I was excited to come here just for the onion rings. Finding gluten free onion rings is impossible! My daughter and I ate here because we're both gluten free. I had the bluegill as fish and chips, with onion rings. The blue gill is amazing, but the portion was a bit small. The onion rings have a lot of breadding- almost like tempura. I got a small macaroni and cheese, and it was amazing. So cheesy, and the bread crumbs were very light on top, which was just enough. I highly recommend this! But again, the small was like a cup of soup size. My daughter got the quesadilla, which was served with what tasted like jarred salsa. Very, very mild. The fried pickles looked almost burned, but were good- they are sliced pickles, not spears. I would get the fish and macaroni and cheese again. I'm ok with the onion rings, but I wish the onions were bigger. Overall, it's great to have a gluten free dedicated restaurant. read more

If you are Celiac like me this is a dream come true. The chicken strips were 10 out of 10, fresh juicy chicken and fries. If you need to avoid gluten & are in the GR area, then you must visit Papa Chops. My niece cannot eat gluten, and was overjoyed to find items such as poutine and a fried chicken sandwich on the menu. She and I shared the very generous poutine portion--my only quibble is that the fries were a tad underdone. Niece loved the chicken sandwich, however. I never write reviews but I have to for this restaurant. I finally visited Papa Chops yesterday. First of all, I was so excited that I was at a restaurant where I could order ANYTHING off the menu! I didn't want to get my hopes up, though, because maybe it wouldn't taste good. I ordered the crispy chicken wrap. (I haven't had crispy chicken in YEARS- since I developed a gluten allergy.) After reading the reviews, I was excited to try Papa Chops, but unfortunately, it did not live up to the billing. I understand the attraction of a restaurant that is fully gluten free, but the food was just meh. I had the Nashville hot chicken. It was less juicy than I would want. The gluten-free bun crumbled on first bite and left the sandwich condiments down the front of my shirt. My wife's burger was just ok. The pot roast bites were terrific but for the price there were just 5 little balls. The fact that this was over $40 with the drinks means I won't be back. read more

This is a must for anyone who has to eat gluten free. I have been gluten free for 13 years now, but I do miss some foods that I once could eat. Papa Chops is a game changer. They have the stuff that you wish you could order from restaurants but it's never gluten free. They had poutine, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, sandwiches (where the bun was actually good), and a whole lot more. The food was amazing! We ordered multiple things from the menu, and all of it was great. Not one complaint! We live an hour away, and it was well worth the trip. We will be back! read more

I give it 3 stars for the fact the food was descent, I don't know what everyone is raving about 4 of us ate there last night , chicken sticks( 5 pieces the size of a pencil each, I am sure ther wasn't but 2 oz of ckn)fries , poutine, pot roast poppers( 5 little balls),bull rider burger( MAYBE 4oz at most)onion rings, 2 orders of mozzarella stic and 1 drink, $80 for dinner and not one fresh item. I am a retired chef and I have had Celiac for nearly 20 yrs , but because it's genetic I lived gf due to mother and grandfather, most of my adult life, point being, there are so many better gluten free choices in Grand Rapids with better food selection and presentation that unless you need to eat a FRIED FOOD FEAST, there are much better choices for LESS money and less detriment to your health read more

Brand New and VERY impressive! Beyond excellent chicken sandwiches (OMG the blue cheese chicken sandwich is to die for), fries, and the onion rings are out of this world. I wish the portions for the sides was a little larger, but to have these items in a GF facility is very exciting. Everything on the menu I tried is yummy, and that's the bottom line. Good quality, tasty food will bring people back whether it's GF or not. I also appreciate that they use brown paper bags instead of styrofoam or plastic for all their containers.
