I am adding to a previous review from Friday August 2nd I am giving a 3 star review to the owner for refunding our rooms after being forced out at 9pm as a wedding party and being told that night we would not be getting our money back. I hope that the help improves because I would love to give another chance at this motel I do actually believe it would be a nice place to stay and if the help was nicer it would be a pleasurable experience here! My sister and I reserved two rooms through a third-party booking site at around 7:50 am. on the same day we planned to check in at 5:00 pm. In our special requests, we specified that we required accommodations for a trailer we were pulling and two cats. Upon our arrival and after making payment for the rooms, we began to unpack, only to be informed by the front desk clerk that cats were not allowed despite the fact that the third-party website said that they could accommodate pets upon request. This situation was extremely frustrating. The clerk failed to read our request in the booking for over 8 hours and didn't even review it upon our check-in. Although she expressed apologies for the mix-up and mentioned a possibility that we would not receive a refund, then she unfairly shifted the blame to us, insisting it was our fault for not booking directly through their website or calling ahead. This response is unacceptable, as it is their responsibility to ensure their business policies are accurately listed on third-party sites as they must opt into using these services. Moreover, the front desk clerk claimed she didn't have time to review special requests for all the rooms. Given that there are only roughly 20 rooms in this motel and our booking was made over 8 hours prior, it should have been a priority to review and contact us if there were any issues. After we insisted, we were finally able to secure a refund, though she again stated she would need to check if she could indeed issue one. The Knotty Pine Motel exhibited unprofessional behavior, with staff failing to perform their duties and blaming their own negligence on the guests. For these reasons, I can not recommend this motel - their handling of the situation was utterly ridiculous and unprofessional. Edit: The owner's response is pretty telling about their business standards. At no point does she accept responsibility for her lazy employee and continues to shift the blame to everyone and anything else. I work in this industry, these businesses still have to accept the reservations from these third-party sites, meaning her employees disregarded and just blindly accepted our accommodations before again ignoring them when we were in-person checking into the motel. It is markedly apparent that their family business is unable to take feedback or improve upon their services. Their staff is unprofessional, and their owner is complacent with providing horrible services in addition to zero accountability. I recommend the Hampton Inn down the street instead. read more

I rented a one bedroom, two 'bathroom' suite (one potty, with a separate potty and shower ans potty) it was very clean, well maintained, warm and comfortable accommodations. My room included a nice kitchenette with a stove top and microwave. I couldn't be happier with this rental. Great motel. read more

Very Clean. Nice to walk out of your car Into your room again like the old days. Beds were very comfortable. Would stay there again. Unfortunately continental breakfast lacks juice and danish. But that is a small complaint. It's in a good location for stores and restaurants. If you're sightseeing avoid Mondays and Tuesdays in which many sites and museums are closed such as Robert Frost. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. No phones in room anymore since everyone has cell phones. read more

We met Betsy at the front desk when we checked in and she kindly gave us info about our stay in Bennington and where to eat. We checked into a perfectly pointed, simple and clean room that provided a great night's sleep for our weary bodies from traveling over 350 miles that day by car. In peeking out the window later in the day, Betsy was watering all the plants and organizing all the chairs around the pool, making it all look so nice. As it turns out, her family has owned this cute little spot of 20 rooms for almost 50 years, and she does everything from A-Z to keep this little engine running. With severe shortages in the work force around the world, this place has been hit hard just like the rest of us who are in business for ourselves, but there was nothing that told us that she had lacked help. That is because Betsy was filling in all the blanks, making everyone's stay seamless. To go to a place where the owner cares so much so that she in fact, probably is cleaning rooms as well, is rare, so it is a win-win to stay here. You will be treated with kindness and respect, and she will make you feel at home. Betsy also make a great suggestion to dine in town at a new restaurant that just opened called 421 Main. It was a fabulous restaurant, and being from a serious food city like Philadelphia and owning several restaurants of our own in Philly, we had medium expectations - but were blown away by the hospitality of the team that worked there, and by the exceptional food we tried. So if you come to Bennington, remember to not only stay at The Knotty Pine Motel, but eat at 421 Main, one of the best tapas restaurants we have ever eaten in! Bravo Betsy for a home-run dinner recommendation, and for a home-run overnight stay. We had a very enjoyable stay here. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom has been recently renovated. The motel is charming. The staff was extremely helpful in making our last minute reservation. Compared to other local hotels, I feel we received the best value for our money. read more

I was looking for a simple, basic place to stay overnight while I attended an event in the area, and that's what I found. The gentleman who checked me in was very friendly and gave me great recommendations for dinner and a place to have a drink afterward. The room itself was clean and comfortable, and I was surprised to find a refrigerator in it - very nice, since I'd bought some food at the event! There was very little noise from the adjoining rooms or the parking lot. All in all, it was exactly what I needed, and if I'm in the area, I'll stay here again. read more

My wife and two kids just spent a wonderful 4 days at the Knotty Pine. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the pool (which looked like it had just been redone) was great! The Knotty Pine is centrally located and provided the perfect place to stay for us. The owners were friendly and very accommodating; they were attentive and wanted to ensure that our stay was like being at home away from home. The complimentary breakfast was perfect for our needs. Found an amazing two bedroom suite at this spotless, family owned motel. They also have a pool that the kids loved!!! So much to do in this area that we wanted to stay two nights, but the wonderful people running the motel couldn't provide a room for the second night, because they are full. We're not surprised that they are, it's a great spot! read more

This is an older motel. I would use the word rustic. It's been decorated in a rustic style. But it's clean clean clean. It has internet and a little coffee maker. It has a fridge and all of the kinds of things that one would expect. The price is right. We'll definitely stay here again if we travel to this area. read more

I joined yelp so that I could send my first review. Stayed at Knotty Pine Motel to attend two weeks of NEart at Bennington College. On day two, I asked Ed Wood, owner of Knotty Pine Motel to add one more night. At that time, he checked the computer, said 'we can do that' and 'you're all set". Then Ed took off for a family vacation leaving his mom in charge. This evening, came back to my room to find all my things neatly packed up (thank you). However, when asked, I was basically called a liar. Mom said she had called Ed and Ed said he put me 'on a waiting list'. Evidently, I've been on this so called waiting list for the past two weeks..although no one informed me of this waiting list and instead - they rented my room. So who's lying? I think Ed. Even though I had a dripping ceiling, I kinda liked staying at the Knotty Pine- until I was called a liar and kicked out. Not nice, people! read more

One of the cheapest motel for a great price. Staff was very friendly and rooms were nice and very clean. The motel has a swimming pool which is also very clean. We will be definitely coming back soon. I would recommend this place for sure. We had a great stay. read more

We have stayed twice in the last month. Interestingly, we had the same room both times. #18 we found it to be nicely decorated and likely renovated in recent years. Room is clean and smells good. Bathroom is tiny but the full tub/shower is modern and clean. They provide coffee, juice, bagels, cereal, toast, hard boiled eggs and apples in the office each morning if you want a light breakfast. We stayed here at the end of the summer for three nights in a room with a kitchenette. It was such an enjoyable stay, we're returning for a winter stay of two weeks. The room was very clean, there was enough space for everything, and the kitchenette had everything we needed to do some cooking. The morning coffee was the best we've ever had in a hotel and they had protein items with the continental breakfast such as hard boiled eggs and yogurt. We also enjoyed the pool and the proximity to everything. Finally, the price was very reasonable. read more

Overall a pleasant stay. Lots of parking, clean sheets, great water pressure, large room, and nice amenities. 4/5 Stars because the shower curtain had some funky stains on it. You can tell it was washed and the stains were not fresh, but a clean shower curtain would have sealed the deal. Would def stay again. read more

This motel is our South Vermont home. We stayed here so many times - in the winter, and summer, and fall. With our kids and our friends. Probably stayed in most of the rooms :-). The owners are super nice and helpful. The motel is very clean, stocked with all the necessities. Updated over the years to keep it in the decent shape. Some rooms have kitchenettes which make it very convenient for breakfast (continental breakfast is only served in the summer). The outdoor pool is very clean. Best motel ever! read more

Excellent bang for your buck. Clean, homey, friendly, and nice. Swung into town late and we weren't sure where to stay. This place had good ratings so we went and booked it. It was pretty empty and I'm not sure why. Other places were packed and this place looked better than other places. We just got a standard room with two beds but it was actually pretty large and really it was a lot cheaper to stay here than it had been on most of our other stays in Vermont so that was a welcome surprise. I would've chosen to stay here over some of those places if it had been an option (for more reasons than one) so that's telling you things. I guess this place is pet-friendly too! That's pretty handy. There wasn't a weird odor or anything, which is the main concern for an affordable motel that might be older. It didn't look older from the outside, it looked nice. Everything was clean. Our room was bigger than we needed it to be and there was actually a place for someone else to sleep since there was a couch in our room too. This could easily be an excellent choice for a longer stay or a stay with more people. Apparently they had bigger rooms with kitchenettes which would be great. Big fridge in the room, lots of space. The pool was a nice addition but we didn't use it (no time). This place has great reviews because it's affordable and just what you need! I'd easily stay here again, no question. read more
