Last week June 1st I bought Boho Locs from this place and took it to the stylist to have it crocheted in. After a few days in the caribbean I realized the hair was poor quality. I love this nail shop. I've been to nail salon that are pretty and flashy but do horribly nail but this place isn't that. It looks nice and simply on the inside but no matter who you get they all do beautiful nails. When I lived in Arcadia this was my spot to go to. I was never disappointed anytime I went and the movies that they play are actually interesting funny enough. I love their acrylic sets but as far as pedicure goes the only one remark I can say about it is that their white pedicure does not stay white for long. I went in looking for hair extensions for my wedding but knew absolutely nothing about what I was looking for. The woman who was at the register talked to me about the different types of extensions and I went with the clip-ons. She then brought out about 7-8 different types of extensions for me to look at, and we narrowed it down to one. I expected to pay what I did for a set of 100% human hair ($180). The best thing about this place is the adorable sales clerk who is more than friendly and kind. The second best thing about this place are the enormous supply of product they carry. However, the worst thing about this place of business is the owner, Mr. Moon I went in to buy some product and to thoughtfully request an exchange for some earrings I purchased there. I buy all of my hoop earrings there as they are cheap and attractive to wear. I explained to the young clerk who is sweet as pie that one of the hoops did not clip. I asked if a simple exchange was possible. She then went to Mr. Moon who sent her back indicating that the hoops did not close properly. I continued to show her how they were faulty and then asked if I could speak to him personally. Given the fact that there were customers there and I did not want to make a scene I took him to a remote part of the store to explain the dilemma and demonstrate how the earrings were faulty. He became indignant stated he didn't want my business and then in anger proceeded to throw the earrings towards me and at the counter. I am an excellent customer. Last time I checked I don't steal, my face is not on a wanted sign or video stealing wigs. I'm not indignant. I come in monthly to buy product. Even my BF who isnt even Black now comes there to buy product for his hair. I nor anyone else deserves that level of disrespect. Especially if my money l, persona and intentions are good. I come here for convenience, but will happily drive to Crenshaw and deal with other beauty supply companies. Or better yet order from Amazon. I went in today (Sunday) and had amazing help. I'm a white mom of a Black son with 4c hair. I had read the reviews and wanted to make sure that when we went in, we were helped by someone who understood his hair. I have bought all the "stuff" recommended by friends but they do not have 4c hair. The lovely woman that helped us was amazing. I just finished doing my son's hair and he's thrilled. I realized they are all from years ago! My experience here was ELITE!! When you enter, they accommodate you the entire time you are in this beauty supply! They are fantastic people, and they are knowledgeable about current hairstyles and trends. I got terrific advice on the hair for my BoHo braids that wouldn't tangle. They even gave me a discount on the hair because they're good people, lol. I've been to several places, and the cost of supplies here is the cheapest I have ever encountered for the needed products. Let's start with the parking situation; it is difficult to navigate, for sure. If you go to the store in the morning or early afternoon you should be fine as more parking is available behind the store. The selection is limited but they have the most popular products one might be looking for. Management/ownership is atrocious. Clearly, someone needs to do their homework on how to run a successful business in a culturally/economically diverse community. That being said, I have been pleased with the assistance of Margaret, an associate working at the store. I have found her to be pleasant, knowledgeable and a little querky. :-) She is the only reason I frequent this business-certainly not because of the skulking guy wandering around behind patrons or the counter. I do not spend my money at establishments that refuse to provide quality customer service. Thank goodness management had the good sense to hire and retain, Margaret. She deserves a raise! Maybe it's because I'm used to New York beauty supply stores but I can't see myself ever coming here. Everything is overpriced and the brands were ones I've never ever heard of. Where's the outre? Milky Way? Free tress? All they had was some Zury and kanelolan braiding hair and rasta Africa braid. So I guess if you want box braids or Marley twist you'll be ok going here. Overall this place is decent. The selection of products and extensions gives a nice variety. Customer Service: I don't think I have ever encountered the owner of this place, but I do agree customer service is spotty. The first time I went here I was completely turned off by the level of customer service and a very opinionated worker. My most recent experience was much better. There were only a few people in the store and the attendant asked me at least 3 times if she could help me as I passed her in the aisles. I finally asked her help to locate something and she immediately knew where to direct me. The Selection: I normally go on a 4 store shopping spree when I'm in this area (Toto Beauty in Altadena, Two Boys Supply, the store next to it, and this one) This store has the cheapest curlers ($0.89 for a pack of perm rods) and has brands like Lutrasilk that I could not find anywhere else. This store also carries a wide variety of ponytail and bun attachments, lots of plastic wigs and some nice accessories. Parking (OMG): Now, the worst part of coming here is the parking. It is a crapshoot to get a spot and I always hold my breath waiting for my car to be hit by a bad parker! Getting in and out of the lot is tight so be careful. The store is located off Lake which is always super busy but also it is in the back of a chicken place which is apparently a local favorite. Best advice, take your time, drive slow and don't take too long in the store! read more

They have great wigs to get you through real life and, if you're an actor, amazing character wigs for sketch comedy, plays, auditions, short films, etc. Staff is very chill but will also hunt down inventory for you on the shelves. They will actually strike up conversations with you. Some of the regulars are like old friends. It's like how going to a mom-and-pop country store used to be. Affordable pricing. They've also added some pricier human wigs. Some stuff is behind the counter so never hesitate to ask. I've never had bad customer service. Taking off half a star because I once bought some stupid weave hair there. I shoulda known it wasn't that great based on the price. At least it was on sale. CAVEAT EMPTOR. Love that they have raw shea butter and Jamacian black castor oil. They also have a lot of earrings. The parking is fine if you know how to back your car out of a driveway. So don't freak out. How come customer service is a lost art? When you buy a product that either A) does not work to your liking or B) appears defective and C) the store has a BIG sign saying "refunds/exchanges only with receipt", why is it so bloody impossible to exchange something? !?!? I bought a braid spray moisturizing product that was too oily and heavy for my hair...yes, I USED IT - three spritz's at the most. So two days later I went back to this place to ask for an exchange. Mind you I had the original receipt, I had paid in cash and it was only missing MAYBE less than a half ounce of product. The first words out of the sales persons mouth was "Oh, you used it! We cannot take it back.. how will we sell it?!?! WHAT?!?!?! Are you kidding me? How was I to determine it would not work for me if I did not USE it, and again ever so briefly? Missy ignored me as I pointed out their big-ass "REFUND" sign so I asked to speak with the owner. Now this being a predominately Black neighborhood these types of stores are mainly owned by non-Black individuals, who in my years of experience, could care less about the neighborhood or it's inhabitants. For the majority of them $$$ is the bottom line. So the female of the three owners chimed in by saying "You used it...how can I sell it if you used it? Mind you she never looked me in the eyes, never addressed me directly, but just looked at the bottle of product!!! Sweetie, LOOK AT YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!! No one is asking you to re-sell it....just exchange it! They all stood firm in their resolve NOT to assist me and left me standing in the front of the store as I asked all the legal questions about not honoring their sign, poor customer service, etc. Ok, so it's not the most organized of beauty supply stores; so they have a sign on the front door "no sunglasses, no hat, no hoodie", but I USED to like going there to find my "hard-to-find" hair-care products for my African-American hair. What a shame...but it looks like SALLY'S will be my store of choice. Once I had to return some goopy hair pudding stuff to SALLY'S - and I had clearly used it - and they happily refunded/exchanged the product for me without ANY DRAMA WHATSOEVER!!!
