Horrible service! They had my snowblower for the entire month of December, thank god it didn't snow. When I called for status they said it would be done in a week. Called back a week later, and got a bunch of excuses of why it wasn't done and no future date of being doing. When I mentioned this is an inconvenience the man started yelling at me. Ended up arguing with some man about respectable business practices and courtesy due customers when they are being inconvenienced. The man could not comprehend the concept of a courtesy call stating the service could not be performed and a sorry for your inconvenience for not having your SNOWBLOWER DURING THE WINTER. Needless to say, I will pick up my broken snowblower and never use this place again. And it's really dirty. read more

I love Barney's Hardware! I've lived in my house, circa 1920, my whole life, and I'm a senior citizen now. I remember going to Barney's with my father when I was a kid. Their knowledge of their stock and possible solutions for "this old house" problems is amazing. While my husband and I were fixing up our home literally from the foundation to the roof and everything in between, they were incredibly helpful - a good source of advice, solutions and parts. How I hated it when we had to resort to Home Depot when something sprung a leak at night or on a Sunday, and Barney's wasn't open! Advice and help at Home Depot? Good luck with that! Even looking around in the front of the store is fun. You never know what you'll find - cast iron pans, meat grinders, canning supplies, unusual seeds - and much more. An absolute wonderful neighborhood gem. Not sure how long this place has been around but I'm sure it's longer than I've been walking the earth. Before you even enter the store, there is an entire fleet of motorized equipment available for rental and sale. Snowblowers, lawnmowers, leaf blower's, chainsaws you get the idea. Once you're in the store, it can be a bit overwhelming as the store is packed to the gills with inventory.While it may not seem organized, there is definitely a system in place as every time I have been there and asked for something, the person helping me has found it immediately. Incredible selection and great prices, I definitely prefer this place to the hell that is Home Depot. I would definitely recommend calling before you go as if they do not have what you were looking for, they will certainly get it within an acceptable amount of time. This guy is a crook, he pick up my snowblower because it had a gas leak and also changed the oil and charged me $220, the problem was when he brought it back and said it was fixed, but the next day when I put in some gas it was still leaking I called him and he picked it up and brought it back after 3 days and guess what it was still leaking and his defense was that now i should change the carburetor and pay another $230. This guys is not reliable, stay away from that shit hole. I don't recommend it!!!!! read more

Barney's in Elmont truly is like stepping back in time, but in only the best way. It's a huge place just jammed with hardware and household items. When these people help you find something, you know they know what they are talking about-unlike the big places like Home Deopt. I love hardware stores, especially old-time, "mom and pop" hardware stores. I have driven past this hardware store a countless number of times, but today I felt compelled to stop and go in there. It was everything I expected (and hoped) it would be. I felt like I had entered a time warp and suddenly it was 1970. The staff asked me if I needed help, but I declined because I just wanted to browse. I sensed that, in spite of the store being in such a state of disarray toward the back, that if I had asked for any particular obscure item, that someone would know exactly where it was. It turns out, I did find an unusual item I had been looking for and it was in an unlikely spot...but I know how to navigate hardware stores. It was fun going into a REAL hardware store that isn't sterile and pedestrian like the big box stores. read more

I love going to Barney's, the employees are so helpful. This is not your typical chain hardware store. Recently we purchased a snowblower there the day before a big snow storm. Even though they were really busy they assembled the snow blower, put a little bit of gas in it and even took us outside and showed us how to use it. read more

Highly recommend that you weekend warriors go there whenever you are in a jam. The owner, son and staff are a pleasure to deal with and always come to a conclusion with those household or appliance projects that go bad. Thank God for stores like these because you would never get the service in a big box retailer like Home Depot or Lowe's. For example, I went in the other day in a jam looking for an alternative to a part that broke on my electric stove when I was changing the heating element. Jam no more! I LOVE Barney's Hardware Store!!!!! You can find just about anything there . . . from adhesives and abrasives to wire cutters and wrenches you'll find it at Barney's. Old fashioned excellent service - not just a finger pointing you 10 aisles away!!! I've been shopping here for 36 years and will continue to do so. Don and his family do a GREAT job!!!
