We ordered the Calamari, Sourdough, Parm fries and Pepperoni pizza. The Calamari was delicious. I'll just say the rest was okay. Not bad, not great. My husband ordered a beer and we had water. We saw the waiter 3 times until we got our check. Once to take our drink order, once to take our food order and he checked in after we had been sitting for a while. Long after finishing our meal. He had been standing in the doorway and also bringing another table their second drinks, so he had ample opportunity to check on us and our drinks. Never got refilled waters until we asked. When we mentioned that my husband would have loved another drink he made it seem our fault that he didn't come at the right time. Also being in the service industry, we know this is the worst response he could have chosen. Even after he knew we were not too happy, he never tried to talk to us or apologize. Just disappointing. Anyway, we have 7 more reservations around Monterey and Carmel for this weekend to maybe make up for tonight's disappointment!

Right off the square in Paso Robles, S'Aranella feels like the kind of place you wander into once…read moreand then quietly decide it's going to become part of your routine. Spanish tapas anchor the menu, but the atmosphere leans more toward relaxed wine-country café than formal dining room. It's contemporary, welcoming, and comfortable in a way that encourages you to stay a little longer than planned. The room strikes a thoughtful balance between upbeat and easygoing. It's a great spot for friends catching up, small meetings that turn social, casual gatherings, or celebrations that don't need fuss to feel special. Conversations flow easily, the pace never feels rushed, and the space carries that rare sense of being lively without feeling loud. It already feels like a local favorite rather than a brand-new arrival. Drinks set the tone right away. The old fashioned was clean, balanced, and confidently made--no distractions, just good structure and depth. The Spanish wine list is clearly curated with care. These are not run-of-the-mill selections; they show nuance, texture, and real personality. The food reflects the same philosophy: simple ingredients, handled with intention. The red peppers stuffed with goat cheese were a standout for their restraint. Fresh peppers, silky olive oil, and a firm, beautifully integrated goat cheese that held together rather than crumbling. Nothing flashy, just clean flavors and excellent balance--the kind of dish that quietly wins you over. The mushroom croquettes followed with comfort and finesse. Four crisp, golden bites filled with finely chopped mushrooms and herbs, tender inside and lightly crisp outside. Paired with a Spanish-style cream, they were rich without heaviness and disappeared quickly, which is always a good sign. One of the most enjoyable dishes was the tomato preparation served with toasted bread broken into small, shareable pieces. The tomatoes were bright and juicy, simply seasoned, and meant to be scooped rather than plated formally. It encouraged interaction at the table--passing, sharing, tasting together--and fit perfectly with the tapas spirit of the restaurant. The potatoes were another highlight. Small, skin-on, lightly smashed and roasted until tender with just the right bite. Finished with aioli, they felt hearty but never heavy, seasoned at the right moment and cooked with care. Comforting, well-executed, and surprisingly satisfying. What truly elevates S'Aranella, though, is the service culture. Sitting near the bar and service station turned into part of the experience. Sydney, our bartender, was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to talk with, and other members of the team joined conversations naturally--even when they weren't directly serving us. They shared stories about what they enjoy cooking, why they like working there, and how the restaurant fits into the larger Paso Robles community. There was genuine pride in the way they spoke about the space, the ownership, and their coworkers. That openness created a sense of connection that's hard to fake. You don't feel like a customer passing through--you feel welcomed into something that's being built with care. S'Aranella feels less like a restaurant you try once and more like the beginning of a relationship. Thoughtful food, warm service, and an atmosphere that invites conversation and return visits. Spanish tapas done with heart, confidence, and a clear sense of place--right where Paso Robles gathers.

Came to celebrate a special occasion with excitement to try the only known Spanish restaurant on…read morethe Central Coast. First of all, it was a Saturday night and the place was full on a hot spring day. It was by far the noisiest place I've been in especially with glass doors shut for ac I guess. As it turned darker, the doors were opened and the noise level improved. Now for the foods: We ordered the bone in rib eye, proudly boasted as the house specialty at $4 per oz. Our portion came at $96 (24 oz), pretty pricey so better be something right? Well, it was a disappointment - some parts were tough, chewy and fatty - the gravy sauce and mushrooms were good. The charred Ceasar came with two Spanish anchovies - was ok, interesting taste but not noteworthy. The Lamb stuffed peppers were also ok, nothing special - the ground lamb tasted dry. We also had Papas bravas, commonly called Patatas bravas, one of my fave tapas. I had tasted the best in Barcelona. Well, their papas were basically fried skin on baby potatoes slightly smothered with lioli on top that didn't resemble nor taste like authentic brava sauce which is primarily made with paprika. Their sauce was nothing special but a simple, very common alioli, mayonnaise and ketchup combined. It came pretty dry that I had to ask for extra "brava" sauce - mayo and ketchup - charged me additional $2, really?! Having known a real good Spanish restaurant in San Francisco as well as having been to Spain, I can't say that this place is good enough nor recommendable for authentic Spanish cuisine. That night would be our first and last visit. The service was ok but seems like the regulars get more attention than the "newbies." Last but not least, dessert - their crema catalana, aka creme brulee, supposedly infused with orange was bland with not even a hint of orange or citrus taste to it. The whole experience was truly disappointing :(

The patatas bravas was my favorite to be honest... it's such a simple dish but it's just so good. The sauces and crispy textures of the potato were just delicious. Some of the highlights were: *the Roasted Mushrooms: with garlic parsley butter, parmesan and served with warm toasty baguette. Simple but delicious and comforting. *Whole filet of Dover sole sautéed in a meunière (golden brown butter) sauce with lemon. A classic old school French preparation well executed. delicate. Flaky with a light crisp on the outside from the pan. The brown butter adds a nutty richness, while the lemon cuts through with just enough brightness to keep it balanced. * The Slow Braise Lamb. The lamb is fall apart tender. The kind you can cut through with a. The sauce is rich and savory with a wonderful depth of flavor that is slightly earthy, slightly sweet from the onions, and full-bodied without being overly heavy. The mushrooms add a nice woodsy balance, Excellent service throughout our meal. Only disappointment was that I had requested the Van Gogh table and even received confirmation over the phone, but when I arrived, the hostess had no record of it. Oh well, it is what it is. I had it for a later birthday dinner on a trip to Monterey. I took the last indoor reservation at 9pm. We decided to uber here since we came earlier in the day & the parking was such a hassle. Definitely recommend ubering, or coming at least 45 minutes early to try to find parking! The hostess was pleasant & got us seated right away. Our server was a gentleman who was rather short & seemed rather uninterested in us, which seems consistent with other reviews. I asked about a cocktail I thought I had seen & he scoffed & said "ha - no. wrong restaurant." Which to be fair, my memory isn't great but I don't really enjoy it being pointed out in such a way. I was going to ask for a recommendation but after that, I chose the Fairybird 95. I thought it was just okay. We started with the bread service & mushrooms. The mushrooms were the star of the show, but moreso the oil dipped in the bread. My partner got the cannelloli which he really enjoyed, and I got the gnocchi. The gnocchi to me, after seeing so many raving reviews, was just okay. To me if you've had Italian food in New York, I don't think this will be a stand out place. I think you moreso go here because it is beautiful and very vibey. They also had a very extensive wine list, which is great if you partake. The cocktail menu was quite short, maybe seven drinks total. We ended our dinner with tiramisu which I do think was delicious. This was recommended by our server & I'm thankful he did. It had a very lovely & rich espresso flavor. I don't have much to say about the food which is a bummer. The thing that really stands out to me is how rude the server was & how little he said beyond being rude to me. He was interacting with other tables around us just fine - so I don't know why he couldn't handle our initiation interaction differently. It's a shame because I probably wouldn't have come back either way so I would've liked my one visit to have been more positive.

It's dimly lit, the ambience and decor are perfect for a romantic dinner date. for 6 we got: apps- - croquetas de jamon: crunchy shell with an salty, creamy, potatoey inside, - ensalada de patata: literally tasted like potato salad, couldn't taste much of the crab, the other flavors overpowered; would skip this one - empanadas: the tuna belly was so tender, wasn't dry at all, and paired well with the sauce (reminded us of the orange sauce from Spartans), somehow thought there was chicken in it too but apparently not - mini cornetos de atun: my favorite app, tuna was super tender and flavors melted in my mouth, it was slightly fruity, crunchy from the cone - oxtail canelones: one of the not as memorable menu items, it was oxtail stuffed in a pasta shell but didn't really stand out to me - abuelitas meatballs: sauce reminded me a lot of beefy stock of beef bourguignon sauce, the meat balls were tender and great with the sauce - april special calamari: not really different from other calamari I've had, didn't really taste anything different, it was crunchy and not too oily which was nice main- -pulpo à la brasa: octopus is super tender and paired with a creamy sauce, but not really a standout imo compared to other dishes paellas each came with lemon and side of cream to add to your liking- - paella negra con vieras: extremely creamy squid ink paella, seafood is fresh and this was my favorite - normal paella no squid ink - same as above - paella campestre: this was a slightly less creamy paella with a slight tomatoey flavor with juicy pork belly and chicken overall the paellas were sufficiently creamy and tasty with a variety of meats, they also came out ~20 min rather than the 35 minutes wait time they specified desserts- - tiramisu de melindro: big portion, circular piece of tiramisu in a cup, very creamy, breading is slightly moist, not too sweet - saquets de crema: a few pieces of tasty fried pastry filled with gooey chocolate and cream inside - gorgonzola cheesecake: they put a lot of raspberry puree on top, it wasn't super super cheesy, I think the raspberry puree kind of overpowered the cheesecake but it was still pretty good would come back~

We came to Macarena on a Sunday and was seated almost immediately with a reservation. As soon as we walked in, I was amazed at the interior space, so aesthetically pleasing! As a note, this restaurant is located near the heart of downtown Palo Alto so parking is hard to find and limited, for folks reading this review, I truly hope you get lucky. We came as a party of four and here is what we ordered and our thoughts! *Churros bravos: Definitely the main star of this restaurant (what makes them unique). In my personal opinion, while the potato churros are fun to eat (these are a completely a savory dish), I wish it had more depth to them. They were a bit plain and I wish they were more salted. I do understand though they might have held off since it did come with a sauce already. *Mini cornetos de atun: Cute finger food with raw tuna. I typically love dishes like this; however, I felt like the waffle cone was a bit too sweet and did not contrast well with the tuna. If the tuna had a bit more of orange citrus flavor. I think I would have liked it more. * Grilled calamari: This was good, however I do not think it stood out enough. The salsa mery did not really have any strong flavorings. * Abuelita's meatballs: Surprisingly, I did enjoy these! The gravy coated sauce on both the meatballs and potatoes made it homey and tied it together. *Paella negra con vieras / Paella Campestre: The paellas was tasty, but I wish both had crispier bottoms, but the grains of rice was cooked well. The meat/seafood to rice ratio was perfect to me, and they both had unique flavor profiles. Overall, this place had good food but not enough for me to try to come back a second time.
