Fantastic hardware store, one of the few in the area. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They've got all sorts of random stuff here: Gardening supplies, power tools, various interior/exterior paints, and a really decent lighting section too. I've never had a bad experience here, and in the rare event that they didn't have the specific product I was looking for, they gave me options on where I could find it. Nice work! read more

This place has really gone downhill. They used to provide great service but now they don't even deliver on their promises.

We called Almac over a week ago to schedule a handyman to come and fix a few things in our apartment. We were told they are busy and the soonest we could make an appointment was today. Well, today came and went no handyman ever showed up. We called the store and left four messages asking when they would arrive and never received a response. I get that places are struggling right now, but this is pretty abysmal customer service and I don't recommend this place at all. read more

Overweight middle age white guy w baseball hat seems to be the new owner, I dunno.. But he curses constantly , is rude and unhelpful. The guy who used to work there (Sal?) was great . I went to the store yesterday for a couple of small items. The store had what I wanted and the owner found it for me. Fine. But none of the employees were wearing masks and seemed to be paying no attention to social distancing guidelines. When I called the owner later about my concern about no masks and no social distancing his response was that there were different opinions about masks. That is so definitely not true. ALL the medical experts say masks are very important. I would not go back to the store under these circumstances. read more

I just moved here from San Francisco and quickly realized that in order to do any serious shopping (ie more than i can carry) I would need to purchase one of those small utility carts. I checked out some of the stores in my immediate neighborhood without success. I decided to take a walk down to Newkirk and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. Not only were the staff extremely helpful but they also had a good selection to choose from. I will definitely go back when I need more "hardware-related" things. read more

It may be a convenient store but for basic tools id suggest .99¢ store! & if you're lucky and you ask the right HELPFUL employee they will help you find the things you need! Otherwise if you have bad luck like me lol you'll end up asking the wrong person for pliers & they will sell you something else! Terrible customer service! Especially from that white man who stands by the entrance counter & wont help you when you ask for help but will send you to someone else & give you a terrible attitude. So unnecessary! I haven't lived in this neighborhood in years, but when it's convenient, I stop by. They have a well-curated selection of household items and are much more fully stocked than one would expect of a hardware store this size. The people who work here are polite and helpful, and the managers are go-to guys if you have any questions about home improvement or hardware issues: they're very knowledgeable and experienced. This store is really well stocked and the service staff are all very friendly and helpful. I am a little bothered by what seem like some very high prices. For example, I paid $5 for a plastic bag mattress cover which literally came off a giant roll, just a giant plastic bag which ripped as soon as I started pulling my mattress down my hallway. But I'd go back. They're nice people and I guess these could just be NY prices. read more

Great local store and a neighborhood institution that did a lot to revitalize Newkirk Plaza. Don't bother looking for what you want, just ask and they'll find it for you, and all the employees are very friendly. If they don't have it, they'll tell you where you can find it in the neighborhood. I once brought a towel bar in to be cut and they did it for free, and I'm hardly a regular. read more

I normally don't write reviews, but considering good customer service is hard to come by, I had to make an exception. The moment I entered the store, I was greeted and offered assistance. A young man by the name of Mark assisted me with my transactions and even helped fix my son's bike. Can't say that I would have received the same level of service at my local Home Depot. Everyone should support their neighborhood businesses and i always go to the Newkirk Plaza Almac first for any home need and what I find is the personalized service where staff will walk you through how to do a self home repair job. I love it ! And if they don't have an item (rarely) the staff will offer places near by where you can purchase it. Now that's smart business and one of the many reasons I say Almac First! read more

I love shopping at this local neighborhood hardware store. I have been shopping here with my parents when I was a child, and continue to shop here as an adult. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Whenever I come in with a question, the staff does whatever it takes to answer my question to the best of their ability. Their paint selection is amazing with many different colors to choose from. There is even a special machine that can match a color from a sample. The prices are affordable and are fair which makes me continue to come back. With great prices and great staff it makes it much easier to find things you need and also find things to do simple do it yourself projects. Anything that is not in the store can easily be ordered for you, there is nothing they don't have! Along with great service in the store, they also provide an incredible handyman service. Everything is done in a professional manner and will keep you happy. I would highly recommend for people to come shop here and to use their handyman service. If you are new to the neighborhood you should definitely stop by and give Almac a try. read more
