We really hit pay dirt when it came to the inns of Vermont this past vacation. Each inn we had…read morechosen throughout Vermont was VERY tastefully appointed, and while our rooms were all quite differently decorated, they were each beautiful, not to mention, CLEAN, no matter where we stayed!! However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. Everything about this place is inviting, friendly, comfortable, quaint and charming.

My stay at Bluebird Spa City Motor Lodge in August 2026 was one of the worst hotel stays I have…read moreexperienced. First, the positive--the staff was friendly. They were not always as helpful or forthcoming as I would have preferred, but at least they were friendly. The motel is also within walking distance of at least one museum and park, as well as lots of good-quality restaurants. So that was a plus. Now for the bad: 1. Check-in: Check-in was scheduled for 4 p.m. We got there around 2:45 and were told our room would be available in about 15-20 minutes. We returned around 3:30. It was not ready then, and we were again told it would be ready soon. However, it was not ready until about 4:30. While they were under no obligation to provide early check-in, they should have given us accurate information. In addition, no explanation or apology was given for the delayed check-in. 2. Parking: We were charged for parking without this being disclosed beforehand, and much of the parking was in a lot in another building. As best I could tell, the website was silent on whether parking was provided, so I should have asked, and they should have disclosed the charge up front. When I raised this at the front desk, I basically got a shrug and a "sorry." Also, since one point of a "Motor Lodge" is that you can drive up to your room and park, it seems incongruous that you would (a) have to pay to park and (b) have to park in a garage in another building. 3. Cleaning chemicals: The room really stank of cleaning chemicals. It gave my wife and me headaches and triggered what I think was an asthma attack that lasted over a week. While we could open a window, there were no screens, so this was not a good option, especially when we left the room. It still smelled of cleaning chemicals later that evening when we got back from dinner, although the smell had somewhat dissipated by the following day. (In anticipation of a response that I should have mentioned this to management, I would say that the people I spoke to were not helpful. It didn't seem like they had any spare rooms, since they could not get ours ready on time, and I had no confidence that they would give us a room that didn't have the same issue.) Edit: I stayed at another hotel a few weeks later, without an ill effects, so I don't think I ajm especially sensitive to chemical smells 4. Noise: The roof in the atrium was really loud, as was our room. Someone (I think Staff) told me the reason for the noise in the atrium was that it had a plastic roof and that the noise was caused by the wind. I'm not sure if that was the issue in the room, which sounded like it had a broken refrigerator running. 5. Wi-Fi: The Wi-Fi was horrible. I could connect, but I never got a decent signal, so it was not usable. I tried this on multiple devices, including wiping out the prior connection and starting over. Although some hotels give you a welcome screen where you need to accept their terms and conditions to get the Wi-Fi to work, nothing like this popped up. 6. Room amenities: The place has cheap plastic cups in the washroom. Considering how much they charge, they should use something nicer, such as real glass. The water pressure in the shower was also pretty weak. 7. Coffee: The first morning I stayed there, they had two nearly empty carafes of coffee and no hot coffee. This was about 7 or 7:30 a.m. Attention to detail, folks! They did have a carafe of decaf, but I didn't try that. 8. 4:30 a.m. wake-up: I received a text around 4:30 a.m. welcoming me to the motel. Apparently, this was a system error, but it was annoying, especially given the other issues. 9. No spa and no bluebirds--only kidding about that being an issue.

An absolute perfect location for our recent Fall weekend (and first!) trip to Saratoga, and…read moreunbeatable last minute rates. Cute, clean, and quirky, it's minimal on the trappings, but still manages to be warm and welcoming in all the ways that generally matter to how a place feels. I loved the center covered courtyard in this converted "roadside motor hotel," which felt like a communal living room, and also a perfect place to pull out the laptop and get some work done or just hang out and read, including some of the interesting art books made available in the space. That space is a bonus if it rains... you can hear the rain falling on the interior courtyard! Only thing we didn't do that we should have was to grab a bottle a wine from the very nearby wine store, bring it back to the "living room," and enjoy that rain a little more! Past the free coffees and tea, the place is spartan, but by design, in a very clean, crisp, and intentional way. It still fully pulls off "cozy" in all the ways. It definitely feels "design-y,' but without ANY pretention. Coming and going, were always greeted by every staff member with smiles, genuinely making us feel welcome every time we walked through the door. Free parking might be just an off-season perk, but a great one, and we never had an issue even when our late-ish arrival on a Saturday night meant we had to use the (also free!) parking garage adjacent to the hotel. If it's just one or two of you, don't be put off by the Micro Queen! It still gets the job done, as it's still incredible cozy. The biggest benefit is location, location, location! STEPS away from restaurants, shops, and bars, all right on the "main drag." And even given its location, street-facing rooms are very quiet. Could use some more clothes/towel hooks and a place to put a second suitcase, a slightly warmer LED in the bathroom, and even just a recirculating fan in their as well wouldn't be unwelcome. We would have loved to have access to streaming TV. But these are all minor dings on what was a lovely stay, at this unique property that I'd love to see flourish. It was a great home base, and I didn't want to leave. We'll also now be on the lookout for more properties in the Lark portfolio... when we're not back at the Bluebird!

The BB&B is a gorgeous building in a great location. If you aren't from the area, just know it's an…read moreeasy walk down safe residential streets to get to the heart of the nightlife, yet far enough away to avoid the noise and the chaos. The restaurant next door is marvelous too. I booked a room on the second floor with a balcony and had been looking forward to enjoying a summer evening, and sitting outside in my private little spot with a cool drink. There was a small hiccup with the plan. The building was just recently painted and the door was stuck from the outside. This was a significant disappointment especially after spending time choosing the perfect room for my needs. To be fair, the owner contacted me after my stay and graciously offered to refund a portion of my stay. I appreciated the acknowledgement. But here's the thing you should know about the BB&B. With the exception of breakfast, it's a "contactless" experience. Now while I'm sure that was a marvelous advantage in the COVID years, and for some less social or introverted folks, it felt a little cold and odd for me. This is the reason for the missing star. You get a text for the front door code once your room is ready. Your old-school keys are awaiting you on top of the dresser. If there are any issues, there is a phone number to call. In my case, I called the number, but there wasn't anything the person I reached on the phone could do, especially since they were off site. Breakfast was a bright spot. That is where I met Sarah who took great care of me, live and in person. As opposed to so many hotels that offer a complimentary breakfast, this one was delicious and very civilized. There were menus. There was fresh ripe fruit sliced up and served in a bowl. And I can't tell you how much I appreciated some actual human contact at the B&B. If I wanted to pick some more nits, the room wasn't the cleanest. Maybe it had something to do with dust getting in from the painting project. Bedbugs can happen anywhere, even at the fanciest hotels in the world, so I'm always fastidious about checking beds with a fine tooth comb wherever I stay. Beyond some grime on a pillowcase there was some dried blood on the mattress liner. I'm not super squeamish, and I didn't bring up the issue to management in the moment, since I was focused on the sealed balcony door. That said, I would still absolutely consider returning. I kinda hate most hotels and despite a few unexpected quirks and hiccups, BB&B was a comfortable, convenient, and (mostly) charming place to stay in Saratoga Springs.

The bathroom was redone was very pretty with a round shower and mirror. The room was clean with some weathered furniture (a bit chipped and scuffed), but functional. Coffee in the morning was weak and breakfast left much to be desired, but at least it is offered. The door knob levers on the front of the doors were loose and the doors were not flush to the doorframe so it never felt fully closed. But that is a 4 star review for me. The 3 stars came when I got a follow up charge on my card a day later without warning, and when I called, the owner told me that I had been charged for a missing glass. I told him I did not have the glass and told him where to locate it (in fridge where I left it). He wasn't very nice about it and treated me like I did something wrong. He said he'd call me back and never did. Needless to say, I will not be back. I hope they find that glass.

The hotel was cute, convenient, comfortable, and super clean. Everything about our stay was perfect -- the room was nicely appointed, the bed was comfy, the shower had great water pressure (that's important to me!), the price was reasonable, there were drinks available in the office, and a nice complimentary continental breakfast with waffles was available in the morning until 10am. The room had both a small microwave and a mini-fridge. The best of all was the innkeepers; they were extremely welcoming and they went above and beyond to make our stay an enjoyable one.
