Great food When I am in town I love this place. Also they have some gluten free options too. The inside is interesting. It kind of seems like it is trying to hard mixing styles but who cares. Bring on the neon and super random Grateful Dead references with wild paint. The food is good here. read more

I was in Bloomington for work, and asked a local where would be a good place to take a group, and they recommended la una cantina. I'm glad I decided to host my alumni dinner here! The service was great! Especially for a group of our size. I enjoyed two house margaritas. We had a delicious trio of dips! Salsa, guac and queso. For my main course I had tacos, the la piscado, el pastor and pork chochinita. All of the tacos were flavorful and delicious! I'd certainly visit again given the chance! read more

Dude this place sucks actual ass hole. I am 22 yrs olds I got kicked out 3 times, the first time being I ordered 2 pitchers and they gave me one. The bartender just told security to kick me out even though I got one. Second time I ordered 3 beers then the same bartender kicked me out for no reason at all. Third time I gave them my real id, and the id checker told me it didn't work. This place sucks mad fucking dick, I howl they all get deported. I am also 50% Latin American. Do not cancel me. This place sucks would never recommend ever again. read more

The food was overpriced/overcooked. The service was awful. I would not recommend this place. I did not get a welcoming atmosphere there. As an African American woman I felt to much tension. I wanted to enjoy a night out however it turned out to be a nightmare. African Americans do not patronize this place!! read more

La Una Cantina has a modern Mexican ambiance with beautiful lighting, decorative walls, and bumping music. There is plenty of seating from smaller booths, tables, high tops, and larger group areas. There is (paid) street parking available nearby. Beware that around 9PM on Fridays a long line forms outside. Our overall dining experience was positive! The waiter we had was very kind and willing to offer his recommendations. We started off with the Dip Trio. The Queso was delicious, Guacamole could have used a bit more salt, and Salsa was okay (my husband enjoyed more than me - it tasted too much like tomatoes than salsa). For our main course my husband got 4 tacos. He absolutely LOVED the Carnitas. It had amazing flavor and the perfect amount of spice. I got the new Birria Tacos and they were delicious. It came with plenty of meat and consomé to dip them in. read more

You must try this. If you're looking for a different experience other than traditional Mexican where everything is just fried and coded in liquid cheese, this is your place. I got the street taco sampler platter. There were three different types and they used really cool ingredients like pineapple and cilantro. It was kind of an exciting meal. Street Taco Platter Choice of three tacos: Al Pastor, Carne Asada and/or Carnitas Served with arroz verde or frijoles negros (gf) The rice was also totally different. It was not your traditional red fried rice. It is callled arrow verde...don't know what it means but it was delicious. It seem to be some type of natural green rice with different seasonings than tradition Mexican rice. My dad got the sweet potato enchilada and swears it is the best food he has ever had at a Mexican restaurant. We didn't get to sample the tequila because it was mid afternoon but there is a huge variety for you to try which could be fun instead of a winery if you like to try new things. I wish I could give a gold star two places that are so outside of the norm. This would get a gold star. read more

I've been a couple of times for lunch and really like the beef and chicken enchiladas. A lot of Mexican restaurants have large portions but their food is not great. The portions here are not huge but I feel their food quality is higher. It was not very busy the times I've went for lunch and service was great and quick. I love taco Tuesday's here. They have $2 specials on their pork, beef, fish, chicken mole, and chicken tinga tacos. In my opinion, the beef and chicken tinga is pretty plain in terms of toppings so I like the others more. Their tacos are a generous size so 2-3 are a decent amount for an entree. There is a parking garage nearby and it is only $0.50 an hour to park there. Great spot for Mexican food! read more

We had a party of 13 for a birthday. Although our waitress was amazing and nice I think she needed some help. The place was packed for good reasons the food is absolutely amazing. With that being said she is only one person and had so many tables to wait on. We ran out of water and no one else would help her. We had to go ask for water. The restaurant was decorated very well. The bathroom could have been cleaned better. There was no tissue in the bathroom I had to go and ask for tissue. Now for the food, it was superb. We started off with the trio queso, guacamole and salsa. Omg the guacamole was to die for. It was spicy but so so good and you get portions 10/10 recommend getting the trio. I ordered a torta. I love a good torta and let's just say it didn't disappoint me. I also got a mango pineapple margarita and my friend got a strawberry banana they were both amazing!!! We did receive our food in a timely manner. No one had any complaints about their food. It's a family friendly restaurant until about 10. After 10 it turned into a club. You have to be 21 to enter. read more

Great food, great atmosphere! Their queso is hands down one of my favorites in the area. I always order the cheese quesadilla and have never been disappointed with the flavor or quantity! I also got the strawberry margarita which was delicious as well! My only complaint is they're extremely slow. We did go on cinco de Mayo this time which I understand they were extremely busy, but this lack of speediness happens every time. It took probably 20 minutes for our waiter to even address us. After that, we ordered our drinks and then waited another 20-25 minutes to have him ask for our food order. At that point, I asked a question and he answered and then mumbled something and walked away. Then we waited probably another 10-15 minutes for him to come back. I was going to order another drink but we didn't see him until like a half hour after getting our food. All in all, the food and drinks are good but make sure you have enough time & be prepared to wait for awhile after being seated. read more

$2 Taco Tuesdays is where it's at. All of the taco flavored are delicious! Chips and salsa are also good, although not complimentary (~$3). I've also had the green rice and it's very tasty. I love the aesthetics of the place, but the few times I've ever been there's been construction done outside or something being done on the inside and so it's not always the quietest. However, food is always on point. read more

Food, service and ambiance are horrible. I've ate here twice now and will never go back. When I asked the waitress to mention to the kitchen I was gluten free I was told everything is gluten free as she walked off. The FLOUR tortillas aren't! The noise and music level was so loud we couldn't talk and our waitress was to concerned with playing another tables request for a song we waited forever multiple times. read more

La Una was one of the first places my roommates and I went to once restaurants began to reopen, since none of us had tried it before. I'm sure we will be back at some point, but like most Mexican places in Bloomington, it was good, not great. For the record, I would not order three tacos, rice, AND beans. This is what I did, only to discover that the tacos were acrually large and full of meat. I assumed that they would be very small, since most Mexican places like La Una (is there a nicer way to describe them other than "gentrified"?) are skimpy on the portions. But these tacos are big! The rice and beans were nothing to cry home about, and the tacos were all good but not spectacular. We also ordered a regular margarita pitcher. Once again, they were not skimpy--this definitely had a LOT of alcohol in it. Honestly, the pitcher tasted as if they had just dumped a fifth of tequila in and squeezed a lemon or lime on top. So, this could be good or bad depending on whether your goal at La Una is to enjoy your drink or to get buzzed off your drink. I would say that the food and drink at Social Cantina, which is comparable in terms of menu and ~vibe~, are both better. read more

The only reason I'm not giving this place five amazing stars is because of how grossed out I was by the bartender, William?, and the two ladies he was training. They continuously took off their masks to eat and drink behind the bar & never washed their hands before touching and preparing drinks for customer. I saw them shove a chip down their throat and then go directly to opening a drink for a customer and shoving a lime in it with the same fingers they were shoving into their mouths. They were messing with their hair and each other's as well as each others masks. Oh did I mention they were drinking while working ‍ We didn't get anything from behind the bar thankfully, and if I didn't see all of that this would be a raving five star review. Our server was AMAZING! Our drinks were always filled and I'm so glad to finally have a restaurant that has salsa with a kick! The food had great flavor and I 100% will get it again! Hopefully they can retrain those staff members on proper food handling and food safety so I can change this review to the much needed five stars it needs to be. read more

I just stopped in today. I'd been wanting to try this place for some time now... First, they have no ice tea. ??? So your voice for non-alcohol is soda or ice water... Not much choice.. The two tacos I choose were the beef barbacoa and the pork cochinta... The only flavor you could taste in the beef barbacoa was a pepper... Like a bitter jalapenos, in other words blah.... The pork cochinita was not edible. Is was served in a puddle of orange grease... I'm not missing, it covered the plate - yet I still tried a bite and was no way. To top it off, the server never bothered to ask how things were... Not .. Once... Even when he brought the bill and looked right at the nearly untouched taco. I will not return or recommend to anyone.. read more

The food and drinks are pretty good but we received bad service. I have been to La Una many many times and enjoyed my food and drinks, but the last time I went the hostess asked to check our IDs before seating us and refused our IDs even though we were all above the age of 21. We told the host that we are all over 21 and she told us that if we were going to be rude, she does not have to serve us, but we were simply letting her know that we were over 21 since she refused our IDs. This was especially disappointing as we were not going there with the intention of ordering alcohol, we just wanted to have dinner. read more

Some local friends took us here for a night out and we had a great time! If you stick to the taco portion of the menu it's a great way to have good food for a cheap price. We tried the salsa trio, an array of tacos, and a few drinks each. My absolute favorite menu item was the chicken tinga taco, and my only complaint was that the fish on the pescado taco wasn't very well seasoned, although it had a great flavor anyway because of all the tasty toppings.
