I would give no star if possible. The thin lady with pony tail is the absolute rudest and nastiest person I have ever met. I went to the back and stood at the counter waiting for her to acknowledgee as I did not want to interrupt her while she was working on the computer. She became very nasty when she realized I was standing there and did not get her attention. How was I to know that your peripheral vision was non existent. I explained that I was trying not to be rude and interrupt her. She then continue huffing and puffing and mumbling on and on. Note to the owner: this employee is miserable at this job and taking it out on your customers for no reason. Please replace her if your value your customers and your business. SUMMARY: As they say in management "Everything flows from the top". I'm pretty sure the lady there is either the manager or the owner, but whatever the case may be, I hope she finds peace with whatever is bothering her and I sincerely mean it. BACKGROUND: My wife is a Bayside native and she left Bayside to be with me in CA and now in TX. We finally got around to visiting her mom since COVID hit and her home needed some maintenance type repairs. This store is the closest. SERVICE: As other people here have complained, the lady manager/owner(?) is just not nice. We visited on two occasions within the last 3 days. Both times we heard her berating her staff about where things were placed, why they're not looking in the manual, and the like. I would never ever talk like that to any one of my coworkers or of lower job position ESPECIALLY in front of customers. Accordingly, the staff looks beaten down and are in no hurry to do it right or in a timely manner. Why should they if they get chastised and berated in front of customers by their superior? After the first time a few days ago, they didn't have what we needed so we took a walk down to Bell Home & Hardware on 47-28 Bell Blvd. It was a nice day so we enjoyed the walk and were talking with each other saying (about Parker) "WTH, did we do something to piss her off or something?" When we got to Bell Hardware, in stark contrast the Asian lady employee there...wow, night and day difference. Once we walked in, she asked us what we needed and she walked us directly to what we needed, gave us great advice (including NOT buying one particular kit), and walking us again to something else we needed. Next time we'll walk the few extra blocks. And then today, we were meeting my wife's former boss and since the Parker hardware store was only a few stores down and we only needed some small things, we dropped by again and rolled the dice. Same treatment, same berating of staff. We got run up after a lengthy delay, no thank you, just an unhappy face, and handed me my receipt and change. RETURN VISIT? No. Definitely not. I mean, really, my patronage won't make much of a difference to her since we're only here for a week. But truly, I think the lady manager needs to deal with whatever it is because no one should be treated the way we saw her treat her employees. read more

This hardware store is a complete waste of time with the worst attitude to go along with the terrible service. I went into the store to make 4 copies of keys and when I went towards the back of the store like the sign in the front tells you to, i was met by a rude woman (who said she is the owner) because i wasn't standing at the side window. She then makes me two keys that doesn't even fit in the hole and the other 2 not working. 4 out of 4 non-working keys, nice work. During times when mom and pop businesses are constantly going out of business, this business owner feels their entitlement is more important than customer satisfaction, treatment, and experience. Easily the most reliable source for hardware and housewares in bayside. I've been shopping here for years. They have nearly anything I need and if they didn't have it they'll gladly order it for you. Prices are reasonable and often cheaper than big conglomerates. I read a bunch of reviews complaining about people not getting the attention they wanted or not getting it fast enough. It's a small business with only a few employees! If there are 5 people in the store at once, the 3 employees can not attend to everyone at once. People need to learn patience and gratitude toward places like this. Local people working to serve the neighborhood they love. read more

If i could this place 0 stars i would. The women who owns the place is NASTY. She was so rude to me, did not even acknowledge me as I was patiently waiting for her to be done typing. She called for someone to make the key copies that i was standing there for. I wish i would of read all of the previous reviews because i would of never gone in there. First, I don't normally write reviews unless the service is out of the ordinary, very good or bad! The women, not sure if she's the owner went out of her way to find me the exact door bell transformer to match my old one and it worked perfectly! She checked her inventory on the computer, said they were back ordered but she may have one and looked in numerous places until she found it! Walked in, we were not greeted. Kindly asked if we could pay for one simple cut on a piece of plywood as we had previously done there. One man's response: "I don't know I'm new here." Second man, manning the desk walks around the counter, looks at the wood, hands it back and walks back to sit down. He waves his hand as if we were bothering him and responds: "No. No support." He literally did not utter one other word or explanation. When I said "I don't understand why not" (as I'm looking at the table saw in the back) he SHRUGGED his shoulders and said no. Trying to support neighborhood stores, I have been coming to Parker Hardware for years. But my recent experience there means I will never go back again. When I work on plumbing, I usually would buy a few extras I might need to save a trip back to the store. Before I purchased all the items there, I asked if I could return, and was told cash for cash and credit card purchase for credit back to the card. I used all items except one. When I went back with my cash receipt, the lady at the front came up with a story that they just changed computer system over the weekend and could not accept returns purchased before the system change. Again, I have a cash receipt and it would be a cash refund. How difficult would that be to process a return? Besides, before my purchase, why didn't you say refunds would be accepted UNLESS THERE WAS A COMPUTER SYSTEM CHANGE? read more

Parker's has a large selection, but somehow every once in a while there's something very basic I need that they're missing. For example, I just really wanted a simple toolbox, but the only one I saw was twice the size of what I was looking for and was up on the top shelf near the ceiling, facing backwards. The staff is very friendly and helpful and their inventory ranges from hardware to kitchenware to pest control to cleaning supplies to bulk chain to power tools to painting equipment (though if they're missing something you can go to the paint store next door) to plastic storage to...well, you get the picture. read more

Weird place. Walk in and there is person at the register, yet I am not even acknowledged. I walk down the middle aisle to the back and there is a man at the back desk...again I am not even acknowledged. I then look around for the items that I needed with no assistance, but I cannot find them. I go up to the front register to ask for help and that person is gone. I wait for a few minutes and no one is around. I walk out never to come back again. Do you want to sell merchandise to your customers? This place is like Home Depot bc you get no service, but with the higher prices of a local hardware store...that's a bad combination for a small business. read more

I love having this neighborhood spot, it beats going to Home Depot any day. They usually always have what I need in store, and if I ask for something they do not have the man in the back is always willing to order it. They get me in and out and always understand my project needs. The staff is bilingual, friendly, knowledgeable and that means HELPFUL. If I could give zero stars, I would. They are rude, discourteous, and completely incompetent. The first time I went in, I had 15 keys made and 10 of them didn't work. I brought them back and got a whole lecture about it before finally they redid the keys. I went back to give them a second chance and purchased a few lightbulbs, although they were not the correct ones I thought I would try them, but they didn't work on my lamp. So I returned them and they said they would order the correct ones for me but never got back to me. They gave me a store credit and when I went in after several months of not hearing from them, I purchased some thing else and they told me the store credit was expired after 30 days. I told them I was never informed of this and I was never called about the bulbs and they didn't care, pointed the finger at a tiny size line which says 30 day use, which again, I was never told about and told not to worry, I can use it when the bulbs come in. I'm not someone who writes reviews negatively ever, but I needed to let the public know that it is a very unprofessional place and they should spend their money elsewhere. Waited 30 minutes to have a key made while they looked for a blank that would work. Got to the house and found that key didn't work. I had to drive back and show them ID and credit card just to get a $3 refund. Not even an apology. read more

I had a very hostile and unprofessional experience here last week. I had to return/exchange an item that I had purchased here and received verbal harassment and hostility. The item was recommended by an employee here, and I followed that advice instead of getting the item I had originally planned on getting. They not only refused to allow me to return it, but also did not present any other options and did not address the home maintenance concern that I originally came in for. Instead, the employee (a manager? store owner? he didn't identify himself) yelled at me the entire time and did not stop to listen to what I was saying. I stayed calm throughout the entire interaction but made it clear that they had lost any future business with them. I don't feel that I have huge expectations for customer service. I do expect a basic level of friendliness, knowledge, and professional demeanor for all business interactions. Perhaps my expectations are too lofty, but I do expect that a smaller independent store like this one to provide somewhat more friendlier and more knowledgable service than similar big box stores (eg Home Depot, Lowes). Somehow, Parker not only did NOT deliver this but also took it a step further with a show of hostility and verbal abuse. Very disappointed. read more

Barely intelligible on the phone. First he offhandedly assures me he has what I'm seeking, but them admits he doesn't know what Loctite is, or what it does. Then multiple holds while he looks for it. More holds to find out how much a tube costs. Finally, after nearly 8 minutes on and off the hold, turns out they DON'T have it. Mind blowing that they can still afford what is surely a hefty rent, and remain in business. read more

Ah, the local hardware store. I somehow always manage to find whatever I need here, even things that I can't manage to find in the "superstores" like home depot and lowes. The staff is friendly and helpful, and always seems to know exactly what I need before I even do. The prices are also reasonable. The only issue I have with Parker Hardware is their hours. I understand what it's like to want to close up shop and go home for the day, but 6:00pm is way to early to close up in a busy area like the Bell Blvd area. read more

Went here once, will NEVER go again. Walked in, seen a guy stocking shelves. Walked up to the counter and waited as I was there to get keys copied. Two minutes later, nothing. Look back at the guy and then he begrudgingly asks "need help?" I tell him I need to get keys copied. and then he points me to the counter in the back. Really think I could've stood there 20 minutes before he acknowledged me if I didn't like peek back at him. Get to the back, guy is at the counter, I mention I want to get three keys copied and find out price of a 4th (Car key with chip). He's helping someone already (copying keys) and doesn't say a word back. Fair enough, he's already busy. I check on my car and walk back in. There are now 4 more customers in there. I start walking to the back when I hear a new customer tell the same guy who was stocking the shelves that he wants to copy his keys as well. The worker says "no problem I'll help you" and walks with him to the back where he proceeds to start copying it!!! The guy who was originally copying keys is helping the same customer in an aisle this time. Then the third guy (who, when I first got there, was on the computer right behind the second counter ) was now checking something out in one of the aisles with a different customer. But I made eye contact with all three, looked at my car real quick ( Two minutes max) and then I was basically going to be the last one assisted. I just couldn't believe how hard it was to get attention and then how impossible it was to get help. Hey, maybe if you're the 5th customer to walk in, service might be different. But I'll tell you, being the 2nd out of 2 or even 2nd out of 6, their service SUCKS. read more

I like supporting local business whenever I can. Parkers usually has what I'm looking for, and when I have asked for help they've always offered me friendly service. All the keys I have had made there work properly, unlike at Home Depot which usually don't work properly. read more
