My wife and I stopped in to check out the Happy Hour specials and WOW did Papa's exceed all expectations. Started with a dozen oysters - fresh, briny, sweet - and the smoked fish dip served with crisp raw veggies and seeded flat bread was excellent. Our intention was to stay with appetizers and make it a dinner...until we saw the whole fried fish served across the room. Today's catch was snapper. It looked too good to pass up. Lightly seasoned fish, fried but absolutely not greasy, served with a trio of sauces was spectacular. Really. The fish is scored on the outside so you can easily pick the tasty bits off the bones. Next time I consider buying a whole fish for grilling my wife is going to insist we go over to Papa's instead. Part of the restaurant was having some remodeling but they were open but on a limited menu . Another great visit. Daron was our server and he was absolutely wonderful!! He recommended 2 IPAs that my bf enjoyed, he also recommended the mother nature vegetarian rolls that are not on the menu but were really good. This place is dog friendly and had live music tonight. This was like coming to a new restaurant on this visit. We'd actually tried to go to seafood world next door -- it's now called Papas Fish House. But they are no longer serving food -- just acting as a market. They told us the two restaurants (it's the same owner) had combined and some of their items we're now on the menu here. There's a big tented area outside in the parking lot between the two places. You can sit here if you wish. We chose to sit inside and they put us in the quieter back room. They were running a Happy hour special on oysters! At a dollar each oyster, we each got half a dozen: mine were baked; his raw on the half shell. They were good. It took a while for our main meals to come out so that was also a good idea to have an appetizer. I ordered a whole steamed lobster (which they got from the market). It wasn't badly priced (but make sure you get the total price if that's important -- they add a fee for cooking it!). It was good. I just wish they hadn't served it with the tail and claws separated as it didn't look like everything matched together. My husband had a sushi roll with shrimp tempura and avocado and seared scallops. He said it was very good! We had decent service and the casual atmosphere was just fine for an early seafood dinner. I stopped in the market one other time for some fish and remember not getting anything because I didn't like the looks of what was available. Our server last night was brand new and didn't know much about the menu at al but we wanted to come for happy hour, which is until 6 but apparently exited to 7pm so she honored it. We only ended up ordering one thing during happy hour, well two actually, if you count the oysters that we sent back. It didn't sound like $12 for 1/2 dozen was a happy hour deal anyways but when they came out, we were like, "nope". I ended up going with a classic Wahoo roll and when it came out it just looked so sad. Ended up putting a lot of hot sauce on it for flavor and calling it a day. Steve, our server for this afternoon delight, was very helpful for our first-time visit and very attentive though being split between outside service and our table inside. Didn't have any adult beverages, so no comments there, but my girlfriend's diet coke had plenty of fizz (also not common around town,lol) only downside is the calamari wasn't what I'd expected and didn't really care for their rendition, although very tender, it was only rings and no tentacles (which I love) and served with sweet chili sauce. It had a LOT of queso (thats not a complaint btw). It was delicious and fortunately the blackened seasoning kept the shrimp from being lost in the queso. I ordered the key lime pie for dessert. While I am not a local, I have to say this place made me kinda wish that I was. I was looking for a local place for lunch on my way back to the airport, and I am so glad that I found this gem. The seafood was so fresh. I had the Sex on the Grass Sushi roll and one of their July specials, Spicy tuna and wahoo tower. Both were so delicious, not to mention the glasses of wine were 1/2 price. Been to Papa's a few times. Everything is always great! I especially love the bimini bread and the strawberry lemon drop martinis. I don't like seafood, but all my friends love the oysters. There are plenty of options for non-seafood lovers. All servers are really great, but my favorite is Victor. His recommendations are always spot on. Thanks to him, my new favorite are the tacos! Family friendly seafood spot in Lighthouse Point, near Deerfield. Its a low-key place. Jeans and tshirt work hete. Key West vibe. prices are on par with Red Lobster or higher. No sales here lol. Big wine, cocktail, liquor menu too. Don't drink so didn't try it, but lots of tables had bottles of wine! Seafood is pricey but its my second visit, excellent quality. Companion has patronized it for over 10 years. There is a seafood store too attached. No reservations I don't think. Walk up to outside desk, get seated. We sit inside. Last few visits have been too cold. Staff is attentive, friendly. Zero issues. We had the big stone crab claws last time...omg $$$. sweet, fresh. Amazing. Diversity Note: Last two visits, I was the only black patron however there are black staff in the kitchen and a blk guy server. I wasn't uncomfortable. Had great service with my white male companion. Lighthouse Point has not been generally diverse, like some areas of Deerfield. If you like seafood with a Caribbean twist, we like Calypso too, see it here on Yelp. Happy Eating!
