Each inn we had…read morechosen throughout Vermont was VERY tastefully appointed, and while our rooms were all quite differently decorated, they were each beautiful, not to mention, CLEAN, no matter where we stayed!! However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. Everything about this place is inviting, friendly, comfortable, quaint and charming.

In our special requests, we specified that we required accommodations for a trailer we were pulling and two cats. Upon our arrival and after making payment for the rooms, we began to unpack, only to be informed by the front desk clerk that cats were not allowed despite the fact that the third-party website said that they could accommodate pets upon request. This situation was extremely frustrating. The clerk failed to read our request in the booking for over 8 hours and didn't even review it upon our check-in. Although she expressed apologies for the mix-up and mentioned a possibility that we would not receive a refund, then she unfairly shifted the blame to us, insisting it was our fault for not booking directly through their website or calling ahead. This response is unacceptable, as it is their responsibility to ensure their business policies are accurately listed on third-party sites as they must opt into using these services. Moreover, the front desk clerk claimed she didn't have time to review special requests for all the rooms. Given that there are only roughly 20 rooms in this motel and our booking was made over 8 hours prior, it should have been a priority to review and contact us if there were any issues. After we insisted, we were finally able to secure a refund, though she again stated she would need to check if she could indeed issue one. The Knotty Pine Motel exhibited unprofessional behavior, with staff failing to perform their duties and blaming their own negligence on the guests. For these reasons, I can not recommend this motel - their handling of the situation was utterly ridiculous and unprofessional. Edit: The owner's response is pretty telling about their business standards. At no point does she accept responsibility for her lazy employee and continues to shift the blame to everyone and anything else. I work in this industry, these businesses still have to accept the reservations from these third-party sites, meaning her employees disregarded and just blindly accepted our accommodations before again ignoring them when we were in-person checking into the motel. It is markedly apparent that their family business is unable to take feedback or improve upon their services. Their staff is unprofessional, and their owner is complacent with providing horrible services in addition to zero accountability. I recommend the Hampton Inn down the street instead.

The price was very accommodating for a off the beat motel, the parking lot leaves something to be desired as it can't really fit all the rooms worth of cars and is quite hard to maneuver as there's no lines to indicate where to park. But that NOISE MAN is really annoying and makes it hard to sleep if your on the inside downstairs rooms good God every 30 seconds on the dot it's going "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm click" like it's not something u can just fall asleep to even if u are super tired.
