Steak Jibarito, Arroz con Gandules, Platano Maduro
    Robert P.

I'll start by saying this was a spur of the moment meal well after the 2026 Puerto Rican parade on Saturday June 13th had ended. A friend and I decided to hit the Humboldt Park area (Western/Division) and take in some Borinqueña atmosphere and sights. After walking up and down Division Street awhile we stumbled upon Papa's Cache Sabroso. The place was jumping! The weather was amazingly gorgeous and outdoor seating was packed. There was a line for seating and takeout. The friendly host was doing an amazing job of keeping it all organized. We chose takeout and ordered a steak Jibarito con arroz y gandules and a side order of plátano maduro all totaling $22.27. As another reviewer noted it is a tad pricey but not overly so. It took about 20+ minutes to get the food...but like their sign states, something on the order of, "this is not a fast food place and good food takes time, please be patient". The Jibarito tasted good overall like other Jibaritos I've had in the past, however my friend commented that although the steak was flavorful, it was a tad chewy and I would slightly agree. The mayo, tomato and garlic kind of brings it all together for me, but I would've liked way more garlic...and there was even a small container of garlic "sauce", but it was very light on the mashed garlic paste. Whenever I dipped my plátano maduro, I couldn't get any pieces of garlic on until most of the olive oil was gone. The rice was standard and flavorful and I really did enjoy the plátano maduro. I would probably return to try the garlic chicken.

I had a great experience eating here while visiting Chicago. It is a very small place but thankfully there were open tables on a Monday evening. The wait staff were attentive and accommodating. The food was delicious- I had the bistec encebollado. The tostones were so magically garlicky that I'm still dreaming about them. It was great. I wish they had more variety on their menu but I understand it's a smaller restaurant.

Cozy mom and pop type restaurant that was busy during dinner rush. Even though it was crowded and the wait time was a little longer than expected, the food was well worth it! My first time trying jibarito and I'll definitely be returning.

I placed an order three Steak Jibaritos online. The pickup process was pretty easy, just had to wait in line while other people ordered their food in front of me. The Jibaritos themselves were good. A little overpriced but still a decent menu. My only issue with them was the lack of garlic on top. I ordered two out of three with arroz con gandules for $2.50 more. The rice was pretty good definitely not the best I've had. Not exactly sure if I'd return anytime soon. $16.50 for Jibarito with rice is a tad bit much. I got my usually spot that tastes a lot better for a lot cheaper as well. Won't rule this place out, but I have my spot already.

If I could rate Papa's Cache Sabroso a 6 I would. Everything from the food to the service was great. Got here right at open. My friend and I were well attended and given space as we were catching up. More customers came in after an hour or two and by the time we left the restaurant was packed. Very cozy, nice local Puerto Rican restaurant. Have been craving to come back after since I left.

There is metered street parking in front of the restaurant. You walk up to a large outside patio and there is a smaller inside eating area. It is a little dark on the interior but the warmth from the service, the amazing food and cheer of other patrons makes up for it. The owner was lovely and the service was excellent. I enjoyed every bit. The portion size is large so you definitely won't leave hungry. I got the rotisserie chicken with white rice and beans and yuca. The garlic sauces was yummy and the spicy sauce had just enough kick. I was just sad I couldn't finish all my food. Definitely worth dropping in and checking out.

Chicken taco 10/10! Seasoned to perfection and the hot sauce gives it a nice kick! Jabarito was good but the chicken was a little bit salty!

Very memorable visit. It has a true mom-and-pop shop feel -- quaint, cozy, and welcoming from the moment you walk through the door. The jibaritos were the best I've had, with perfectly balanced flavors. Service was great.

Casual Puertorican cuisine in a neighborhood vibe. Thier specialty is the rotisserie chicken for its Great flavor and spice. If you happen to be in Humboldt park you must stop by. Try thier hibaritos, the rotisserie chicken is a must.

We did a catering order from Papa Cache for lunch and we all loved it. The chicken was so flavorful and the rice was bomb! Everything came so fresh. Would definitely go back and try at the restaurant. From what we tried, we would highly recommend!

I picked up dinner after 8 pm on a Monday evening. i wanted to try Chicago special Jibarito, and this was the only place I could find open after 8. I went with a steak jibarito. It was excellent. Fried plantains on the side was good as well.

In the world of Puerto Rican cuisine Papa stands up to the best. I stopped in the old neighborhood for a quick bite and was drawn in to Papa's. It's not hard to do. Been here many times because it's tried and true. He's been around on Division street about 25 years and is usually around in the restaurant to meet and greet. The service is excellent with Johnny knowing the menu the neighborhood regulars and knows how to treat newcomers and walk them through the menu. I usually go family style with a friend for a whole chicken, arroz y gandules, and Yuca En Escabeche , yucca with onions, simple but insanely delicious. Now their chicken is off the hook. No one had chicken like this. Lightly spiced broasted to perfection. There's plenty of other menu options to choose from. Their Lechon Asado on Saturdays only is some of the best around. There's also plenty of outside seating so try Papa's out to get a true taste for Humboldt Park.

I LOVE Jibarito's! This was my first one and immediately I fell in love with them! If you're visiting, I'd recommend trying these! I preferred the chicken Jibarito. The restaurant is small and is more of a spot for a quick bite. Service was great and fast.

Thr atmosphere and ambiance was amazing beautifully decorated in the place is small but cozy and you literally feel at home, the owner chef and his bartender hostest greet you like if your family. The owner Eric is so sweet and down to earth he makes you feel like an old friend visiting from the homeland. Katie was supper sweet and very informative on all the menu and drinks. I decided to try the Entre Las Sabanas made with Bacardi & Conac it was so good I asked for a second one. My wife had Tamarindo non alcohol because she was driving, we also asked for the Hummus de Gandules that was so different and so yummy served with plantain chips. For dinner I had shrimps with arroz blanco and pink beans my dinner was so good. My wife had vistec encebollado with rice and beans, she loved it. Our dessert was pudding de pan. It's a must restaurant to visit if you like Puerto Rican food. I highly recommend this restaurant and on weekends it's highly recommend to make reservations. I will certainly return again.

Was so happy to discover this place. I tried to go back on a random Friday night recently, and they were completely booked up for the night, so definitely make a reservation!! Drink: La Playita - yummmm House Starter: Yucca fries and I believe some kind of guava dip? - This was SO good. I need to know exactly what that dip was and how I can get a jar of it. Starter: Queso Frito con Tamarindo - Fried cheese, how can you not love it?? Entree: Pollo Al Ajillo with rice and beans - This was so simple but SO flavorful. And a HUGE portion, perfect for lunch leftovers. I truly cannot stop thinking about this perfectly executed plate. Dessert: Flan - I have never in my life enjoyed flan, but they brought it for my friend's birthday, and I really liked it! Did Marinas make me a flan fan?? It took a bit of time to get our check. I had the feeling they wanted us to sit and enjoy more drinks. Next time I think I will do just that :)
