DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!- They keep wasting your time by saying ur order is coming in 10 mins, few minutes. Gosh! Idk what they are upto? No respect for customers. No integrity! So this place is defo a hidden GEM in Journal square(India square). The ambiance very much resembles if you are in a desi dhaba. Their parathas are the BESTTT! I've had some bad luck recently with Indian restaurants in the journal square area. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food here. The lamb samosas are excellent and the best I've had in a long time-- look at the amount of peas in them! The naan was everything I wanted it to be. The mango lassi was delicious as was the daal makhani. The butter chicken was sweeter than I personally like it to be but still good. I would have liked my mains to be a bit spicier but that's on me for not specifying. The interior of the restaurant is snug; its about 3 tables I think so I wouldn't try to bring a very large party here. One of the few restaurants that opened later on a Sunday night. We were surprised how packed it was. (Which is inevitably a good sign, of course). Despite the business, we were able to grab a table pretty quickly and the waitstaff was so attentive and the space was very welcoming and friendly. I got the curry chicken and it was a great choice. I ordered food from this restaurant for the first time from uber eats. I saw an offer from the same restaurant on Grubhub so decided to cancel immediately (within 2 min). I was not careful to check and got charged $47 on a $55 order as cancellation charge. I called uber eats who told me that restaurant will decide whether they can still fulfill my order or not. I called up the restaurant and a lady picked up. I told her I just ordered from uber eats and she got flustered and handed to another guy. The guy asked me about my order and said he doesn't see it. He asked me the same question about my name and order details at least 3 times, pretended to talk to someone and told me he doesn't see my order and I should call back in 5 min. I call back 5 min later, he asked the same questions 2 more time. By this time, I knew he was lying. I offered to come pick up the order, at which point he handed the phone to someone else. That person immediately told me he sees my cancelled order and can't do anything about it. He lied that the restaurant doesn't keep the cancellation charges even though uber eats confirmed it. Visited this place last week for dinner. Really amazed at the taste of food there. ~ I went two days back to back and had parathas and kaali dal both times. The parathas were simply fabulous! They came out pretty quickly, piping hot and well made. The stuffing was just as it should be; fresh, hot and super tasty. There were by far the BEST parathas I have ever had in US :) ~ The parathas are served with a limited amount of yogurt raita. Well, it was not the best raita I ever had but was okay. They charge $2 for each small cup of extra raita which is outrageous! Avoid that completely ~ The Kaali Dal was really amazing. Slow cooked lentils, flavored well and served in a handi, this came with a side of rice. The combination was perfect and dal with the parathas was awesome too. ~ The Indian Chai is the better amongst other chai I have had around. Pretty cheap ($2), given they also charge the same amount for 10 ml raita! ~ The place is really dark and some light would really help! Overall, service was quick, servers pretty friendly. Avoid going on rush day I have heard a good review about their parathas and biryanis. It was dandiya night (29-Sep) and I guess we chose the wrong day to go there. It was overcrowded. We got the table after 30 minutes. This is small eatery with 8-9 table and very congested. The table beside us, got occupied by one big group and they were all noise. It was like we are having dinner together, it was that close. Coming to food, we ordered Tandoori chicken, Hydrogen bomb paratha ( a mixture of chicken and mutton) and 2 mutton biryanis. Tandoori chicken was $10 but it was not an iota greater than chicken we get in the buffet; only fancy part was they serve on a sizzling plate. Disappointed, to say the least. Ordered Samosa, Paneer Tikka, Dal Makhni for a takeout. Samosa: Decent, but definitely not fresh. The filling was ok but the samosa definitely tasted microwaved/reheated. Paneer Tikka: Clearly undercooked. They seemed to have gotten the marination right but the paneer was clearly refrigerated and a bit hard for a paneer tikka to be honest. The veggies along with that seemed to be there just for the sake of it (almost raw). I am assuming that they do not have a tandoor and that they didn't do a good job with heating stuff on the skewer either. Dal Makhni: Probably the worst dal makhni I've ever had. I literally went back in person to return it. I told them it smells burnt/rotten. They said they'd give me a new one, which was nice, but supposedly the 'new' one was just as rotten as the last one. The excuse given by the waiter there (who was polite tbh) was that "it's the puree, and its supposed to taste like this. We have it here everyday". I am from delhi and have had dal makhni all my life, never has it tasted anywhere near that. They genuinely need to change their attitude on how their food tastes. The one thing that I did like was the Kheer, which ironically, i think was complimentary. For a place that prides itself for its north indian/punjabi food, they need to make strides to even come close to justifying it and for starters serve customers at-least something that is fresh. If you're brave enough to walk in to this joint after how it looks on the outside, you either know how good the food is or you don't care how bad the food is. The good news is that the food is awesome. Awesome enough to make you overlook the drab appearance on the outside. The menu is fairly small so you can't really go "wrong" with anything here. As the name suggests, the parathas are great. They are soft and fresh. We tried the gobi paratha and the mutton keema paratha. These came with yogurt and would have been very good just with that. We also got an order of the butter chicken which was absolutely smashing. The portions are larger than you'd expect and it is definitely good value for money. The lassi here deserves a special mention. One of the best I've had this side of the pond. Some things like a $20 minimum per credit card and the awful restrooms are the only reasons this got a 4. Oh how the mighty have fallen. That's how my good friend Dennis M. wanted me to start this review. It was years ago that he discovered Paratha Junction, back when they were located where Curry On currently stands. It had been where he (and later I) first had Indian food. Years ago, we'd come late nights when we had a craving for Indian. Fast forward to yesterday, where we found ourselves craving Indian food late in the night. I thought we take a trip down memory lane and revisit Paratha Junction. Walked into the new place (after accidentally walking into the old place) and noticed it's much smaller. It also lacks the late night chill spot vibe the previous location had. I went with the Atom Bomb and paneer tikka masala. The Atom Bomb was unimpressive, two flavorless parathas sandwiching an ensemble of vegetables and chillies that don't taste well with each other. The tikka masala would be decent if it didn't make you feel like throwing up a half hour after eating it. It's exactly at this point that one of my friends noticing a restaurant grade that reads "conditionally satisfactory". I left my leftovers and Dennis M. left his by some trash outside (after some consideration). I give this place an extra star only because it's open late and cheap. Again, I wish there were half stars! This is usually my go to Indian joint when I have a craving, I've been going here since I was in HS. My go to was always chicken tikka masala or buttered chicken. I remembered it being super creamy and amazing a few years back. Today's experience, the chicken tasted delicious, but the sauce wasn't as creamy, and it was definitely more tomato this time. My SO got the chicken biriyani, he isn't keen on Indian food. But I did have a few bites and it definitely wasn't the best I've had here. The bathroom was a little bit eh as well.
