Four Chimneys Inn - Our room the first night

The rooms are perfect for a relaxing getaway, with beautiful rooms that feel like home, but with a…read moreunique charm for each room. I've been here several times, and each room is a different experience. The staff are amazing, the bar is available till 9, and they make great cocktails. The breakfast alone is an experience. I often feel bad for not finishing my plate, due to the portions and the time I take to enjoy it.

We really hit pay dirt when it came to the inns of Vermont this past vacation. Each inn we had…read morechosen throughout Vermont was VERY tastefully appointed, and while our rooms were all quite differently decorated, they were each beautiful, not to mention, CLEAN, no matter where we stayed!! However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. Everything about this place is inviting, friendly, comfortable, quaint and charming.

They have a pretty large area for walking around with a beautiful view of the mountain and changing leaves. The picnic area and gazebo are very peaceful places to read. Harwood Hill seems to be involved with a lot of local artists, so there are neat treasures scattered across the grounds, the main office has a kiosk of local crafts and pieces of art, and they offer an arts package that gets you a discount at a lot of local attractions and stores. I plan to get this package next time I visit. The staff was very friendly and accessible. The rooms were beautifully maintained, and there was a continental breakfast on the weekends with really tasty bagels and a good range of cream cheese options. No complaints!

This was the exception! Hardwood Hills was not only spotless inside, the grounds were spotless, the people who run the place over and beyond customer service, genuinely nice. They care about how your stay is and was. Can I say it again? Spotless!!! Thanks Martha,Jason,Heath,PJ,Meghan & anyone I may have missed. Also the view exceptional!!! Vermont is so beautiful, so thankful we had the perfect place to stay!!

We met Betsy at the front desk when we checked in and she kindly gave us info about our stay in…read moreBennington and where to eat. We checked into a perfectly pointed, simple and clean room that provided a great night's sleep for our weary bodies from traveling over 350 miles that day by car. In peeking out the window later in the day, Betsy was watering all the plants and organizing all the chairs around the pool, making it all look so nice. As it turns out, her family has owned this cute little spot of 20 rooms for almost 50 years, and she does everything from A-Z to keep this little engine running. With severe shortages in the work force around the world, this place has been hit hard just like the rest of us who are in business for ourselves, but there was nothing that told us that she had lacked help. That is because Betsy was filling in all the blanks, making everyone's stay seamless. To go to a place where the owner cares so much so that she in fact, probably is cleaning rooms as well, is rare, so it is a win-win to stay here. You will be treated with kindness and respect, and she will make you feel at home. Betsy also make a great suggestion to dine in town at a new restaurant that just opened called 421 Main. It was a fabulous restaurant, and being from a serious food city like Philadelphia and owning several restaurants of our own in Philly, we had medium expectations - but were blown away by the hospitality of the team that worked there, and by the exceptional food we tried. So if you come to Bennington, remember to not only stay at The Knotty Pine Motel, but eat at 421 Main, one of the best tapas restaurants we have ever eaten in! Bravo Betsy for a home-run dinner recommendation, and for a home-run overnight stay. Cheers, and keep up the great work; we love your dedication and endless energy and commend you on never giving up!

Extremely disappointed in this motel and actually incredibly sad about what it has turned into!!…read moreThis motel used to be our top place to stay in Bennington ever since 2023 when my kids were born and we would come to town to visit my family. But we will never be staying here again! They are clearly under new management and no longer offer the continental breakfast, but just give you a doggy bag essentially of kid sized snacks. We planned on using the pool which is usually the highlight of our stay, but it was cloudy and disgusting! When we asked the staff about the pool, they said it was open. They actually expect people to swim in a cess pool?! (see attached photo) I was just given a blank stare with no explantation about the pool. We wanted to report our concerns upon departure but the office was conveniently closed during check out. The website is also a total scam and mentions amenities that they definitely do not offer, as well as pictures of a totally different hotel. The room smelled musty and last but not least, the rates were astronomical for what little they offer!! I am shocked that more people have not posted any recent bad reviews. This is a totally different motel than what it used to be!!
