Absolutely serviceable. We stayed in the main building (didn't know whether the adjacent buildings were part of the hotel until I read the reviews, actually). Desk staff was friendly and helpful, had no problem checking us in before check-in time, which was a blessing because my boyfriend was pretty tired from a long drive and hiking. Room felt a little dated, but everything worked, the bed was comfortable and the shower was refreshing. We didn't use the pool or anything else, so I can't comment on that. Also really appreciated the recommendation for the Blue Benn for breakfast. read more

I have stayed at the Paradise Inn, now Vervana several times over the past six or seven years. My most recent stay was in early August and I was very impressed with the renovations that have been done there. I especially appreciated the walk- in shower and the new bathroom fixtures. This was a very nice place to stay. The room was nice and had a cool vibe to it. We liked having the patio with screen door so we could enjoy the nice fresh air. We took some extra time in the morning to walk around and enjoy all the flowers. It was a very relaxing environment. Heads up there is no elevator so be aware of needing to carry your suitcase up stairs. That was the only thing but to be honest it was not a deal breaker at all. We would for sure stay here again if we are in the area. read more

We needed a place to stay for the night with our family of 4 and our mini golden doodle. With our room price we should have gotten a fabulous room but what we walked into was far from it. The biggest thing I could not get past was the horrible dog smell...it was bad! The room was spacious but very out dated (and stinky). One star for size and one star because I am feeling generous. We visit Bennington bi-weekly and have stayed in a few local hotels. I was nervous to stay here after reading mixed reviews. The check in was quick and easy. We were on the second floor in a deluxe room overlooking the parking lot. The common areas were clean. We were thrilled when we entered our room. It was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated. 26 YEAR OLD MATTRESS. What else do I need to say? The entire place was very dated. It was clean and the staff were very nice, but having the world's best staff still doesn't help my back or my sleep when the innersprings in the almost 30 year old mattress are poking at me. They have a few buildings, I apparently got stuck in their "oldest" building and nothing could be done except for me to try another old room across the hall. No one "authorized" at night to speak with about a refund, so rather than taking my money (or some of it) and staying elsewhere.... I had to stay here. I had friends in the first building with what seemed like newer accommodations, so try to book in that area if you must stay here. Door had two deadbolts, one inside the lock and key door handle mechanism and one separate. The separate one didn't line up with the hole and was totally useless. How hard is it to drill a few holes? Even if they did 2 a day it would be done over the course of a summer. Also, wifi is not secured with any kind of password, it's totally open... This may not matter to some people, didn't matter to me, but it's worth mentioning. They apparently started in 1985 and replaced the mattresses 7 years later like they should have.. What's happened since then? Maybe they should stop the "free night when you buy 2 nights" promotion and just replace their mattresses. read more

The most amazing staff and understanding, kind service I've ever received! Im from CT but our car broke down Saturday night and we didn't get a tow back to Bennington until around 3 AM. They had a room affordable and ready for us that night! We stayed two nights and the last day they granted us a (rather late) late checkout with no extra charge as we had to wait several hours after 11am for our car to be fixed Monday afternoon and we had no where to go. Lovely facilities, spotless, in house washer and dryer 1$ per load (which we utilized!), pool, and amazingly beautiful backyards with views of all the mountains. I couldn't imagine a better mountain getaway. This place was so nice it saved our vacation weekend! read more

I was disappointed to return to our room around 12 noon to find it unlocked and lightly propped open with not a staff member in sight. The staff were probably mid-cleaning and probably on a lunch break. But Yikes! So, I would ding the place for security. We were in far building by courts: tired and lumpy mattress, dated --but functional--furniture. Pros: large, nicely kept room, good value for the money. Cons: broken toilet, one of the beds had a dent in the middle which resulted in a lot of tossing and turning and the same bed squeaked loudly every time the person turned. So 2 of us got horrible sleep for the night. And no coffeemaker in the room for the sleep deprived in the morning! I'd give them one more chance. If that visit were similar though, I wouldn't be back. read more

So first you have to know that this place is walkable to the square. The loose cannon coffee shop next door is definitely 5 star! The latte was so delicious! That sums it up to just adequately okay place to stay. The room while spacious has older stained carpeting, but the balcony was lovely and screen door. I appreciated the patio chairs as the weather is so beautiful! I would recommend the second floor overlooking the pool and wooded area vs the parking lot. So what I am trying say nicely is bring a candle or room spray because there is a musty smell in this old place. If you forget go to the Gift Garden shop in the square for a lovely smelling candle. The Dollar General candles won't cut it though they sell matches. The hallway is awfully dark. I can see where they were going for old rustic feel, but instead felt a dash creepy. Michael checked us in and he was very kind and helpful. There is free tea and coffee in the main lobby tucked behind the check-in desk. The WiFi was spotty and unreliable. We were on the second floor so it kinda sucked walking up stairs with all of her royal highnesses matches luggage. The bathroom sink had very little water pressure, but the shower had fantastic water pressure. We had four people but only given three of towel (nod to lil Stevie Brule). It was easy enough to ask Michael at the front desk for one more set of towels (washcloth, hand and bath towel). The mattress and pillows were just adequate, so I suggest bringing your own pillow and blanket. Oddly enough the floor lamp didn't work at all, so we had all three lamps on otherwise it would be pretty dark. I reported it to the front desk upon checking into the room. The cleaning/maintenance gal was busy keeping the place tidy. Everyone who worked here was very friendly. To sum it up the place was mildly charming but perhaps just a classic New England road side inn. read more

We love this place! The hotel encircles a huge secluded oasis of green grass, mature trees, hedges, plants and flowers. We relax by the pool and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature, sip a drink, and plan where we're going to walk to dinner (several blocks to nearby restaurants.) The photos and nice reviews on Yelp regarding this hotel leave us puzzled. During our recent one night stay we were totally disappointed with our experience. Maybe because it was because we arrived 3 hours after check in time that all the decent rooms were taken. We had booked a queen "premier" room and it was anything but! The room was on the first floor on the corner of the building right next to the parking lot so everyone checking in or walking back to their room had to pass by so we had to keep the dark curtains drawn. The screen door was coming loose from the frame and it was difficult to open & close, the rug was stained, one of the bedspreads was stained, when we went to turn on one of the lamps it almost fell apart, the bathroom was from the 1950's & smelled moldy, the mattresses were old & hard with a stiff border & the one actually "squeeked" during the night. Additionally the mini fridge was not cold enough to keep our water cold, the toilet did not flush properly unless the handle was held down for several seconds, and there were no chairs for the little dining table in front of the window. The whole room smelled musty and unpleasant. The best part of this whole thing was the very friendly person at the check in desk. If you plan on staying at this place be sure not to have them pawn off room #113 on you for the same price as a "premium" room. We give this place a minus zero. read more

Gotta say, this place is really good for its price. It's always a risk around here going for hotels that aren't exorbitantly expensive, because you never know quite what you'll get. Paradise is a mid-range hotel and it has excellent value. For just a little over a hundred bucks I landed a very nice, spacious room which had everything I really wanted and more, including even jacuzzi jets in my bathtub. Everything was clean and extremely comfortable. It's also located right in the middle of everything making plenty of great places to eat just a walk away. Staff were very friendly. Recommended for anyone looking for a hotel around the area who doesn't want to burn too deep into their wallet but still wants that "nice hotel" experience. read more

When we got into the room we checked the drawers (I always check) someone left 3 pair of nasty socks and a pair of panties large enough to fit all of us. It's difficult to understand how other reviewers rated this hotel so highly. Upon arrival the front desk staff had an angry attitude, kind of "What do you want now?", which failed to improve over my 3 day stay. Upon entering the building where my room was located, there was an overwhelming smell of mildew throughout the halls and stairwell. Fortunately my room didn't smell as moldy. Every possible cost-cutting measure was in evidence. I was allotted one small plastic drinking glass, and a tiny slip of wrapped soap. The carpeting must have lost its pad a decade ago so that when I walked in the room, the doors on the armoire holding the TV rattled so much I had to prop them open. Positives: the room was large, and quiet, and the village is within walking distance, as is a wonderful little cafe, The Brown Cow..The room was relatively cheap, and I guess I got what I paid for. Had my stay been more than the 3 nights, I'd have packed up in the morning and found another hotel. read more

The Paradise is where I recommend out of towners stay - especially if they do not want to spend a fortune. The grounds and pool area are lovely- and the rooms are large and clean. I suggest a second floor location. It is set back far enough from the road that traffic noise is not an issue. It is also very close to the wonderful Bennington Museum - and a short walk to the heart of downtown. read more

My husband passed away the day before we were supposed to stay at Paradise Inn last month. Someone called on my behalf to cancel the reservation and was told that they could not issue a refund, because it was less than 48 hours before our scheduled stay and the room was booked through a third party. She explained the situation and was then told that they would make an exception and issue the refund directly. They did not. I understand their cancellation policies, but you'd think they'd make an exception and show a little kindness. It really isn't a matter of the money, but rather the principle and shocking lack of empathy. read more

Just what you need. Not too fancy and not too expensive. I didn't get the "updated" rooms, but still nothing to complain about. On the plane, I met a guy that runs businesses in the area and he says they always have their business travelers stay there as long as they get the updated rooms. Every year at Christmas time my son and i come to Bennington to visit family and friends. The 1st time we came I chose Paradise Inn because it was close to those we would be visiting.Since then we have never thought of looking elsewhere. We are always welcomed by a smiling face however late we check in. The front desk is managed 24/7. Our rooms are always clean and beds comfortable and always plenty of hot water for morning showers. Coffee is good and always plenty of it. Unfortunately if we're not in the main building we have to go out, sometimes in acclimate weather, for that early morning cup of java. One couldn't ask for a better price !! Pictures of their garden are beautiful but sadly I have never been there in the summertime. Maybe one day though. Meanwhile don't go away because we'll be back come December. Happy traveler. read more

We were told that if we were not out of the room at 11:00am, our belongings would be removed and put in the hotel lobby. What would prompt such draconian actions? Allow me to explain. We took an early morning drive in the countryside outside Bennington and had an accident. Knowing that our checkout would be delayed, I called the Paradise Inn at 8:30am to explain our problem and request an extension beyond the 11:00am check out time. The front desk clerk told me that an extension would not be permitted. I politely asked if she could make an exception and extend our check out time to noon. Her response was that if we were "not out of the room at 11:00am, our belongings would be removed and put in the hotel lobby." Whoa! I was surprised because this was not the response I anticipated. Other hotels usually allow a little leeway regarding their check out time. It was not as if I asked for an extension to 3:00pm. And I assure you that I asked nicely for this extension; I did not demand it. In my opinion, her response and attitude were far beyond reasonable. Later, when I complained about this inconsiderate treatment to the man who told me that he is the owner of the Paradise Inn, he looked at me with a blank face and did not say a word. He simply looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language and said nothing. My hunch is that he has heard my complaints many times and could care less. In all of our travels, we have never been treated as rudely as by the management at the Paradise Inn. I can confirm the other negative reviews that commented on the inattentive and angry front desk personnel. I am not sure what has caused the management and owners of the Paradise Inn to be so annoyed by so many of their paying guests, but whatever the problem is, the Paradise Inn management's poor attitude and lack of consideration has prompted many of their guests to write these negative reviews. This kind of treatment is not worth paying $130.00 per night room rate. You will notice that I have not complained about the room, because the room was very nice. There is no coffee maker in the room, but if you go to the lobby, you can get a cup of coffee in the morning after 7:00am. No breakfast is available. Certainly there are better and nicer places to stay in Bennington. That is where I recommend you spend your money. read more

Overall not a bad place to stay while on a ski or snowmobile trip. Easy access from downtown Bennington. The rooms were clean and of ample size. Can't beat the price for what you get. They have free coffee in the AM as well. The only negative I noticed was there were some semi-powerful odors (smelled like mildew....think ski lodge) in the stairwell that creeped into the rooms a bit. It wasn't gross, just enough to make you say "whats that smell?". I would stay here again. read more

My husband and I stayed here while visiting relatives and after having stayed at a different hotel in Boston for almost a week (which was pretty bad), we were THRILLED with our experience here. Big, clean, spacious room with a very comfortable bed and a really good sized mini fridge (complete with a small freezer)! Our one night stay at the Paradise inn was just ok. When we arrived we were very tired from a long long drive. Our room was super super hot. The ac was off. It took most of the night to get comfortable. Our bed was a king and was comfortable. We were told on the phone it was a suite with 2 day beds. They were trundle beds and as tired as we were it took a ton of effort to get them set up and they were not comfortable at all. One was very loud when the sleeper turned over. Which was a lot since he was not comfortable. The hall way to our room was hot too and sort of smelled. I felt for the price it was not that nice. read more

I'm not one to complain, infact I'm pretty understanding when it comes to customer service especially working in said industry, but this place is filthy and a joke. Under the bed had trash and food crumbs, the so called "wifi" which was the main reason I stayed didn't exist beyond the check in room. As soon as you walk through the doors entering the hallway to the rooms you have 0 wifi service. The lady at the desk said she couldn't do anything about it when we addressed the issue. No thought in trying to accommodate anything. Also checking out couldn't happen because when we are the only ones trying to check out nobody came to the desk to talk to us which isn't understandable at all because the office they were in, the entire wall is a glass window so they can OBVIOUSLY see us. I would of been more comfortable sleeping outside in the rain where I could have been better accommodated by the squirrels lingering outside. Everything was awful for the $100 we spent . It really killed the moment I spent in Vermont with my boyfriend. Very unfriendly, no wifi service so advertising that is misleading, and poor customer service. I would never recommend or come back here despite the "good" reviews I've read here. read more
