Overall, a very negative experience.
I went to Parr Lumber in search of cedar decking and a desire to support a local company as opposed to a large box store chain. I ordered pressure treated wood for beams and joists and 20 ft lengths of cedar for the decking. It was delivered and immediately upon inspecting the wood, I noticed a lot of the cedar was in terrible condition ranging from splits and cracks between 6 inches to a foot to some of the wood being crushed in areas and one board even having pencil marks and a cit in it.
I called immediately and let them know what I was seeing and told them I would reach out after the weekend. The only semi positive part of my experience was the customer service in that they agreed I had been sent some poor quality limber and thought it, might be someone's return.
Of the cedar boards, I was delivered, I sent back more than a third of the wood and ever kept some of it that I should have sent back to try not to be overly picky. They picked up the wood I had put on the side and delivered a new batch of the 20 ft cedar boards plus a few extra. I noticed on the paper work that it said to inspect the wood as well to make sure the lumber was in good shape.
Well, unfortunately that wasn't read apparently. Just walking up to the wood, I could see a good portion of the wood had cracks in it.
Now I know that wood is not a perfect product and each piece is different. But that said, we purchased a load of lumber that was just shy of $1,900. And now I have had to readjust the size of my project to accommodate the lumber I have to work with. So much of the wood is cracked and feet will need to be cut off to make the ends work and will likely have to cut many of them in order to salvage them loosing the continuous look of 20 foot boards. Feet that I paid a premium on due to the length of the boards.
My experience at Parr Lumber has proven to be a waste of time and money. As I work with the wood, I realize I should have just returned it all for a refund and it just blows my mind that such little care was put into inspecting the product they deliver. If you go to Parr, you will need to pick the boards yourself. If you don't they will deliver you garbage.
In the end, I wish I had just gone with shorter boards at a chain box store since the price would have been roughly the same and I would have been more satisfied with the end result. So much for going local. read more
