The Greek salad has pepprocini peppers not pepperoni as listed on Yelp's menu which made me happy coz I don't eat meat. The potatoes tasted lemony but I wasn't expecting half a baked potato! The spicy chicken is flavorful with lots of banana peppers, onions and lettuce to balance the spice. Hummus was good but not as authentic as others from middle eastern restaurants. I ordered takeout from here today and it was OKAY. I got the spicy gyro and fries. I don't know if the spicy feta had curdled or what was going on but the feta kind of ruined the rest of the gyro. The parts with no feta on it were fantastic so I'm not ready to write them off yet but I definitely wouldn't recommend getting the spicy gyro, also it's not spicy. read more

Panini Opa is a long time absolute favorite of mine, and honestly for a great value. All of their food is fantastic. My personal favorite is the Greek salad with grilled shrimp and fresh cut fries. As you can see the shrimp are big and fresh! I also love their dolmades, they are out of this world. They are traditional - filled with lamb and rice and served warm with a lemon cream sauce. I really want to like Panini Opa, because they're close to our house, and there's not a lot of Greek food nearby. I've tried them 3 different times, spaced out with many months between each visit, and each time I have the same opinion. The restaurant is darling, cutely decorated. The people are nice. The prices are ok. But... the food is, well, highly mediocre. Nothing special. Disappointing. They say three times a charm, but in this case, three times is enough. Friendly atmosphere and best lamb chops I've had in a while! Was out late during the week, so great to find a place with good food after 9pm, with service pretty quick. Lamb chops very tender and juicy, and also falafel freshly made. Also had shrimp past dish which didn't disappoint with several large shrimp. read more

In the area, scanning my Yelp bookmarks, we decided to stop at Panini Opa for lunch. It's a cute space, definitely on the small size on the inside, but they do have quite a large outdoor seating area, a good hunk of which is covered with a nice awning. It's kinda a bummer that there outdoor space overlooks parking lots and the Sawmill/Bethel Rd. intersection, but, hey, you win some, you lose some. I ordered a Mini Gyro from their kids menu section. I also got an appetizer of their hummus to share with everyone, and an order of their falafal to try. My gyro has great tender juicy shaved meat. The pita bread was on the harder side, but not a complete deal-breaker. I did not like the hummus as much as I was anticipating. It was quite bland with not distinct flavors whatsoever. The fried falafal balls were good, but again, they came with the hummus for dipping, and that combo was a no-go. The fries that came with my meal were fresh and tasty, tho, which I shared with the table. This Mediterranean fast-casual eatery seemed to have a steady flow of pick-up, and to-go orders the entire time we were there. We had passed Panini Opa on the corner of Bethel and Sawmill a thousand times before finally deciding to try it one evening. I love Greek food, and Mediterranean of all sorts is at the top of my list. So, finally the day had come and we decided to give it a shot. My first impression when we walked in was that Panini Opa is a slightly fancier version of Greek Express. You order at the counter and then take a seat to wait for your name to be called. That said, it is a stylish restaurant, and we were comfortable. I ordered the pasticio -- one of my favorite Greek dishes -- and my wife ordered a chicken gyro sandwich. We waited maybe ten minutes for the food to come out, which is not bad at all, and it was piping hot when it did. My wife said that her gyro sandwich was very satisfying. It was tasty, with the right blend of spices, and had a "kick" without being overpowering. I tasted it myself and thought it was quite delicious. My pasticio was good, but it was not delicious. Pasticio takes time to make, so I ordered it knowing that it had likely been made hours if not days before, stored in a fridge, and then warmed up. Unlike other restaurants where I've ordered it before, at least Panini Opa makes sure that it's warmed all the way through, not hot on the outside and cold on the inside, which was a plus for me. However, the ground meat and bechamel on top were slightly hard in places that did, in fact, indicate that it had been sitting for a while. Also, the flavors of the meat had not penetrated the noodles that make up the bottom layer. So, it was basically a layer of plain tube noodles on the bottom, and top layer of ground meat and bechamel. The top layer had a really good flavor, so I cut it all up and mixed it into the pasta below. The ambiance was laid back and comfortable, somewhere between fast food and a fancier restaurant -- definitely Greek Express notched up a level. The noise level was low. The big screen tv hanging on the wall was turned off, which made me happy. The plates and silverware -- paper and plastic, almost all of which goes to the dumpster. Will I go back? I have no reason not to. There are other items on the menu that look good, and if they are as good as my wife's gyro, then I could become a semi-regular when in need of quick tasty Greek food. Close to work Panini Opa is a good place to get Greek Food over near Sawmill and Bethel. I got the gyro and grape leaves. The gyro was jam packed with ingredients. By the time I finished, I didn't have room for the grape leaves. No worries, they made a great lunch for the next day! With dine in options or order to-go you can pick how you enjoy your food. They have a Coca-Cola machine that let's you add your own syrup flavorings. The food comes out fairly quickly and has a ton of flavor. read more

I had been meaning to stop by here ever since I moved out this way and finally found the chance. I have been 2 times now. The first was mid afternoon and everything went off without a hitch. This may be because they were not busy, I'm not sure. Everything was perfect. I ordered a Gyro, Fries, and Red Wine. This great experience guided me to try them out again. My second visit was not a pleasant. I ordered the same thing. The pita for the gyro did not taste very fresh and the order for my mom was all messed up. We watched many customers also come back complaining of messed orders. This was Friday evening. This could also be a factor, again, I'm not sure. My wife and I tried this restaurant for the first time 3 evenings ago, we have now had dinner there for the last 3 nights. Being in the restaurant industry myself for 35 years I have very high expectations and don't give 5 stars without extremely high merit. We've tried 6 different dishes and every one was absolutely delicious. The entire staff are extremely nice, friendly and very service oriented, excellent service!!! Panini Opa is a decent place it grab some Greek food. I always order the Greek salad with chicken. It's served with pita bread and always satisfies the cravings I get for Greek salads. My only concern is the slow service and high prices. I think Panini Opa is a bit expensive when compared to similar places around Columbus. In my opinion, if I'm paying $24 for one Greek salad and a panini with fries, it should be served on something other than a paper plate. I usually end up waiting 10 minutes or so for my food, which seems long for the set up of the restaurant. I don't know. The food tastes good and I'll continue to go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

It was very clean when you walk in, you order at the counter and then take a seat and wait for your food. I got the Greek panini in hopes that it was going to be like a gyro and it wasn't, which was my fault. It was gyro meat, feta, tomatoes and a ton of black olives. If you like olives, you'll love it, I do not though so I wasn't a big fan. My wife got a gyro which was delicious, I will try that next time I go. I'm a sucker for Mediterranean food in general, and this place did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in, the place feels warm and welcoming. The interior/exterior design was super impressive and cozy. My boyfriend ordered the chicken melt which was good, but nothing exceptional. I, on the other hand, ordered the chicken gyro and it was out of this world yummy. The garlic sauce was exceptional and it was a huge gyro. I know that when we go back, both of us will be ordering it again. We also split the Avgolemono soup (lemon soup), and it was flavorful and delicious. It's still good though and would be fine if food was priced accordingly. They have good healthy options. I had the falafel combo. It was about $12 which seemed way too high. The falafel was good but there wasn't enough of it. It came which fries which were hot. The most annoying thing is the drink machine is at the end of the line. I've been eyeing this place ever since it was converted from a Rally's to a quasi-fast food/sit down Greek/Italian hybrid joint. I finally got the opportunity to go a few weeks ago, on election day, actually. First of all, even though they are labelled "Greek/Italian", this place is more predominantly Greek. Wasn't an issue for me, since I went in wanting Greek food. The interior is cozy with large screen TVs. You order your food at the register, and your table doesn't have a server. Not a problem. I ordered the gyro platter which came with a fountain drink, which happens grant you access to a Coke Freestyle machine. A big plus in my books. They also have a small but affordable selection of wines, which on certain days are half off. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and I'm looking forward to visiting again. read more

I've been throwing up a lot of 5 star reviews lately, but I guess I just happen to be hitting up some great restaurants! Stopping by Panini Opa, I was actually surprised I hadn't reviewed it yet, because I've been coming here for years. I can't tell you how good everything is on the menu, since I pretty much stick to the amazing gyro. It was the first thing I had tried way back then, and it's still just as good now. The garlic sauce they use may be the best in Columbus. It's rich and a bit thicker than other places like Sababa and Mezze and has a great bite to it. The beef and lamb meat is cooked perfectly, and the pita is fantastic. You used to be able to get platters but now everything is a la carte. You should definitely try the fries. The spice they coat them with his so good, but get a side of the garlic sauce to dip them in, and you'll take them up a notch. My girlfriend had the Greek salad with falafel, and it is massive! You could definitely make a couple meals out of it. The falafel was tasty as well. I haven't had issues in the past, but this past Saturday, the service was extremely slow. They had a packed house, and it looked like they may have been filling some catering orders, so I'm going to write that has a one off. Also, the parking lot is extremely tight, so you'll want to be careful pulling in there. Other than that, this place is great and definitely a needed Greek spot for that particular area. Imagine the challenge: transform this half-assed fast food drive-thru shack into something more upscale looking and faux romanesque. Impossible! Going from something cartoonish as a Rally's to a quick hit Mediterranean sit down with Hellenic stylings is just plain clownshoes. But that is just what they did. Give them the props of a big win. 122 reviews of it already and I visited for the first time though I reside in the neighborhood. Makes me kinda out of it but it tends to disappear floating there in the parking lot of Scores once Columbus Gold, the blue light teese of the NW, and Adam and Eve tempt shop that blows the hot and bothered level through the roof, and the wonderful Mexicano ice flavors of Diamonds a strip club name itself. With such a sensual background it is no mystery why Opa might be overlooked while transversing the corner. Yet eventually looking for a meal before a show I finally thought to try it. I was impressed with the total reformated space. Dark and romanic with flute lights, wine vine drappings, cubist artwork, and shinny floors, a romantic feel. At first it is confusing whether this is a table or counter served opperation. The interior seems decidedly upscale like a Short North wine bar with more than expected seating in the small space. But it is counter serve and the prices are of any other Greek bistro or cafe in town. As is the menu of gyros, paninis, and sweets. They also sell wine and have a couple beers on tap, but I withheld alcohol and went with softdrinks dispensed from the touch screen machine that is now ubiquitous around town. The food pops up quickly. Nice Gyro of which I ordered the generic featuring meat onion, lettuce, and tomato under a creamy garlic sauce. I picked their lemon potato wedges for a side. Nice meal for under $8. The gyro had plenty of meat. The balance of taste favored the topping though. I found the garlic sauce to be devine and wouldn't mind it was a salad. The meat and pitty were good and savory but could had been more so. I think the gyro was satisfying though the meat could had stood out more. The lemon potatoes were a treat; a nice sweat starch that mixed well with the gyro. Seating can be a problem. As said I was surprised at their economy of space but I was lucky others left while I ordered or I would had been without a place to eat. So keep that in mind as the place was packed. They do have a lovely designed patio complete with faux Grecian garden tropes and bistro black mesh furniture but that won't be any use until March at the earliest. We have been going to this lovely little restaurant since we moved to lovely Columbus last year. The folks that work there are always helpful and the food is wonderful. My husband has tried their regular and Spicy Chicken and Regular and spicy Gyro's plus their Philly Shrimp Gyro, he says all are fantastic and the sauces compliment and do not overpower the taste of the meats. I came here on a Friday around 2 and it was sparse. A lot of people were coming in to grab their to-go orders, but they will have to wait in the same line as those of us who are also placing an order to dine in. We were clustered by the entrance so the space was not conducive for all of us. I'm not sure if they usually have the menu on the screens but if they do, they weren't working today. The menus were all the way on the counter so it was a little disorganized. Service was just okay. The lady at the register was the only one taking orders and handing out the orders. She seemed busy and it made for a very rushed experience. Food was alright. Not the best. I got a gyro which had lamb, much too large chunks of tomato, shredded lettuce, onions, way too much feta, and what tasted like ranch (though it should've been tzaziki). It was seasoned well but I didn't like the sauce. It was so weird that it tasted like ranch... it made for a very Americanized experience (typical here in Columbus). My friends also got the gyro and a shrimp gyro thing. They all thought it was okay. The fries were good though. Seasoned well and a lot for $2. Space was clean and I liked the atmosphere.
