I really like Dr. Kivett. I felt like he cared. I had melanoma and he has always taken it seriously. However, I have a scary looking spot right now. First available appointment --a month. Told receptionist I was really worried. She said to send a picture. I did. That was a week ago. I left another message. Never once did the receptionist offer concern for my situation. And no response to my email--either assuring me nor getting me in quickly or anything. Either the doctor never got the email or he also can't bother to respond. read more

I was referred to Dr Seltzer a few years back. I had new onset of cystic acne. It was the worse, especially as an adult. I never had acne in my teens so I was pretty bummed when I started breaking out. My PCP originally referred me to a dermatologist who just kept prescribing abx. My acne wasn't getting better and my face was getting scarred. I stopped seen that dermatologist and tried everything to keep from breaking out. One day while I was at work, my coworker told me about Dr Seltzer and how she struggled with really bad acne. I couldn't believe her because she had beautiful flawless skin. She showed me her before picture and I was like wow. I scheduled my appt and right away Dr Seltzer new what I had and treated me right away. Over time my acne started to go away. I was feeling good about myself again. I didn't do anything about the scars up until this year. I decided to try the Morpheus tx, unfortunately I had a side effect post tx. I had hyper-pigmented areas where I had most of my scars. I was devastated because I thought this was it and I was on my way to having clear skin. Once again Dr Seltzer knew how to take care of it. He introduced me to Victoria. He reassured me that this could be taken care of. I was a little nervous having anything else done to my face but after talking to Victoria I felt very comfortable and at ease. She definitely knew what she was talking about. She explained the tx plan and what to expect over time. Sure enough the areas began to fade and not only that my skin never looked better. I definitely didn't mind taking a day off when I had an appt. Victoria is awesome and I will continue to get facials and any recommendations to keep my skin flawless. I've gotten a lot of compliments about my skin so I will continue to refer and highly recommend Victoria if anyone else would love to have beautiful radiant skin! read more

I have been seeing dermatologists for over 35 years to treat eczema on my legs. All have given me creams, lotions, said not to wash legs as often, or attributed the problem to aging. When I saw Dr. Kivett at this office this summer, he gave me a simple to follow recommendation that solved the problem without medication. I've been eczema free for the first time ever! He was also very helpful in explaining other skin problems like brown spots and tricks to not shower as often to keep the skin from drying out and still smell good! I have very mixed feelings about my first visit with Dr. Kivett. He seems like a good dermatologist and answered a lot of my questions. However, I had to wait 2 hours to see him. During the first hour no one cared to check in or communicate with me. I had to step out of the room, in my patient gown to ask about the wait time. They told me it would take another 20 minutes because of a "complicated patient". Twenty minutes passed and still nothing. I had to step out again to go to the restroom and ask when I would be seen. The lack of communication and disregard for the patients time seems highly unethical to me. Moreover, the person waiting for me in the waiting room noticed another patient who came in after me was seen before me. All in all, it seems like this office needs to learn how to manage time effectively and how to communicate with patients. A patient should not have to wait two hours to see a dermatologist. This is not an emergency room. An appointment time should be honored and a patient's time should be respected. Although Dr. Kivett seems like a very knowledgeable dermatologist I can not look past this lack of professionalism. read more

I absolutely can not say how much I appreciated the laser work I got done at Roberts office. I've been recommended to them multiple times over the years but I was always a little tentative about doing my laser back hair removal. Finally I had enough, I gave in to the process and went to the most high end spot east of Beverly Hills. The staff is incredible. This starts with the admin staff and continues through the entire pipeline, The techs, the nurses, the laser specialists . The whole team are all just fantastic. I even was greeted by the revered doctor Robert Seltzer. The man is a legend, he is so well versed and explicated the process in such a simple and digestible way. The work they did on my back with the top laser took me three sessions at once a month. Three!!!! Most lasers with my back I was estimated would be 8-10 at almost every other clinic. I saved money and time , because the level of equipment and the exact, informed and precise work of my technician . Also, it was painless! They used this harmless numbing cream, and instead of pain I got to have a wonderful Conversation every month with my awesome laser specialist Feltin! Dr Seltzer is without a doubt the best Dermatologist. I've visited him for different skin conditions and recently came to him after an outbreak of stress induced Shingles. I came to him after being diagnosed at the Urgent care where I was given antiviral meds. Dr Seltzer gave me a shot and a new prescription to help the healing process . I feel relieved knowing that he has taken extra precautions to help the healing and scar process. My outbreak was on my neck/face area so this is greatly appreciated. Not many Dr's will do this. I love this place. I started seeing Dr. Seltzer about a year ago to look at a skin rash that turned out to be nothing. Since then I've seen him for different reasons, the most recent being to biopsy a suspect mole. Dr. Seltzer did a great job and I appreciate that he is easy to talk to and will explain everything that's going on. He's a good guy and he laughs at the jokes I make when I'm nervous. A few months ago I started seeing Victoria for facials and I'm kind of obsessed with her. Lol. Not really, but kind of. She just does such a GREAT job! I was at my appt for 90 mins today and I saw the doctor a total of 15 mins or less then has the audacity to say that he's wasted enough time on me after only giving me results that have been ready for a week! And talking to my pcp for about 10 mins then coming back and telling me that my hair loss is all in my head and tells me to "come back when you have proof" yet refused to see all my before and after pictures of my hair loss. What kind of doctor does that? Makes his patient feel crazy and unimportant and tell him you've wasted enough time on him? The clinic was hardly busy and yet he can't be bothered to spend an extra 5 mins reassuring me and looking at my "proof"?! Don't waste your time or money on Dr. William Kivet! read more

Right away, Dr. Seltzer knew it didn't look right, and after a biopsy revealed a basel cell carcinoma, I had him perform the surgery. He has been extremely caring and kind, and takes the time to see me for follow-ups (without additional charge) to make sure I don't have a scar. I have visited Dr. Seltzer's dermatology office twice. SO FAR SO GOOD! He and his staff are extremely helpful. AND most importantly I am seeing positive results after just two visits!!! Dr. Seltzer is a great Doctor. He is friendly and seems to really care about my skin concerns - which means a lot to me since my visits are not covered by my insurance. Both Marci and Sonia are very knowledgeable, informative, and kind. They answered all of my questions and even gave me free samples for products I need but are not covered by my insurance. During my first visit, Marci even went above and beyond to recommend a vegan make-up she uses that has good coverage but is still gentle on my face than the one I was currently using. And I love it! I have been here previously to see Dr. Seltzer and have always left very satisfied. Being that I've grown comfortable with the friendly staff at this office, I decided to come in for a facial. I had never had a facial EVER before so coming in I really didn't know what to expect. The aesthetician Victoria was very sweet and welcoming. She made sure I was comfortable and walked me through everything. Not only did she personalize my treatment, she also taught me a handful of habits I could practice to better my skin. Dr. Seltzer is great! He's very helpful, understanding and cares about your concerns. Camille the laser technician is absolutely fantastic! She's very personable which has helped me feel comfortable each time I'm going through the laser treatment to remove my brown spots (hyper-pigmentation). It's a great procedure and really had helped improve my spots. I'm Asian so my skin is very sensitive and required a few series at a low laser intensity. My spots were I would say medium in darkness and after three series they have lighten up tremendously. She's very knowledgeable and is very careful in performing the procedure. Before coming here i had visited other dermatologist to try and treat my acne. All of them wanted to keep me on antibiotics for years which anyone who isn't even a dr can tell you is not healthy. Dr. Seltzer put me on accutane and i am currently in my 3rd month. Still have 4 more months to go but the results are already amazing! He is a bit pricey if you do not have insurance however he always tries his best to give you a lot of samples. Will definitely recommend to anyone. I had an amazing experience at Pasadena Dermatology. I entered the reception area and I was immediately greeted with a warm and welcoming smile. Melanie at the front desk was very friendly and efficient, she had all my paperwork ready to go for me. Check in was a breeze. Since I had the first appointment of the day I didn't even get a chance to sit down and enjoy any of their magazines that they had out for me. I was walked into an examination room right away and I was welcomed by PA Maria. She was very cheerful and made me feel comfortable being in a doctors office. After meeting my provider I felt like I've known her for a long time. Maria was very thorough which made me feel reassured. She went over the procedure and walked me through every step. Don't let her youthful appearance fool you, she is very knowledgeable, experienced and gifted. I never felt rushed and she made sure that all of my questions were thoroughly answered. It took 6 weeks to land an appointment in this facility. The day of my appointment I checked in and after giving my name the first thing I was told was "Blah, blah our old system...our new system, so we may not be able to see you today." I was instructed to have a seat. Approx 3 minutes later a staff member told me that they were really busy and would not be able to see me that day. I was asked If I'd like to reschedule then or at a later time. I asked if there was any way they could fit me in and I was told "no." I calmly said that a phone call would have been really helpful (I work 15 miles away). The employee, with a blank expression replied with "You weren't in our system." I left. I will not entrust my health to a company that cannot even keep track of its patience and their appointments, or work their own system. read more

Not sure why the bad reviews. I was referred here by my insurance . It took about 3 weeks for me to get an a appointment that fit my schedule. I'm not gonna lie, reading the reviews made me not feel good. I even tried to get another referral due to the poor reviews so i called my insurance and they told me i would have to go see my doctor and go through the processes again. I decided to just stick with Pasadena Dermatology and hoped for the best. Appointment day was here. There was ample parking ( covered and street parking 2hrs free). Although the waiting room area was small, i found an empty seat. I paid my co-pay and began filling out the new patient forms. It took me about 5 mins to fill them out and shortly after was called and was put in one of the rooms. The nurse asked me a few basic questions and minutes after the doctor was in the room. The Doctor was amazing. Without going with any of the details i was very pleased with the process. The whole process took like 45 minutes. Can't believe i was out so fast. Very friendly staff. I visited Pasadena Derm this morning on behalf of following up some acne and skin concerns. I had an appointment at 9:15am and after first time client paperwork I was quickly served. Gabby who helped get the specifics was so friendly and listened to all I had to say about my situation. The PA-C Maria Trinh was also amazing. She helped with advice on my situation and made me feel comfortable to ask anything i felt confused about of was curious about. I will be back because they made me feel satisfied. I am aware they offer skin treatments for acne prone skin so I will definitely be looking into that and returning. read more

I went in for a consultation with Dr. Seltzer in July 2018. I went back for a follow up 2 weeks later. He's knowledgeable, was friendly and answered all my questions quickly, but without making me feel rushed. So as a Dr, I give him 5 stars. His office staff and billing is why I gave only 1 Star and do not recommend coming here. Long story short, they incorrectly billed me and they don't answer their phone when I call to get it corrected. Full details: I asked when I left both appointments if I owed a copay, they said no, so I left. Months later I began receiving a bill in the mail, saying that I was already 60-90 days late on payment. The bill was much higher than it should have been for 2 office visit copays. So I called, but the phone continuously rang without being answered and there was no answering machine. I called at least 5 times over a 2-week period and was never able to reach anyone. I finally called my insurance company directly and asked if the bill was correct, they said it was not and then they tried to call the Dr's office themselves but also were not able to reach anyone. They said they'd send them a letter confirming how much they covered and what the bill should be. Another month goes by before I receive another bill, still showing the incorrect amount. I repeatedly try calling again, but can't reach anyone. Another month passes and I receive a 3rd bill. This time, I was able to reach someone by my 3rd call. They said that I had not reached my deductible with my insurance and that's why it was higher. I let them know I had already spoken with my insurance and that was not the reason. I asked them to send me an itemized bill (so far all of them just had a total amount, but no details). They sent this to me quickly, but I compared the itemized bill with my insurance and saw that they only applied my insurance to one visit, not the other. Overcharging me by over $80. I emailed screenshots of my insurance paperwork proving that my insurance covered what I was being charged for (at their request). I never received a response, and now a few more weeks later, I receive another bill, still not applying the insurance credit. The patient should not have to work this hard to have a billing department correct their mistake. At a minimum, they should be answering their phones and have an answering machine. I strongly believe that customer service is key to any successful company, and unfortunately this office is lacking that. read more

I had adult onset acne start and get progressively worse over the years. After trying a myriad of products, I finally decided enough was enough and sought out Dr. Seltzer. He doesn't take my insurance but it was worth the out of pocket fees. While my acne definitely wasn't one of those horror cases, it was significantly bad and caused scarring. Dr. Seltzer had my skin cleared up in less than a month. Within 3-4 months it was completely gone, and I was off all oral medications. I kept with the topical treatments but now (a year later) only have to use things sparingly as needed. I'll agree with some of the other reviews that I wish Dr. Seltzer spent a bit more time during the consultations and subsequent visits. He comes off a bit rushed which in turn made me feel like I needed to talk quickly and not waste his time, but I understand that he probably hears the same things all day every day. I went to see him to get my skin cleared up, and he did just that. No complaints here. I also appreciated that Dr. Seltzer understood I was coming in as a cash patient and did his best to not gouge me on treatments. He offered me a laser session on a smaller area at a reduced price so that I could see if I would even have positive results. The rest of the office staff is friendly and very efficient-I get the feeling they run a tight ship there. Their esthetician is super friendly and knowledgeable. In my experience the treatments can sometimes run a little late and there's usually a bit of waiting. Despite this, I actually appreciate that they take their time and are attentive, even if it causes my appointment to start or end late. Just make sure you take that into account for your schedule if you're getting any treatments done. read more

The visit was a waste of time. Dr. Kivett was an old doctor who looked over me with his naked eye. No fluorescent bulb to be able to see anything out of the ordinary. Just his little flashlight. He said I was fine. I asked him about a few growths by my eyes and I asked him to remove them, he suggested I stop using my eye cream and start using acne cream to remove them. Really, at 50 years old I have acne. I don't think so. Why not do your job and remove my growths? Lazy, they don't want to pull out the tray and actually do some work. I am so disappointed in this office. Go somewhere else and use your so pay towards that payment at another office. You might actually get some work done!! read more

Best experience at a doctor's office in years. Only waited in the waiting room for about 5 minutes before getting taken to a room. Dr. Seltzer was ready to see me 2 minutes after that. He listened to my concerns on my moles and gave me a thorough look over. Ended up taking off two funny looking moles. Always would rather take moles off for testing then leave them to chance. I hate going to doctors-- but I love going to see Dr. Seltzer! He does right what the other doctors do wrong; he doesn't waste my time or my money. I usually show up to appointments a few minutes early, and I'm always called back to the exam room right when my appointment was scheduled. I'm never back there for longer than necessary; he and the staff are professional, pleasant, and efficient. Dr. Seltzer also never prescribes any medicine I don't need and ensures that I only have to take the minimum necessary to treat my psoriasis (trust me, not all doctors do this). The office always make sure I have enough medicine/topical creams and always give me rebates and discounts without my having to ask if I need more. The office is located in a medical center, with parking available in the lot in back which is accessible off Catalina south of Green. There is a fee to park, but because the doctor is so quick I've never paid more than a dollar or so for parking. In the four months I have been going to see him, my psoriasis has improved greatly. I have suffered from the condition for over 17 years and it feels good to have a doctor I can trust! read more

I really love the Doctor, he has been a tremendous help with my acne issues and I would continue seeing him if not for the office staff. I'm considering accutane, so I wanted to call and ask a consultant with a few concerns I have about it. Unfortunately, I was directed to voicemail 3 times saying to call back during business hours (I called at 11:30am). I called a little later around 3:30pm and finally reached a human, but again, was transferred to a non existent consultant and put to voicemail saying to call back during business hours. On my 5th time they picked up and hung up immediately. In addition, my 2 visits I have paid for what my insurance doesn't cover in office only to get the bill 2-3 weeks later with the balance still there. I have also asked to not get the facial peels during my visits, as my insurance will not cover it, but in the past 3 billing cycles they still have been trying to charge me. I am more than a little frustrated wasting my time calling to get absolutely nowhere, I wouldn't recommend this office unless your insurance will cover specialist visits 100%. Edit: I realize that I managed to not pay twice for the same bill, but the added charge of the procedure I requested to not have done was never removed from my bills. The Doctor's bedside manner was exactly what I'm looking for in a dermatologist since I don't like long winded appointments, but I am feeling put out by the front desk/billing. Edit 2: Phyllis gave me a call to explain why they've been struggling with the billing in the past months, and Dr. Seltzer apologized as well over phone call. I was told they were working on correcting the issues I have above, so I will continue using Dr. Seltzer as my derm as I really do believe he is the best in LA. What can I say? I have been coming to this office for over ten years. The staff is great, especially nurse Camille and Rene, who have been working there long before I started going there. I've never had a bad experience here and I have gone for everything from mild acne to lasers and injectables. I also see Rene on a regular basis, she gives me the most relaxing and effective facials possible. Her hands work their magic when it comes to doing extractions and peels.
