They re-wired it and they replaced the socket where the light bulb gets inserted, and now it is as good as new! The whole process took less than a week, and they only charged me $17 and change. Of course, before I brought my lamp home, I asked the nice gentleman who was working behind the counter to try it out for me, and he cheerfully obliged. When I praised the excellent work, he thanked me, and he informed me that they have been doing this for years.
