This is unfortunately one of those businesses that over the last 8 years just hates that bishop arts is growing and attracting people from other areas. If you come here and aren't a local, they treat you like an un wanted pest and you get garbage service with a side of a ton of resentment. Not worth it. Get with the times and welcome all guests equally. This is probably why your bar is empty with only an angry female bartender that works here with colorful hair at the bar being obnoxiously loud. Best deli in oak cliff! Most of my five star reviews are based off a combination of food, service and appearance. However with Parker Barrows it was five stars based off their sandwiches alone! Great cuts of meat, genius sub pairings and phenomenal sides. Get the Barrow's Gang with two sides of chips. If meat ain't your thang then go with the vegetarian and splurge on coleslaw. In addition to great sandwiches they have an awesome craft beer tap selection and a phenomenal cocktail menu that's sure to meet anyone's taste. The staff is also super friendly and regardless of where you're from you will easily blend in with the locals that pack in. Reasoning for the 1 star.... Went in at 1 am (they close at 2am) with my boyfriend expecting to get a drink or two and ending up leaving a minute later. As we walked in, the bartender was cleaning as if he was closing and it through my boyfriend off so he asked if they were in fact closing for some reason and the bartender responded "well yeah I actually am right now..." A little New Orleans in the Bishop Arts area of Dallas. This is a cool little corner bar on Bishop Street that has a good beer selection on draft. They also sell a lot of Abita beer and the decor inside which the subway tile makes you think you're in New Orleans not Dallas. We got two old fashioneds reasonably priced at $8/drink. What's really nice is when the weather is good they open up the windows and the counters can be used if you're sitting inside or right outside. They had some live music on Friday night which was a nice surprise as well. I would recommend coming here for a before or after dinner drink. I've seen it very busy during the day time when Bishop Arts has one of its many neighborhood events, but you can usually find a spot at the bar to sit at if you only have a couple people in your party. read more

Was here last month for the first time. I went with a friend to check out their grub bub. At first their band was performing outside, which was doable for conversation and a happy vibe. Sandwich ordered. Drinks in hand. Everything was swimming just peachy. Then for some unexplainable reason, the band moved inside, and I couldn't hear my date next to me, less than 1 foot away....MAJOR ugh!! I am okay at lip reading, but I am not an expert. We happily devoured their generous pastrami sandwich with homemade chip fries. Loved every bite. Split it between us cause it was huge. But the lack of silence or heavy loud noise made for a quick retreat out the door. The singer was great. The music was lively. I stopped here on a whim while out on business in the area. The food here was great. Tons of bacon on my fried green tomato sandwich. I was alone and the bartender was unfriendly and closed off. You can see it's just his personality. I don't think this guy should be bartending and stick to whatever he did before. Most boring 30 minutes of my life so I got my sandwich to go. :S By the time I got my other 1/2 of my sandwich home to more pleasant surroundings it was soggy. I feel like even if I tell you how much I was not ready for the sheer awesomeness of this, you'd still struggle to prepare yourself appropriately for what's to come. It would be awesomeness overload! I had the pleasure of attending a Chocolate and Rum Pairing event there. It was great! I had a lot of fun. But the real winner of the night was my Fried Green Tomato Sandwich with a fantastic aioli and sweet tomato jam and thick sliced bacon. The sandwich is so big that getting only a half felt like a reprieve because this sammich ain't for punks. I opted for the coleslaw as my side. The only thing is needed was more salt and pepper, but it was good! Now, let's take it to the atmosphere. This speakeasy has a laid back feel and encourages interactive dining with random strangers. I love this bar. I'm from the Midwest and have lived in LA and New York and spent a lot of time in SF and Austin and this bar is better than most of the bars I've been to in those places. Anyone who knows anything about the Dallas food scene will tell you that while the city is stacked on burgers, tacos, tex-mex, and japanese, there's a bizarre white space where good delis and sandwiches should be. Sure, Uncle Uber's can dish up a great sammie if you can somehow get your gaze off of their burgers, and East Hampton has certainly made their mark on the city, but here and there I'm craving something out of a New York deli. Parker Barrows may well be the chosen one to fill the sandwich void. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? I'm not entirely sure how, but Parker Barrows has secured some of the best real estate in Bishop Arts if not in Dallas. They take advantage of this fully with some hybrid indoor outdoor seating that nicely suits the dual brewhouse sandwich shop business model. Service is fast and friendly, and my sandwich came out in roughly 10 minutes. Just one thing of note here is that Parker Barrows only has one average sized television by my count, so it might not be your ideal spot to catch a game especially with well stocked Lockhart Smokehouse across the street. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I'll admit, when I first saw the $15.00 price tag slapped onto my Texas Pastrami Sandwich I experienced a bit of sticker shock, but all of that and more was alleviated when I saw the size of this sandwich. My picture doesn't do it justice, but this was an absolute behemoth. I know I probably all too often throw around the whole "this meal could really be two meals" phrase, but I mean that here in the most literal sense. Two meals. Two sandwiches, and a side of chips in this case to boot. That being the case, I need to throw an accurate price of $7.50 on what were really two "sandwiches", and $7.00 for a meal is more than reasonable especially with a side. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? So the sandwich selection here at Parker Barrows isn't necessarily huge, but goodness me was this a good option. One question from the get-go was, "what is Texas Pastrami anyway? Is it just pastrami from here in Texas or is there something unique about it?" In this case, it appeared as though Texas Pastrami is... well... Corned Beef. If you don't know the difference, it's that corned beef is soaked in salt water brine and spices before being boiled while pastrami is traditionally cured and soaked before being encrusted in peppercorn and smoked. While I don't know for sure, this tasted as though it was brisket that had been soaked in salt water and spices before maybe being smoked without the peppercorn portion of the equation? I'm curious as to the actual answer. The meat, piled high, was very good, although I'll admit it could have been ever so slightly more moist, as the large quantity got a bit dry at times when you took a bite. The bread was excellent, the chips excellent, and overall this was the perfect option to satisfy a NY Deli craving. I need to return to sample another sandwich to really put Parker Barrows to the test, but for now, Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? So here's what I'm going to do. In the next we'll say two weeks, I'm going to return to Parker Barrows and order a different sandwich. Should that sandwich hold up, Parker Barrows just might claim this fifth star, but for now, the Texas Pastrami fell over so slightly short of securing it on its own here. Time will tell! Went in tonight with a friend and asked for some kind of "fruity" martini. The bartender proceeded to condescendingly lecture me that that was not a "martini." I proceeded to smile and explain that I wanted a vodka drink straight up and mixed with something fruity. He again acted totally bothered by my request and said "so you don't want a martini." I finally told him to call it what he wants. So then my question is maybe he is not smart enough to figure it out and I have to truly break it down and the word "martini" threw him completely off? Or maybe he was just being rude. Yes, I know what a traditional "martini" is (bartended in Vegas through college) but if he wasn't so arrogant maybe he would realize almost any bar in town they offer a variety of "martinis" of which include berries, pineapple, chocolate, etc. Welcome to evolution. Sucks because i am always looking for a great place for drinks in my neighborhood and hate the unnecessary attitude. Update: Have been in several times since I wrote the review. All three times I have had great service. Apparently, the bartender that was there and was so rude is gone now. Great new staff and great to see a familiar face, Patrick, behind the bar there!
