Enchiladas, beans and rice. Not bad.
    Lien K.

I stopped in after getting rained on at McCormick's Creek state park. I was disappointed immediately on seeing a fee would be assessed for using a credit card. However, I credit the restaurant for putting this on their door vs the menu. I could've left before being seated. But I stayed and that was my choice. It was an odd time so it was fairly quiet. The decor is colorful and helped my mood given the drab day. It looks like a fun place to sit around with a margarita. They also don't serve the table chips and salsa. Boo! I ordered enchiladas, they come with either chicken or beef. I asked if I could do 2 chicken 1 beef and got the OK. Portions are good and the food itself was good. Unfortunately, my order was wrong-I got 3 chicken enchiladas, which was annoying but didn't matter on the day because I couldn't eat all 3 and took the last one home for another day. Overall, it was ok but service wasn't especially attentive for how uncrowded it was-I sat with an empty glass for quite a while-their fountain soda was really hittong the spot. I think this might be a better place with others. I'd return for a post-hike margarita to test that. With cash.

    Carnita tacos

I'm still on the hunt for great tacos in the Bloomington/Spencer area, and unfortunately, these tacos weren't it. They tasted just like Viva Mas. I've been craving juicy carnitas tacos on a classic corn tortilla with cilantro and onions, but every place I've tried falls short--the carnitas aren't juicy enough, and the corn tortilla can be overwhelming at times; too much tortilla. That said, the salsa flight was excellent, and I'd definitely come back for that. Next time, though, I'll be skipping the tacos. Everything else was fine. Service was good, and the restaurant itself was quiet but kind of dark.

On the appointed evening, before we could even tell the hostess we had a reservation, she informed us that minors were not allowed and we'd have to leave -- despite the fact that my parents' 13-year-old grandson was with us. I explained we had a reservation. It didn't matter. I explained the occasion. It still didn't matter. We were asked to leave. At no point did she apologize for the inconvenience. At no point did she offer an alternative. When my sister asked if she had any suggestions for another restaurant in this small town, she said she had none. We stood on the sidewalk and regrouped. I sent my family ahead to J. Fords Black Angus, where we ended up having a wonderful meal and outstanding service. I went back into Bar Bosco to let them know how poorly this had gone, and to suggest a simple fix: a note on the reservation page about the age restriction, so this doesn't happen to the next out-of-town family. Her responses, verbatim: "Not my fault." "I don't take care of the website." "Not my job." I asked for the manager. Unavailable, she reported. I asked for his name so I could follow up. She refused. I asked for her name. She refused that too. If a restaurant has a no-minors policy, that's a reasonable choice -- but not disclosing it anywhere during online booking, then handling the fallout with zero accountability and zero willingness to help, is not. This was, hands down, one of the most callous and condescending encounters I've had in a restaurant, and it happened on a night meant to celebrate something joyful for my parents. J. Fords Black Angus in Terre Haute, on the other hand, deserves real praise. Hostess Hope and server Brian went out of their way to make the evening special -- they wished my parents a happy 60th and helped turn a frustrating start into one of the best memories of the whole trip.

The second visit was okay. First, the best parts: the cocktails were delicious and I loved trying a few of the different spirits when our server brought us samples to try. Also, the patio atmosphere was lovely as the weather was perfect for both visits. The bingo was also a lot of fun! Overall, the food was good, but on our second visit the service was incredibly slow. Our server told us that the kitchen was running behind, but our friends were at the table next to us (with a different server) and they ordered when we did and had finished eating before our food even arrived - and I had to go find someone to inquire about it as our server never returned after dropping off drinks. She did apologize and take an item off the bill and hand us a few drink coupons which was appreciated, but the experience had put a damper on our enthusiasm (especially after we told the rest of our party how awesome the place was). Will I go back? Yes, but maybe with tempered expectations.

Without the patio open though, I can see it filling up easily. The atmosphere is fun (board games!) and bright but somewhat industrial with the distillery next door. The staff was friendly and very enthusiastic but just a little overbearing for me. The samples they brought around of two of their spirits (a gin and amaro) were very good and much appreciated. As appealing as the cocktails sounded, I didn't feel like drinking, so I got the Last Call mocktail. I couldn't pick up much 5 spice, but it was still a pleasant and refreshing light drink. I had a sip of my parents' old fashioned and Smokin' in the Girls' Room, and those were both really good - I was really into the lapsang souchong tea-infused rum in the Smokin' in the Girls' Room and would've ordered it for myself if I'd been drinking. To eat, I had a mushroom melt (the veganized version with vegan cheese) with the OMG fries. I really liked the sandwich; I loved the giardiniera and the jus, and you usually can't get that sort of thing in a vegetarian or vegan sandwich, so I was really happy to have it here and thought it was done well. The OMG fries were also really good. I don't like fries if they're plain, but these were heavily seasoned with a delicious spice blend. The vegan version of the fries omits the truffle aioli that they normally come with, but they were plenty flavorful with just ketchup. We shared a Thai tea creme brulee for dessert. I am crazy about Thai tea so I expected to like this, and it was everything I hoped for. The tea flavour was nice and strong, and the tapioca pearls were a nice little enhancement. They do an auto-gratuity of 20% no matter the party size, which I'm not completely opposed to, but I think if you're doing that you at least need to have a note on the menu rather than have the waiter tell you as they're giving you the bill, or better (in my opinion) to just raise the prices by 20% and sell yourself as a no-tipping restaurant. But it wasn't a huge deal in this situation; our waitress was good and we would've left a good tip anyway.

Well Dang! When you are here you certainly do NOT think you are in Terre Haute anymore!…read more Came here after a work event really just to check it out. When I walked in I asked where it was and the security staff told me to go to the 10th floor. You have to walk through the hotel part and go up. Once you get off I promise you, you feel that you are no longer in Terre Haute. I honestly felt like I was in Charlotte, NC. The view is insane looking at the greenery of what makes Indiana so pretty in the summer time (I can't wait to go back during fall to take in the view then too). The music was a total vibe. It was R&B, Chill POP (is that a thing, don't know how else to describe). There is an outdoor patio area where there was a guy playing live music and people sitting on couches relaxing and watching while enjoying a cocktail. I sat at the bar because I was by myself and certainly didn't want to take up an entire couch and leave that for others that may have larger parties. As soon as I sat down my server came to take my order. While I wasn't really planning to eat, once I looked at the menu the Chicken Nachos were calling my name. Even though I am counting calories, I had to order. Man, when they came out they were huge and so so good. You can order the chicken blackened which I did and man it was great. I just sat and enjoyed my very caloric nachos and a cocktail and just really took it in. I don't live in Terre Haute, I live in Indianapolis, but I spend a ton of time in Terre Haute for work. At that moment, I felt proud. I felt proud of Terre Haute for making the investment and proud that they are attempting to change the city by offering things like this. I host client events for work and I am thinking of ways to host something fun here, so I will be back!

WOW! What an unexpected cool space for Terre Haute. And this is absolutely a 5 star Yelp spot by…read moreTerre Haute standards. More "lounge" than "bar" to me, the space is vast. Through the hotel lobby entrance, take a hard right and then another right to the elevator bank, up to the 10th floor. There is plenty of signage to tell you how to find Altitude. A greeter is at the podium to offer a friendly welcome. We are actually not going to have a drink nor something to eat (note that they do offer food in addition to adult beverages). My aging parents and I simply want to walk around and see the space. And what a great space. Navy, white, golds and gray....sofas, bar seating, cream curtains, loads of windows, giant patio. I liked that the greeter was open and welcoming for us to simply walk around...and he was nice to my older parents who were moving slow. Thinking to myself that this place is more dressed up than dressed down, I am quick to remember this is Terre Haute. I think you could get away with a spectrum of clothing. Save the crappy cut offs and flip flops for another place, but I am certain they would not turn you away at the door. But with that, for a dressed up girls night out or a romantic spot in jeans with someone you love, this spot would be excellent. What a view and a what a patio! Now it is June and at 6:45pm as we are outside on this patio to take in the view, there is little shade, it is a bit warm and the sun is glaring to a person like myself that shuns the sun. But what a great space. Very open and spacious, some hightop tables, but mostly very tasteful outdoor sofas and chairs, with fire-pit coffee tables. Heat lamps are about and I know this space will be a hit at the perfect shoulder months of cool Spring nights and crisp Fall evenings. Full views south, West and North of the Vigo county area. This space in general is definitely a step up in the coolness factor for places to get a drink in this town. I give Altitude a 5 on Yelp and I am yet to have a drink. I'm optimistic that the bone dry Tito's martini with olives I will order on my next visit will match the ambiance we took in. And if they have blue cheese stuffed olives to boot, my cup will runnith over. I will come back.
