Here's the short review: If you purchase any tile/stone…read morefrom Mexican Tile Company but do not use their installers to complete the job, do not ask them for any advice on finish methods or treatments as they will not stand behind their advice and will blame any negative outcome on you and your installer, even if you use the materials they recommended. I have been a repeat customer of MTC twice now spending over $50k with them and when the finish on a recent project turned out bad after following their advice....it was like the scene from the movie Erin Brockovich with the insurance rep..... "DENY DENY DENY". Here's the long story: I used Mexican Tile and Stone a few years ago to purchase and install a Saltillo tile floor. We were very pleased with the result to such an extent that we had a very large bathroom remodel job to do at a house in Prescott, that we decided to purchase all the tiles from MTC for the entire project. As this project took many weeks to complete, we used a local tile installer (an AZROC registered professional tile installation company) we had worked with previously who was very meticulous in their work instead of having MTC perform that installation (as they charge for worker accommodations for out of town work). The materials came in in the expected time period and our installer proceeded with the installation job which came out beautifully. As our installer had never worked with the raw Saltillo supplied by MTC, both he and I thought it best to talk to the "experts" who sold us the tile and routinely install it. We talked to, Stefano Fortuna to find out what sealers/finishers and process MTC used previously so we could achieve the same finish results. Mr Fortuna informed us those products were no longer available but their install teams were now using "Aqua-Mix" as the base grout release sealer/enhancer and "24/7" as the top finisher. In those conversations (multiple separate between myself and Mr Fortuna and my contractor (not the tile installer) and Mr Fortuna) he never indicated there were many different kinds of Aqua-Mix nor which specific one we should be using and that we would need to purchase is elsewhere but we could purchase the 24/7 from them. I arrived at MTC to pick up the 24/7 and when there, they gave me two printouts from Home Depot for two different kinds of Aqua-Mix. The implication of this to me and my contractor was we could use either version of Aqua-Mix, why else would you be given both sheets. I decided to purchase the more expensive version hoping to achieve superior results. We followed the application instructions for both materials on two uninstalled tiles first to see the outcome before doing the entire floor and the results looked good matching the prior job's appearance. We then proceeded with the entire installed floor. Unfortunately, this is where things went bad. Within a few hours of applying the 24/7, the majority of tiles had developed a milky white appearance. My contractor called and spoke with Mr. Fortuna, who stated he had never heard of this and that he would speak with his installers and get back to us. He did not follow up with us, subsequent communication was at our initiation. In the interim we contacted the company that manufactured the 24/7 and spoke with a tech there who was very helpful. He immediately pulled up the technical data sheet on the Aqua Mix we had used and it stated in the limitations that it was not have any sealants or finishers applied on top of it. We then pulled up the technical data sheet on the other Aqua Mix (of the two sheets give to us by MTC) and it had no such limitations and explicitly indicated it was appropriate for Saltillo tile. So the bottom line is we used the wrong Aqua Mix....why? Because MTC gave us the two sheets implying either could be used and we trusted that without digging into the tech sheets ourselves. When I contacted MTC about this, there response was "The Aqua Mix products referenced in your email were not sold or supplied by MTSC. General product information was provided regarding third-party products available on the market. Providing general information or product literature regarding third-party products does not constitute MTSC specifying or warranting a particular sealing and finishing system." "MTSC did not perform or supervise this work and cannot accept responsibility for the outcome of work performed by an independent installer. Ultimately, responsibility for the application and its outcome rests with the installer who performed it." So basically, they're saying, you can ask them for advice and recommendations, but you can't trust the answers they give you as they will deny any accountability. So much for asking the experts regarding their own products. If you're wanting unique handmade tiles, check out Tabarka Studios. We also have purchased from them without the same grief.

I'm honestly shocked that repeat customers--or any customers--can be treated so poorly…read more We arrived around 1:50 p.m., unaware that this location closes at 2:00 on Saturdays. This was a new location for us, and after parking and figuring out where to go, a male employee outside directed us to the sample rocks. We found what we needed in under five minutes. When we walked into the trailer to pay at approximately 1:58, we were met with an extremely unwelcoming attitude. There were four employees inside, and not one acknowledged us. A blonde woman behind the counter looked up and abruptly said, "We are closed," in a very dismissive manner. ( Sadly, I didn't catch her name but she was blonde and sounded like she's smoked one too many cigarettes ). I completely understand wanting to leave on time, but the delivery was unnecessarily rude. A simple, polite explanation would have gone a long way. We were purchasing five rip rap rocks, not placing a large or time-consuming order. What makes this more frustrating is that the employee outside who directed us never mentioned that they were closing in 10 minutes, which would have allowed us to respect their time. We are repeat customers, but unfortunately this is not the first time the front desk staff has been unhelpful or unfriendly. Customer service matters, and based on our experiences, I would not recommend this business. Honestly, you're better off walking around in the desert to find some free rocks rather than deal with this place. And that's what we did!
