I went in for the 60min deep tissue massage. The staff were friendly at first despite the language barrier. The massage helped a lot with some shoulder pain I've been experiencing. However at the end of the session the staff brought back out my receipt (I had paid with card before the session) to ask for a tip. As I was writing my tip the staff member told me to tip more, and then told me again to tip more (she directly said "Tip $20, no tip $25. Tip $35 yes.") I ended up tipping $35 for a $60 massage. I felt pressured and hadn't had any experience with full body massages before so I thought maybe this was standard? However I talked with my friend who recommended the place right after and they were shocked and upset at what had happened. I've worked in the service industry for a long time and I understand how necessary tipping is with how high cost of living can be. However, in this instance I felt taken advantage of. The background music enhance your relaxing experience. The atmosphere very positive and you can feel the zen vibrations. After more than two and a half years going to this place I have never had a bad experience. You really get your moneys worth. I highly recommended. Edit: I slept on this and have updated my review to 1 star only for the fact that the massage portion was good. Things mentioned below I now realize and feel are unprofessional and dangerous. Paying up front, then attempting to hold my change, guilt into tipping and a few other in person actions will have me never set foot in here again. Upon receiving a lackluster 60 minute massage at another business, that was previously excellent, I searched close by for another affordable location. I found this business and they had immediate availability. I was met by a massage therapist. It was new to pay up front. I was thrown off and it was off-putting initially, however I did. Koko(Coco) provided a wonderful 30 deep tissue session for me. She has good strength and small nimble hands that allowed for the release I was requiring in my shoulder and neck region. A tip was mentioned however that would be avoided if paying up front was a thing. The upfront pay also was the only thing preventing a full 5 stars. I will return and get a much longer massage. This business came up on my search for a massage near me, but I didn't realize until after I went here for a massage that they already have another listing on Yelp: https://yelp.to/ddLbuFxtHrb I wouldn't have made the appointment if I had read the other listing's reviews and ratings, but I assumed this was a new business because there weren't any reviews on this listing. I made an appointment for a 90-minute massage for 7pm. I showed up for my appointment at 7 and they told me I'd have to wait for 15-20 minutes. They made me wait in a massage room, but I asked if I could wait in the lobby and I was told I could NOT wait in the lobby, where there are chairs and magazines. I was finally summoned by my masseuse at 735pm, she moved me to a different massage room and I looked at the clock when the masseuse started at 740pm. The massage ended at 855pm, which totals 75 minutes, NOT the 90 mins I paid for ahead of the actual service. After I left the room, I was basically guilted into tipping and then questioned about the amount. Don't waste your time or money here. Horrible massage, scammy policies. read more

By far THE WORST massage I've had in my entire life. If I could give this place -2 stars I would. Let me quantify and substantiate why this was a horrible massage experience. First of all my appointment was at 4pm. However when i got settled in my room, the woman told me to change rooms and wait 15 minutes. Fine not a big deal, except that she ended up coming in at 4:35 when another client left at 4:30. Strike: 1 - don't tell me to come for a 4pm appointment when YOU KNOW YOU CANT SEE ME UNTIL 4:30. You literally made me wait in the room for over half of the session time! Strike 2: the woman barely apologizes when she enters at 4:35pm and then offers that I get a 30 minute massage with a shower at the end. I ALREADY PAID FOR AN HOUR MASSAGE, so no thank you Strike 3: she leaves the room multiple times in the already severely shortened session. Wtf! Strike 4: she ends the session at 5:15 and again offers me the shower (mind you I've already said no multiple times - especially given at this point I have to leave for another appointment - and btw lets not forget shes ending the session at 40 minutes when I paid for 60) AND THEN HAS THE GALL TO ASK ME IF IM GIVING HER A TIP!! In the end I don't blame this woman - instead something is severely wrong with how this operation is run and the manager needs to make big changes fast or customer complaints will put them out of business. Final note: I'm not even going to mention Strike 5, which is use of inappropriate language that she verbalized during the massage session. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt that it was due to a lack of cultural awareness, but if genders were reversed this most likely would have been a huge issue. And to top it off Cindy answered her cell phone during the massage. She thought I did not notice the missing 20 minutes. My Google search started with"deep tissue massage Pasadena"and I was looking for something the same day. Tried a couple of online booking options and phone calls and all the places with good ratings were booked. Burke Williams has become a bit too expensive for anything other than a special occasion. Then I found this place and their website listed deep tissue as an option. I can only turn my neck about 75% of its normal range at the moment and was hoping to find relief. I called and asked about availability for a deep tissue massage. When I arrived, I once again specified deep tissue.. When I was shown to a room, I said I would like a deep tissue. When the "massage therapist" came in, I once again requested deep tissue. After all that, I did not get anything close to a deep tissue massage. I get it, it was $50 for an hour and pretty much no frills. Ok. Fine. I turned down a $20 upgrade for a table shower, mainly because I wasn't sure what it was and was not here to get my bits and pieces touched in any way. Later, said table shower was offered for free. I again declined. Things were grazed. I did my best to keep the tiny sheet I had been provided over my private parts. I was not always successful in this endeavor. When I flipped on my back I immediately kept things covered with the slightly bigger than a handkerchief "sheet". I just wanted my hour to be over and go on my way. I left more stressed and tense than when I arrived. When paying on the way out (though it seems it's preferred that you pay upon arrival) I asked to add a $10 tip on my card..I figured a 20% tip on an awful massage was more than fair. I was told "No. Leave $20. I gave you a massage. I'm tired". Rather than argue the point that I was not provided anything close to a deep tissue massage, I acquiesced and paid the $20 as I really just wanted to be on my way. After my harrowing and disappointing experience, I came to yelp to look at the reviews. I really wish I had looked before going. That's on me. If I could give this place zero stars I would. First time customer and walked in immediately asked "credit card?" I knew it was not off to a good start at that. I said "sure..." this caught me off guard as doesn't normally happen at a spa... usually you pay after the service is given so you can leave a accurate tip... then I was pointed to the room and yes from past reviews the terrible facial room that no one dares to go into. And then the lady came in a min later. She walked on my back which was nice but not for 20 mins.. Then after she just put oil on my back and rubbed it in. Not massaged... rubbed... I could have had my partner do the same thing for 20 mins.... she did not even touched my neck not once! The knot i had in my upper back she just massaged my bone over and over. I kept hearing "click.. click..." of my bone moving. It was entirely uncomfortable. Not once asked where I would like to concentrate on. But the worst part... I got shorted 10 mins yeah I was annoyed by that, but then the front desk lady within 1 minute of me changing, with my top half off burst into the door and hands me some water.... no knock and then as I am half naked with the door open starts cleaning the room AND texts on her phone... I was done at that point simply wanted to leave. Then this front desk lady had the nerve to say to me, "you going pay?" I turned to her and said, "I already did pay when I came in like you asked" she said, "No, no, tip!" I said "no I already paid." She said, "I gave you one hour massage though" and I said, "yeah but it wasn't that good". She didn't even look at me and walked away. Pasadena day spa is a good place to go to get you sore muscles massage. That place is clean the staff is friendly like( Jennifer). They have trouble speaking English that you can use your phone for Chinese Mandarin translator. And you should be able to sleep during a massage. I've been going there for quite a while and Jennifer had treat me professionally and she can do hard massages touch and soft touch. she use hot oil, hot stone and she Walk on your back. For an hour all they did was rub my back and they called that a "massage" then while me and my boyfriend were leaving they demanded not asked but demanded a $20 tip for each for absolutely nothing they did nothing at all and they demanded $20 and would not let us out the door without giving them a tip which we would've regardless but just a demand was ridiculous made us feel very uncomfortable and quite frankly not really a great environment to be in don't go here save your money and go somewhere else. Please do not go here. I went in to get a massage. When I got there, I paid right away, and I didn't think much of it. Then, I was brought back to the room. The women didn't talk to me at all about a full body massage. The only thing she asked has lighter, medium, or hard which I assumed referred tot he pressure, so I said medium. She didn't say anything to me about where my pain was. We didn't talk much at all. I introduced myself, and she said her name was Angela. She left, and I got undressed and got under the sheet and the massage started. As a previous person said, she rubbed oil on me, but she did not massage. Then, when she went to massage my legs, the women moved my underwear half way down my butt without saying anything to me. I lifted my underwear back and said, "No, thank you." Then, she tucked the sheet into my underwear as she massaged each leg,. Again, she didn't warn me about anything. As she was massaging my legs, she massaged my inner thigh and got incredibly close to the point where my legs meet and made me feel completely uncomfortable. Again, she did not warn or say anything to me about this being a full body massage or anything about where it was okay to touch or warn me before she did begin massaging me. I didn't know what to do at this point, so I just stayed quiet. She moved my legs a part to massage each leg, and I would bring them closer together, but she didn't let me know she would do any of this before she did it. She didn't say anything the whole time. She just continued to rub me with oil. As the massage continued, she was massaging my feet, and the whole time, I could feel her phone vibrating on the table, and she began to text. She spent twenty minutes on my feet while she was also on her phone. After, she asked me if I was feeling good, and I didn't know what to say, so I said, "Yea." I got dressed quickly, and I left. I called my husband and told him about it and how I felt completely uncomfortable now. I mean I'm still feeling completely uncomfortable now. Through the whole massage, she didn't ask or tell me, "Can I move your underwear," or "I'm going to tuck the sheet into your underwear" or "I'm going to move your leg over a bit." There was no communication at all, and I don't know why I didn't get up and leave, but I really should have. I thought about it in the middle of the massage, but I just didn't. Needless to say, I will not be getting a massage from anywhere again. Please do not go here, and, if you do, insist on talking out everything before the masseuse begins. read more

I do not understand the torture chamber review. I have been coming to this spa for massage for more than 2 years. I have been serviced by Nana, Lilly, Wendy, Linda, and Jennifer. Each masseuse has been top notch. This is a legitimate massage spa. Nothing untoward here. The facility is super clean in its rooms, its restroom, and shower. They speak Chinese only and the owner is always yelling at there workers. And the workers are amateurs and really don't even know hoe to give a massage.
