    Onion Rava Masala Dosa
    Adrian G.

We got the samosas, a paneer dosa and a onion rava masala dosa. The dosa were good. Samosas had good flavor but they were cold. Chutneys are watery and prices are a bit high. Lots of tables and seating in the restaurant which is inside the mall. Service was fine.

This is the best bangalore style dosa.. hands down the best.. all negative reviews are false.. freshly made dosa , idli and other street food are available. Great ambiance and it's always busy .. they recently added bisibele bath and masala puri chaat as well. The cheese and Pav bhaji dosa are phenomenal. Service is excellent very friendly staff , I have seen ppl taking forever to order they are very patient. Food is freshly prepared which is why there is a short wait time. Patience will get you the best food.. P.S Finish with a cup of hot filter coffee (thank me later)

I've been hyped for this place since the coming soon sign months ago but they're finally here! The first time I came I made the mistake of getting it to go because it's so much worse. The dosa will get soft and it's just not good to go. I have to say the paneer masala dosa vs masala dosa is really not that different. They don't really put a lot anyways so just opt for the cheapest option cus you won't really taste it. My second time coming, my experience was much better. The dosa is crisp and delicious. They take card and there's lots of seating. My only complaint is this place is pretty expensive. Its like $16 for a dosa and there's not much stuff inside. The mango lassi is like $7 so I didn't get it but.... it's pretty small too so... lol. I think if this place was cheaper I'd def come back more often.

Ordered idli dipped in sambar. It comes in a plastic container. There is no chutney with it. I have never seen any place serve idli without chutney. The idli were not soft. Sambar was not as warm. I would not recommend this place.

One of the best Dosa's we've had in the United States! It just sucks that it's in a dingy location inside a mall. I wish it was its own standalone restaurant, but that wouldn't stop me from coming back here. We have tried three or four of their Dosa's on this trip, and none of them disappointed. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in town!

One of my all-time favorite spots when the dosa craving hits the fan! They started with a food truck in the Newport, Jersey City region and developed such a dedicated customer base that they promoted their business to a permanent shop on the first floor of the Newport Mall. They specialize in different types of dosas which is a South Indian dish that consist of a savory crispy crepe rolled and stuffed with spiced potato mash. It comes with a cup of sambar (hot spiced lentil soup) and coconut chutney, both of which are great for dipping and eating the crepe. I generally go for their mysore masala dosa, which has a special gunpowder chutney lining inside their dosa that adds a kick of additional flavor. We are also a fan of their uttapams, which are like savory pancakes where the batter consists of onions, chili's and tomatoes. These also come with a cup of sambar and coconut chutney. Another favorite appetizer of ours is their somaso chaat, which is a crushed samosa (fried potato pastry) covered with spiced chickpea gravy, yogurt, tamarind and mint chutneys. It's very tangy and filling! They have a great selection of beverages as well, and our favorites are the buttermilk (savory salted fermented yogurt drink - great for hot summer days) and their filter coffee (specially brewed piping hot sweetened South Indian coffee - great for a freezing winter day). One thing I'd love to see more is a bit more tanginess to their sambar as well as more availability of rasam (another delicious hot tomato/tamarind soup). Their ambiance is neat, and it's always bustling with people due to high popularity. Their service is also prompt and quick. Overall, one of our favorite comfort food spots, and we are so glad to have our own Dosa Spot in Newport!

I got the cheese dosa for a quick and easy bite after a movie. The dosa is nice and crispy, and the accompanying sauces are delicious. All in all it's a surprisingly good spot for Indian food.

Quality of this place has definitely gone down since it opened. Very small portions and taste isn't that good either.

The Dosa sign caught our attention so we had to go in! Unfortunately we were on our way out after hitting the food court, so didn't have an appetite to try any of the food. The chai was halfway decent but looking forward to some dosas on our next visit! There's plenty of seating and half the tables were full while we were there - seems like a popular spot!

i never checked out the food truck before but was excited to try dosa spot when it opened in the mall! i got the masala dosa for takeout. the store seemed very popular and lots of couples and families were sitting inside to eat. for the amount of filling inside the dosa and at nearly $13 after tax, it was pretty sad - i dont know what the prices usually are for dosas but i had higher expectations. there wasn't a lot of potato filling in general. for the little it did have though, it was pretty decent tasting. i also wish there was some explanation of what the sauces were, i don't eat indian cuisine that often and had no idea what they were. dipped the dosa in them and did NOTTT like them at all overall a very sad experience for me, wondering if there are other things that are "must try" items and i just ordered the wrong thing.

This has been our favorite place for South Indian food(they had a food truck before) and now that they have a restaurant in the mall from noon till night, it's literally the best thing to have in the neighborhood. I like the chutney they make and their mysore masala dosa and crispy vada. Their filter coffee is great and also jamoon. The new place is nicely done and their service is good, there are good number of tables to dine in. They have chats on their menu and lot more options. Looking forward to making more trips to the mall to this great South Indian spot.

Forgot to take pics of the amazing food!

After an hour of waiting for our food, the three tables around us who arrived after us already got their food and were nearly done with their meal. We ask about this twice, and each time the owner says all three tables "pre-ordered" their food. I was confused and asked every table if this was true and obviously it was not. Before leaving, we confront the owner about the inconsistencies in his story, but he just double downs on his lie, alleging that we don't understand how a restaurant is run. For some reason, he even started to yell at the busgirl who was trying to get him to apologize? In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. The food was admittedly good, but not good enough for them to have the attitude they had.

However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. All in all, I think this is such a nice upscale Indian dining spot for a night out in the city. Having tried most of the other trending newer spots, i think Indian Accent sits right among the top! I'd highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!

I'm a fan of Indian cuisine, and since this was viewed as being some of the best in the city, I wanted to try it for myself. After some procrastination and failed attempts at securing a table, I was able to book a reservation for the other night - so one of my friends and I headed over for an early dinner. It's not impossible to make a reservation at Semma, but I recommended going for one as soon as they drop at 9am. Even then, you'll likely only get one right at opening or late night - typical of trendy spots in the city. They hold the bar seats for walk-ins, but you need to be there early as there's typically a line that forms prior to opening. Walking in, the space was somewhat narrow as is typical with Manhattan restaurants, but was still somewhat roomy - we didn't feel cramped at all and the restaurant actually opened up to a larger space as you walked more inward. I really liked the decor- it was bright with pops of color and lots of bamboo accents; the woven ceilings added a tasteful touch. The menu contains Southern Indian cuisine, which is a contrast to the more commonly seen Northern cuisine. You won't find any naan or tikka masala here - to be honest I wasn't familiar with the majority of the items on the menu. I found that to be a plus, and appreciated how un-Americanized the dishes seemed to be. The menu was separated into bites, app-sized dishes, and larger format mains - with a few sides as well. Our server explained that dishes were meant to be shared, and recommended an appropriate size based on our party size. We decided to start with one of their bites and two apps: the paniyaram, gunpowder dosa, and mattu iraichi sukka (short rib). The paniyaram was a dumpling stuffed with lentil and paired with a sauce (sauces will be a common theme in this review). The dumplings were good, but not the most flavorful and slightly tough. The gunpowder dosa and short rib were excellent; the latter was tender wit great flavor, and the dosa was one of the best things I've had in a long time. The combination of the pastry with the potato filling and flavorful sauces it came with made for a truly special dish - I can understand why this is one of their signature items. For our mains we ordered the ghee roast lamb chops and the valiya chemmeen moilee (lobster tail) - both of these were great. I'm not the biggest fan of lamb, but the chops were cooked well and the sauce they doused them in was delicious and complex - the rice the dish came with was a good complement, as was the extra sauce they provided mmmm. The lobster tail was delicious - super tender and, again, such a flavorful sauce. Like the lamb, lobster isn't one of my go-tos but this was some of the best lobster I've had. We also ordered a side of parotta which was perfect to dip in all the different sauces. We opted for dessert and went for the passion fruit pudding. I wasn't impressed with this - it seemed too stuffy in comparison to the very honest food we just had; I would opt for a different dessert next time. Service was great - despite the heavy crowds, they controlled traffic well and our server was super friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I had a great experience at Semma. Is it a little overhyped? I think so - but the food is still excellent with complex flavors and a menu filled with items unfamiliar to the typical American palate. I would definitely return for another meal.
