Finally got to experience the Pickle Back in Marne! A friend had a bit of a going-away get together there recently. She's originally from Marne, so I've heard about it for years. The space inside is surprisingly huge, making it nice for larger groups. It was busy but not super packed when we were there on a Friday evening. The offerings are your typical dive bar selections and they did have a few craft options on tap. I was super hungry so we got some food - chicken tenders with fries for me, and an olive burger for Nate. The chicken tenders were hot and pretty tasty, and I loved the fries. I had a couple bites of the olive burger and was impressed - not too greasy, a thicker patty, and plenty of olives on a kaiser roll. Definitely a solid bar burger. I have to give a shoutout to our server with shoulder length blonde hair (I should have gotten her name) - she was incredible. Hustling the entire time, friendly and polite, while never forgetting any drinks, and keeping up with our group as we moved from a booth to a table. Overall this is a nice neighborhood dive bar and I felt comfortable and welcome there. I don't live nearby but if I did, this would be a regular spot. read more

Got off the interstate and stopped in here from the Yelp ratings. This is a fairly large restaurant/bar, I would really deem it a local, divey bar. Very noisy from the arcade/gambling game machines in the back. Had one server who also doubled as the bartender. Despite this she was nice and efficient. Unfortnately, the food just fell way short. My wife ordered the chicken tenders and she said that they were the worst she had ever eaten (actually she couldn't eat much of them). They were not real chicken, but ground up parts (think McD chicken nuggets). They broke apart vs one tearing them apart. She also said that the side of ranch was nasty. I had the fried chicken sandwich and much to my dismay it was assembled with the same fake chicken tenders. The waffle fries were good though. Very disappointed with the food quality. read more

Delicious! I had the Philly steak and onion rings. The onion rings were some of the best I've had. Really crispy and the breading was perfect, didn't overpower the onion. Great flavor in the Philly steak sandwich. There were 10 of us and food came out fast and hot! read more

I normally really like this place because they have cornhole and you don't have to take a loan out for a couple brews, however last night I had a terrible experience and will no longer be coming back ever. My 6 acquinatances and I sat at a round table and we were approached by a bartender, the bartender asked if we wanted to do shots and I of course shouted "no" with no other thoughts. She was trying to get us to do shots and asked if we were celebrating anything and it was our friends birthday and I asked if he could do a free shot and she said no. Then I asked if she ever does "shot roulette" which is when one shot is water and the rest are all regular. She turned on her heel before even answering me. She spawned back at our table two seconds later with an entire tray of 7 pickleback shots. I was sitting there already late on my rent payment when she said "who's tab is this on" and looked down at me at asked me "what's your name darling" DO NOT CALL ME DARLING! I have to refinance my car now. To make matters worse, not a single shot was water. Not a single shot was discounted, if you unconsensually buy seven shots she could've humored me and threw in the birthday boys for free. When I threw the final Hail Mary asking for any sort of deal, she pointed to the pickle water shots and said those were all free, I wasn't too drunk yet to not know those are always free. She took advantage of me and I am really upset and never coming back ever. read more

Whoaaaaaaa Nelly! This place is pretty great! Stopped in on a Friday for lunch. I ordered the Pickle Back Burger. The service was quick and the burger was perfect! The bun comes out buttered and just a little crispy And they have this Pickle Slaw that is incredible!!! I'll definitely be back to try some other tasty menu selections. read more

Fantastic find! Cursing down the interstate. Went to our 'go to' app Yelp for good food and landed on The Pickle Back restaurant ad. Stopped in and immediately loved it! Great welcome from locals, then the staff & owner. Shared some stories, checked out the nice selections on menu. Special of the day Hot Pork Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes sounded good. The Ruben Sandwich was calling my name! Delic, grilled to perfection. Also order a Grilled Chicken Wrap. Both really good. Plentiful portions! Great beverage selections too! Good food. Jalopeno cheese bite delicious. Olive burger great, green olives mixed into the mayo, burger cooked perfectly, little pink in the middle. Onion rings crisp not oily. Staff was friendly, even split the cheeseburger in half on separate plates for the kids. read more

We are traveling and like to try home town spots. This is definitely a home town spot. Had a good feel with good service Place was clean ( except restroom ) , but food was ok. Ordered take out , only took 10 min to get it done . We had olive burgers, and they were great, ! Side of onion rings and fries , and everything was great. Only suggestion and reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the hamburger was a bit on the crispy side, but it still tasted fantastic ! All the things on the burger where fresh and it was sloppy like a great olive burger should be . The waitress was awesome , friendly, and I gave her a new drink , which my friend , who just got back from Ireland brought with him, , they said they might have as shot of the wk ! Unfortunately we didn't have a very good experience. 5pm on a Friday we walk in and sit at the bar looking over the other side of the bar and looking at a large stage/dance floor. Kitchen was at our backs. We ordered a couple drafts and the fried pickles. Female bartender was nice and attentive. As we are eating our app and conversing we notice someone sweeping the dance floor/stage as we both wandered why someone would be sweeping this huge floor while food is around. Then the lady wheeled out a mop bucket and mopped the floor. Both not the best visuals as you eat. After all her hard work she is rewarded with a bottled beer for her effort from the bar we were sitting at. We order nachos and a Rueben. Not long after we dig into the sandwich and nachos a male is behind the bar and starts dunking glasses from tub to tub right in front of us sloshing bleach water 18 inches from our plates. The bleach smell was overwhelming. My wife brought up the bleach smell to him and then the female bartender (who at least said that would be hard to smelll and eat as she took away our half eaten plates). My wife asked the gentleman to speak to the owner and he left to go find her. As we are waiting the smell of cigarette smoke became noticeable. Off to our right is a front entrance that we came in and had a pair of huge windows next to it. As a couple smokers are outside puffing away and the smoke drifting in the WIDE open windows one decides to exhale his smoke through the screen of the WIDE open windows inside the Pickle Back at a friend walking by the window inside. Finally the owner steps behind the bar which turns out to the women that was drinking the bottle beer reward 15 minutes earlier. Drinking on the job. Very professional. She offered no apologies, no discount, no nothing but a "by law we have to use bleach ", I've never had a compliant in 15 years, and a big thanks for coming in by the owner and 1-2 other employees as we went out the door. So if you want to feel like you are eating in your bathroom with fresh cigarette smoke and have $50 you want to throw away this is a must try!!! First time visit today and we will definitely be back. Loved the fried pickles and the spicy ranch dressing gave them a perfect kick. My husband had a burger with fried egg and he said it was great. The grilled chicken wrap was the perfect size and the pickle slaw had great flavor. The bartender (who I think was the owner) was super friendly and gave us great suggestions. This place is definitely a gem in Marne and will be a regular stop for us on the way to the cabin! read more
