I needed a dermatologist for my yearly skin check. This was my 7th year of remission from Stage 3 spindle cell melanoma. Dr. Sara Gaspard had an opening so I saw her for this check. She conducted the appointment professionally, yet very fast. She asked me no questions, brushed her hand across my skin checking and glancing, and was done within a few minutes. I asked for a spot on my nose to be spray freezed, and after returning home I saw she missed the spot I asked her to treat. During the healing process the spot remained untouched. I am a cash patient, and saved for months to afford this visit. I left the office questioning the health of my skin. Throughout my cancer experience over the past 10 years, I have seen various doctors, oncologists, surgeons, and dermatologists. I remain disappointed and surprised at Dr Gaspard's quality of care in my case. read more

I wish every doctor was like Dr. Gaspard. Seriously, she's the best dermatologist ever, plus a very nice person. She had so much expertise and information for me about a skin condition, and suggestions no other derm had ever given me, plus they actually worked. I had to call her after hours for a possible complication to a medication and she could not have been more gracious or kind. I would have no problem going to her for any cosmetic procedure- you want a doc who "gets it" and is basing their work on obvious experience, knowledge and sensitivity to the patient. Dr. Gaspard is incredible. I recently went to have her fix overdone filler by another injector. I've gone to her to have filler done in the past and she's done an incredible job. I took my chances with someone new and definitely regretted it. I went to Dr. Gaspard to fix the overfilled filler as I didn't feel comfortable, going to the injector who had done the overfilling. She was so understanding and made me feel completely comfortable to go to her to get the filler dissolved. I can confidently say that I probably will never go to anyone else but her again. read more

Last week I went to see Dr. Sara Gaspard for the first time. My family doctor had recommended her. I had some skin rashes, but mostly an embarrassing growth under my left eye that had started to protrude. Obviously, I was nervous. Then, in walked this beautiful young woman with a kind smile and a winsome way. I said, "You're too pretty and too young to be a doctor." She laughed. "I have two children, the oldest is thirteen." I pointed at the growth that had disfigured my face. She said, "I can remove that in ten seconds." And she did. She removed the other skin rashes in a flash and there was no pain. I can not tell you how professional she was and how kind. I'm just a nobody, but she made me feel like I was a celebrity. A word of caution to you men. Wear clean underwear. She's thorough. Ha. If you are fortunate enough to get Dr. Sara Gaspard to accept you as a patient, you will be most fortunate. She is beyond excellent and words are not enough to adequately illumine her. This was my 2nd time going to Dr. Gaspard. First time I went to her for one procedure which was a filler.  This was before the pandemic and she did not charge for my touch up since I was not satisfied with the result the 1st time. After the touch up I still wasn't 100% but I was content. Being a good patient, I decided to give her another try.  This time I had 3 different procedures of  fillers done all at the same time in 3 areas. I spent thousand of dollars to get a satisfying result. I specifically asked her that if the results are not to my expectation, if I would be able to come back for a touch up. She confirmed, of course. So after 2 weeks it seemed to me my faced barely showed any change after paying so much money. When I addressed to her that I don't see much difference  she claimed she is very conservative. However that to me didn't make any sense cause you are not there to see a 10% result. You want to see 80% result that is why you pay that amount of money. I pointed to her that all the areas she did work I didn't see any change. After her consultation she finally agreed to do the touch up. Little did I know another girl comes in asking me to pay additional fee for the touch up. All 3 procedures did not even come close to seeing a difference from what she did 2 weeks ago. I got so upset and disappointed that I addressed this issue to the girl as to why I should pay for a touchup  when I don't even see any results after paying so much money from the 1st day. She said she is sorry and this is what the doctor told her that she would not to this without me paying again. I got up and I said the doctor doesn't care about her patience and its all about money. Paying that much money you would want to see a radical result, and you would hope that your doctor would understand if you weren't pleased that she would do anything to fix it. Totally unprofessional of her. I called and I complained again saying I am totally disappointed as how they didn't take care of me. The lady on the phone said she will talk to the doctor and get back to me. They never called me back. Reputation is the key to success. She seems to only care about her pocket and not the patience satisfaction. I personally will never go back to that office. read more

I just read the the 1 star reviews here and they are spot on. Do yourself a favor and read them before making an appointment. After waiting 3 weeks for an appt with this "doctor", and a further 1 hour in the waiting room, she graced me with a few minutes of her presence (honestly, 10 mins max, but probably more like 7). I had wanted quite a few things checked on my skin, but wasn't even asked to change into a gown when I got into the waiting room. Of the two main reasons I was there, one was due to a growth on my arm which she was going to remove. However, because I wasn't in a gown, I started to take my top off, but she said there's no need and just told me to pull my sleeve (it was on my upper arm, near my shoulder). When I tried, I heard my top tearing! Unbelievable, right? After she removed the growth, (it took a few seconds), I then asked about a couple of issues I had, but she just asked if my mother had those issues, too, and I said she did. So she simply chalked my problems (serious ones if you ask me) up to genetics! I'd waited weeks for this? It was unreal. There was another thing that happened that I'm just not okay sharing publicly, but suffice it to say that the whole ordeal was just so unprofessional! I felt so rushed and forgot to show her half the things I wanted to and forgot to ask even more! When I asked about spider vein removal, she didn't even ask to see my legs, but said she'd send in someone to talk to me about the treatment costs! What if I had varicose veins or wasn't a good candidate for this treatment? Gaspard uses some type of chemical for treatment with the list of side effects including possible DVT and death! Oh yeah, sign me up! What upset me the most was that she wanted to biopsy something on my nose, but told me I'd have a big wound so if I didn't want it done then, to come back. Well, when I went to the desk to leave, I had a $75 copay and thought, no way am I paying another $75 to this woman when I can have it done now. So I told them I wanted to have it done after all. Now if she'd already gone to the next patient, I understand I'd have to wait again, and was willing to do so, however, I wasn't given that option. Nope, just not happening. There was no apology for the one hour wait, mind you, and not to give me 5 minutes was outrageous. After my appointment, I came across a website (DollarsForDocs) where you can check how much $ doctors get from pharmaceutical companies, etc. I checked my general practitioner who had about $200 in payments over 3 years. However, Gaspard has received a total of over $25K from 2013-2015 (I wonder how the last few years since then have been for her?) Check it out yourself, don't believe me; it's public info. Don't stick your head in the sand and say, "Oh, she was paid for a speaking engagement or it was food and beverage." SHE WAS PAID BY THE DRUG COMPANIES. I prefer that my doctor isn't prescribing and using drugs because they feel they "owe" that company with all the kickbacks they've received. What about you? After seeing this information, it totally fit with how I felt in her office: she was clearly more interested in making money than helping me. If it's not already blatantly obvious, I would not recommend this woman. To me, her behavior is not indicative of how a real doctor behaves and treats her patients. read more

At first, I thought she was a nurse trainer, but I have attended 4 other trainings and no nurse understands anatomy & physiology and product placement like her. I have to agree with N. M. This doctor's bedside manner does leave something to be desired. During one appointment, I told her about a medication I was taking. She suggested another. When I asked her the difference between the two medications she said, with a touch of condescension in her tone: "They are different medications." No shit Sherlock. I didn't need a medical doctor to tell me that two different prescription drugs are two different prescription drugs. She didn't bother to explain the actual differences between the two medications. Walked in with a appointment for the first time, cold welcome and minimal assistance.. Walked out in less then 5 minutes of writing my name. I just wanted to know if I was covered by my insurance. I tried to call, but their server was down and I figured the receptionist out front could inform me a little better about the procedures from experience. When asked if my insurance covers me and to be told that "my insurance will be billed" I would be better off asking the door that on the way in and throwing money at a plant, cause that sneaky double-talk is NEVER a way to talk to a patient. CON ARTISTS dodge questions and answer around the bush. Yes, I am covered. Yes, but you need to co-pay. Yes, but you have a deductible. No you are not covered. Are all acceptable answers, but your answer pretty much says, "Either way, we just want your money, I dont care if your covered or not... We're just gonna bill you anyways" If this is how I felt about the receptionist, I cant imagine what surprises the doctor or staff will do. Word of advice, to the staff... A clinic/hospital is a place where the patient NEEDS to feel comfortable and trust the staff. You CAN'T trust someone that hides shit from you. I'm frankly stunned at the one-star reviews. Not because I don't believe the experiences described...I can't imagine why a reviewer would be untruthful. But simply because across a LOT of visits to Dr. Gaspard I have had nothing but good experiences with her, her colleagues and the office staff. When my previous dermatologist retired a few years ago, I became a patient of Dr. Gaspard's practice. I'm of an age and skin type (very fair) such that my visits are ridiculously frequent and nearly always require a biopsy...or more. I never have a long wait and I've always been treated respectfully and diligently. She's efficient with her time (and mine, which I appreciate), but never to such a degree that I don't feel I'm getting her undivided and unrushed attention. She doesn't make you feel comfortable during your visit, instead she rushes the appointment as if she is too busy for you. I have acne and it's really embarrassing to show people my pimples without makeup. Without going into too much detail, I was not pleased with my 2 visits. I won't be going back. I was given an incorrect prescription and the Dr.'s diagnosis was wrong. This wrong diagnosis caused me great discomfort and cost me a lot of money. Though I like my old dermatologist (Nita Patel), I wanted someone closer to work, so I made an appointment with Dr. Gaspard. I walked in dead-set on not buying anything my insurance wouldn't cover - you know, those really expensive cosmetic creams, etc? Plus, I keep telling myself I'm far too young for any of that nonsense. (Ok, fine, maybe not.) Dr. Gaspard reviewed my current regimen, made a slight change, and when I pointed out my skin's predisposition to really persistent post-acne marks, she brought up one of those aforementioned expensive creams. At first I resisted, but she explained that insurance just doesn't cover anything related to pigmentation, so if I really did want to get rid of marks quickly, I didn't have much of a choice. Out I walked, gritting my teeth a little, with $100 bottle of Obagi Clear and the realization that I could make a killing if I switched to a career involving skincare product development. I'm relieved to report that a month later, the cream is working, as is Dr. Gaspard's advice. In summary - the visit was relatively quick but not rushed. The office is spacious and modern, parking is easy/cheap, and Dr. Gaspard is friendly and willing to address questions/concerns. Recommended. read more

Excellent physician, efficient staff, great experience. Full disclosure- I'm a physician as well and I'm very picky about my doctors. I can smell an incompetent MD from a mile away. I just came from my initial visit with Dr. Gaspard and was very impressed with every aspect of the experience. First impression- the girls in reception were professional and efficient and helped me fill out the new patient paperwork quickly. The waiting room is clean and comfortable without being overly spa-like (a common theme in Derm offices). I was in an examining room in less than 10 minutes and Dr. Gaspard was in to see me less than 5 minutes later. I had three issues I wished to address, Dr. Gaspard took her time discussing each with me and made sure all my questions were answered to my satisfaction. She examined me thoroughly and efficiently and had a very easy and comfortable bedside manner. Even as a fellow physician it's slightly unnerving to be completely exposed in front of someone you've just met; Dr. Gaspard made this a non issue with her professional yet easy going demeanor. Checkout was a breeze and I was on my way in less than 45 minutes total, a minor miracle in today's health care environment. I'm ecstatic to have found an excellent new doctor in Pasadena and will recommend her without reservation to my friends and family (and to all of you on Yelp). read more

All I have to say is Dr. Gaspard is a professional. I had a reaction to a filler after 3 months of the procedure and when I called the office I was seen right away. She was very concerned, gave me her email address so we could correspond as we dissolved the filler. She even offered to come in on Sunday if I needed. I was then very apprehensive about doing something again and she understood and told me that when I was "ready" to try again she would use a different product and not charge me. I won't say how long it took me to go back but it was longer then you would think.... when I did make an appointment she remembered me, discussed what she would recommend and we moved forward and there was no fee. She is very busy but to me this is a sign of a good doctor. If she wasn't busy what would that tell you about her practice? She takes care of business and has true concern for individuals. read more

I have no idea why Dr. Gaspard has so many negative reviews. I have been going to her for acne and I think she's great. She's very personable, understanding, and a very good doctor. She always makes conversation with me and asks me what's going on with my life. Unfortunately I can't do anything too aggressive for my acne at this point, but she's done a good job keeping it under control. I also recently had a chemical peel with Gigi and it was great. I LOVE Dr. Gaspard!! I have seen several dermatologists over the years and I have never found anyone as caring and through. Not only does Dr. Gaspard know who I am every time i come in (you would be surprised how often I go to the doctor and they don't remember anything about me) I feel like she genuinely cares about me and my skin. I have had both derma logical proceeders and cosmetic ones preformed by Dr. Gaspard and she has nerve disappointed. I've been once and won't go back. She was arrogant, she rushed through the appointment, and seemed annoyed to be dealing with me. When I mentioned a skin condition, she looked at it and said "wow, that looks pretty bad!" (as if I'm not self conscious enough). She also looked at another skin condition that I've had for years with no resolution. She made a very quick diagnosis so I told her I'd seen multiple specialists to have it tested, and that they that had attempted to treat and subsequently ruled out her diagnosis with certainty. She then insisted she was correct. It was super uncomfortable so I changed the subject. She's also weirdly rough for a doctor, like lifting my gown and poking and prodding with no warning...I get she's a dermatologist, but the whole thing was just so unsettling. read more

I love and respect Dr. Gaspard and have seen her several times for usual dermatology issues. The last time I went she suggested a cosmetic procedure which I expressed interest in. When her assistant Mary Lou came in to discuss price I immediately told her that would not be within my budget. She suggested a less expensive option, within my budget, and I agreed. After the procedure at the check out area I was surprised to be handed a bill for the original amount. Thinking it was a simple error I explained to the receptionist who asked Mary Lou. Instead of getting up to have a private conversation she simply stayed seated, speaking loudly and behaving as if I was being unreasonable somehow. It was extremely uncomfortable and I haven't been back since. Ironically a friend of mine described Mary Lou in a very similar situation, trying to hustle her to spend more money on cosmetic procedures. It's unfortunate that such a fine doctor has someone so rude working for her. read more

I had a great appointment with Dr. Sara Gaspard. I was recommended to her from another Doctor at the office, Dr. Neda Black, who is also great. I went in for a general skin check as I have a family history of melanoma, as well as an odd mark on my skin that was concerning me. Dr. Sara Gaspard did a very thorough skin check going over my entire body examining all my moles, and she prescribed me a cream that has already started to reduce the mark after only a couple weeks. Dr. Gaspard made me feel that I was her most important patient in that moment as she happily took her time with me and answered all my questions. I was recommended by my long time dermatologist for cosmetic work; said he went to her himself for the things I wanted done. Dr. Gaspard was very personable; however, her laser work was so-so and when it came to Juvederm injections , she told me that was what she was giving me, injected something else without telling me, and was laughing as she did one eye. The bottom line is that I am bruised under that eye, and it is six months later. When I went back to complain, she told me (finally!) that she had used a different product than originally promised. She then used a laser which she said would clear up the bruising. No dice I returned twice for more laser treatments. The bruise remains. The last time I went in for a laser treatment for the bruise, Dr. Gaspard essentially blew me off, telling me to return in months if I was still bruised. I read the review that chalked up Dr. Gaspard's approach to the difficulty practicing medicine with the insurance rates being so low. That is true, BUT, it just doesn't explain an attitude problem. Initially, my teens liked her because she was young and very "chill" (not intense or uptight). However, Dr. Gaspard does not seem to be thorough or conscientious and after trying with her for 2 years based on good Yelp reviews, I am giving up. Her office is beautiful and will appeal to rich folks looking to spend a lot on cosmetic procedures, but that is not what we are looking for in basic dermatology. Like others have mentioned here, her billing staff are polite enough but they have made an error on our insurance billing at least three times so that we were charged and the office had to repeatedly resubmit. Most recently, while I was out of town, my teen daughter went in on her own for an urgent prescription refill, and later in the day made her way to the pharmacy on her own to pick up her urgently needed prescription, but no prescription. She called the office the next day and was simply told they would call it in, no apology. My daughter called me and told me Dr. Gaspard was rude, rushing, condescending in the way of answering questions about long medical terms, and didn't take time to answer basic questions. I have severe cystic acne which is painful and not attractive especially for someone who is a hairdresser in hollywood it's very embarrassing.
