was deposited because obviously they had not done any follow-up. And I emailed that information to them. Today, five months after the first invoice I received a fourth invoice. The last two invoices said the amount was past due. This one read "if it isn't paid, it would go to a collection agency". Please do that - because I will sue you clowns for harassment and elder abuse, you incompetent morons. After I did all the work, these monkeys couldn't even find that the amount was paid. Basic middle school math would have sufficed. Stay away from this circus. read more

We have been coming to Huntington Dermatology for decades. Dr. Vaccaro and Dr. DaVolio are remarkable physicians and human beings. Dr. Chan is detailed, caring, compassionate and expert in her surgery. The front of the house staff and doctors' assistants are personable, caring and on time. Enormous waste of time and poorly trained reception staff. Similar to other reviewers, I will comment that no one answers the phone. Voicemail, leave a message, and then you receive an auto-text reply in which you have to say [again] why you're calling. The doctor was too busy to book an appointment, and I was told that a nurse practitioner could perform the simple procedure which I needed (and described over the phone). When I arrived at the office, I was informed (for the first time) that the office would not bill the insurance because they considered the procedure cosmetic. What?!!! But if I wanted to pay minimum $150 cash, then perhaps they could do it. First of all, why would my insurance company provide a referral if the procedure was not covered? Second of all, if in reality that is a common enough occurrence that the office doesn't even attempt to bill for it, why couldn't the reception staff have informed me of that over the phone so that I could make a decision AT THAT TIME instead of taking off work, driving to the congested area near Huntington Hospital, parking in the structure, and hiking over to an adjacent building? The receptionist flippantly said, "Well, the parking is free for the first 15 minutes." FALSE. I paid $3 parking on the way out for what turned out to be a completely aggravating experience with incompetent, poorly trained staff with false information. read more

Hm, the negative reviews for this office make me really sad. I started seeing Dr. Davolio in 2022 for a hand/dermatitis condition I'd had for 3 years at that time (I avoided seeing a dermatologist for years b/c of the pandemic and the horror stories I'd heard about steroid creams), and she was amazing. She was upfront about the time it'd take for my hands to heal and addressed my concerns one by one. Seeing her has been a lifechanger for my hands and quality of life (who knew?!). In addition, the front office staff have always been extremely helpful and I am so grateful. read more

I came here because my friend highly recommended Dr Chan for a mole removal. I called them initially and she was booked many months ahead, initially she was not available until May, then when I called back a month later she wasn't available until August. I decided to proceed with a Nurse Practitioner to schedule a first consultation. I had a quick appointment that lasted about 10 minutes. She didn't tell me anything new, she said she would consult with Dr Chan and then they would give me a call back on how to best proceed. I waited for a month, no call followed. Then I called them back and I've been told that I was advised to come for follow up appointments every 3-6 months and that it is only for the consultation (again), that would not even be the actual procedure. And when I asked about Dr Chan's availability, I've been told she isn't available till May and that I would have to do the pre-consultation again first, before any procedure with her (so to go back to NP). The receptionist was rude and at the end when I said I'd think about it, she said 'OK, bye'. For the prices they are charging, the level of service is 1/5. The receptionist didn't say anything about me not hearing back after a month but rather sounded annoyed and did not apologize whatsoever. Dr Chan might be good in what she does, but in order to even to get to her, you have to go through a series of unnecessary steps with a lot of wasted time. I had the worst experience with them and hope they improve their service in future. read more

I visited Dr. Vaccaro Seth few months ago to remove a small mole, but unfortunately, the procedure left the mole incompletely removed. Upon contacting the doctor's assistant, I was informed that the doctor considered it a deep mole and should be done by a plastic surgeon while they didn't mention it during the procedure and it was very small and easy mole to remove .This's wasted my time, energy, and money, Disappointing experience overall. read more

Problems: -RUSH RUSH RUSH! It was so clear they want to get you out as quickly as possible. I was a brand new patient and saw the doctor for max 7 minutes. When I made the appointment, I said I needed to have something removed. When I got there, the doctor said I had to make an additional appointment because removal appointments are longer and she wouldn't have time today. This would mean another co-pay for me, even though I specified from the start when I needed to have done. -All about the upselling: they pressured me into buying the products that they sell. It was like a bad Tupperware party. -I did buy one product but the communication is so bad among staff that they gave me the wrong item. Now I'm stuck with it because "all sales are final". They weren't clear enough with me what the product was so I couldn't tell the difference until I opened it (the one the doctor showed me was clear, the one they sold me isn't) and the nurse didn't tell the receptionist the right thing. So their error, my $40 wasted. -I've gotten hundreds of injections like this over my lifetime with other doctors. There's always the risk of a small skin indentation if it's not done just right. And they always warn you about this. This is the FIRST TIME EVER I've had it done that the indentation happen. It's because she used too high a concentration of the injection. (Again, I've had hundreds of these, they always say the concentration aloud). She used that same high concentration on my body cyst (this is normal) but never should have used it on my face. I'm guessing she was in too much of a rush to make up a new syringe. I now have an indented dark spot on my chin forever. -Questionable medical advice. I get occasional cysts/cystic acne that has to be injected. The doctor's answer to this was "take a low-dose antibiotic INDEFINITELY to prevent this". What?! Going elsewhere for sure. read more

Dr. Chan has completely changed my skin! I have been to many dermatologists over the years and she is the first one to diagnose me with rosacea. With the help of a very kind person at the appointment desk, I was able to make an appointment with Dr. Chan regarding a lump that was concerning me. Dr. Chan is a kind and compassionate healthcare professional. She listens to your concerns and provides you with her professional opinion. She removed a cyst from my neck a month ago, and I am amazed at how little the scar shows already in that short period of time. I would like to give less than 1 star to this dermatology medical group. I called to make an appointment with a Doctor and I told the receptionist what exactly my problem is. She scheduled me to a nurse and said she can resolve my problem and done that easy procedure on that appointment, that's why I trust her and scheduled my appointment. That day I waited more than 30 mins and the nurse only see me for 3 mins. Then she told me it's a cosmetic thing and she cannot/ doesn't know how to resolve it. (If I know the nurse cannot do the job, I would not even waste my time to see her!) This is a BAD business group and cheated money as some other reviews said. There is no protection to patients. Their time is money and patients' time is trash?! I would not recommend anyone schedule an appointment with a nurse unless you have done good research on whether the doctor knows how to resolve your problem. (P.S. I already have a doctor to resolve my problem which is for sure not a cosmetic thing.) I am so disappointed with this bad quality medical group! read more

Huntington dermatology is a rare find. It has BOTH a courteous, capable office staff AND great doctors. I've been going to doctor DaVolio for over 20 years. She is professional, efficient, and kind. Her wide knowledge base and quick problem solving approach saved my mother from an aggressive and largely fatal skin cancer, and she is cancer free to this day. The review is from both of us--Kevin and Linda. This review relates to the whole office. The receptionists are usually the first point of contact with the office. They are competent, professional and friendly. They'll answer any and all questions you might have regarding making an appointment. Compared to the prior dermatology group my wife and I saw, this was sooooo much more pleasant. And that's just the first conversation. And imagine being seen on time at a specialist's office! We didn't have to wait! I saw Dr. Vaccaro, and he's very detail-oriented. He answered all my questions and was not in a hurry. Very refreshing for a specialist!! My wife initially saw Shibani, the Nurse Practitioner, and was really comfortable. Shabani was so thorough---she found a couple of very small irregular spots--that my wife didn't know were there. Shabani put her at ease, and referred her to Dr. Chan in the office. Dr. Joanna Chan is the "poster child" for great medical care! She immediately puts you at ease with her great bedside manner. Her expertise is off the charts, yet she communicates like she's a long-time friend. She's efficient, professional, empathetic, and fun to talk with. That's an amazing and rare combination. She finds solutions for her patients while making them feel comfotable with her. Everyone we've dealt with at Huntington Dermatology far exceeded our experience with the prior dermatology group. Our experiences with them--four appointments so far--have been at least 5-star. We thank the staff--who after all can make or break the experience--for their helpful attitude, and the doctors, who made things easy for both of us. We highly recommend this office! read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. I went in looking for answers to my daughter's skin condition. The dermatologist starting talking about a skin care regimen for a skin condition. I stopped her mid sentence and had to ask 'so her diagnosis is ___?' I would have appreciated a discussion of the condition before going into an elaborate skincare regime. The dermatologist then wrote out a very elaborate skin regime that, honestly, isn't sustainable for a teenager. No other treatment options were given, so I assumed this was the only way to treat the condition. We were then hustled out of the room to the front desk to make a 4week appointment. I was handed the items that were on the list, and papers for the prescriptions to pick up at a later date. The items were $130. I had sticker shock, but felt like this was the only treatment option and I couldn't say no having come here for answers... I came home and found that there were 2 items in the bag that weren't even on the regime list. The 2 prescriptions will cost a further $100. I called the office to complain that there were 2 items in the bag not on our list, and that I would like to return them. I was met with an "all sales are final" cold response. I stated that I was very angry, and that I had gone there seeking answers and help, not a spa experience. I told them to cancel all further appointments. If you want to go there and buy the spa products that they are pushing, then this is the place for you. read more

I've been asking for referrals for an excellent dermatologist for my age spots, adult hormonal acne, and other issues when you hit your 40s. The office is clean, the front desk is helpful and friendly and the nurses are really the ones who do the work. I felt that Dr Chan knows her field and is quick to make assessments and then prescribes a plethora of products. I walked away with a foam cleanser that can only be purchased through their office, along with 4 other products. I had to prompt her and ask what do I need? She really didn't take the time for me and I felt rushed. I asked her to help write down all the products and what time, morning or night. I don't think I would recommend her because of her rushing through the appt. read more

We have had wonderful experiences at Huntington Dermatology Group. Dr Davolio and Dr Chan have given my wife and i great medical care. the staff, not so much. I received two bills for services a short while ago. On the top of the bill - as always - enables me to fill in my credit card information to pay the outstanding balance, which i did. I got a call from their office telling me that i now had to go on their web site and pay the bill on line and the old method was no longer an option. Yet the fill in option is still front and center on their invoice. At the bottom of the invoice, it says that they no longer allow the old mail in method - and it is not obvious as at the top the old approach remains there. So if they could ADD language that the old method is no longer an option, then why not provide an all new, clear, set of directions on how to pay the bill? I know, probably not like solving Covid 19, but annoying and certainly not clear. And to top off the call i had with their staff, she was rude, condescending and indifferent to my questions. Really disappointing - the front office is always the first thing that patients experience. read more

I walked out of her office completely thrilled with the results! They did a bit of a liquid eyebrow lift which was something I needed but didn't even know I needed. With so many Zoom calls during this pandemic, it was a much needed form of self care and a great lift - literally and figuratively. I came to get my 9 month old daughter's ears pierced and I was not disappointed! The front desk is very welcoming and their waiting area is clean and nice. I was taken into a room within 2 min of my arrival and the room was so welcoming! Very clean and I felt safe despite the current pandemic. Dr. Davolio, Dr. Chan, and Rechel assisted in doing my daughters piercings. I am incredibly, highly satisfied with the way they turned out and they way they treated my daughter and I! Dr. Davolio is a great doctor! She knows her stuff. Her office staff has always been nice and courteous to me. I read some of the reviews and I have never experienced anyone being rude. I've been going to her office for years. I had a small black dot on my nose and other doctors have ignored it. She tested it and it came back as basal cell carcinoma. I had Mo's surgery. Luckily it was caught early enough. I'm thankful she didn't ignore me and I still have my nose. I have an HMO and she helps me navigate the referral process. I'm prone to cysts too and she always takes care of them. She is very caring. She never pushes products or procedures on me. I now get fillers and botox. She is conservative and skilled and I never look overdone. My daughter has been happy with Dr. Davolio too. read more

I was recently referred to Huntington Dermatology Group by my primary care physician. It was confirmed that they accepted my insurance but when I arrived at their office they informed me my referral number wasn't right and the doctor would not see me unless... I agreed to pay cash. I thought this was not right, very irregular and unprofessional. Now I see similar reports on YELP. Is this a bait and switch operation? Do they claim to accept insurance referrals under false pretenses? Is the whole idea to extract cash from patients? It is not my intention to unjustly accuse anybody of something illegal, but...my advice is to fine a different dermatologist. read more

I had been seeing multiple doctors and dermatologists and allergists all over California and could not find anything that worked. I was in a lot of discomfort and pain that seemed never-ending.
