The Gyro Shoppe is yet another of those fast food Greek establishments in Columbus. It's all similar but this isn't as good. The food making process is obviously microwave and wrap it up. It has some healthy options. The service is the best thing. I ordered the falafel pita. It's about $5 for only the pita and about $8 for the combo. The falafel was dry and overlooked. It likely is precooked already. This tasted like it could have been microwaved but it did appear the grill was used. It comes with a yogurt sauce but if you want a vegan option go with the hummus. The toppings are pretty skimpy. It came with a few pieces of onion. There also was the combo option of getting it with fries, which are better than anything in the pita. I wouldn't go to The Gyro Shoppe for good Greek food. If you go a little further there's a few others just like it. There's way too many Greek options in Columbus to settle for anything from this. read more

I love this place so much. I have been eating here for 25 years and I hope it's around 25 years from now. They have THE BEST tzatziki sauce I have ever had and it's not even close. I have bought pints of this stuff in styrofoam cups. You can dip anything in it and it turns into magic. The American Army sub with a side of fries covered in lowry's seasoning salt with extra sauce for dipping the fries. It's a religious experience every time. This was my first time at The Gyro Shoppe, and it was overall a disappointing experience. Had I ordered the food to go, it may have been less disappointing... but I dined in. The seats and tables weren't wiped down. The window sills were pretty dirty. There was a yellow mop bucket completely covered in grime in plain sight behind the counter as I sat and ate. I ordered the super gyro, a side of french fries, a falafel appetizer, and a soda. The staff was pretty friendly. The gyro was a generous portion, tasty, and priced reasonably. It however did not set itself apart from any of the other gyros that I've had in town. The french fry was overcooked and the portion size was small for the price. The falafel was pretty good. The fountain drink... did not come with free refill. Seriously? It looks like this place has been around for a while, so it may have been one of the better Greek/Mediterranean joints in the past... but in my opinion this place may be past its prime. I would much rather go to Mezze next door or Panini Opa down the street for my gyro fix in the future. read more

The only thing I don't like about this place - and the reason I can't give it 5 stars - is that I always feel like it's a little dirty inside... both the dining room and the kitchen area. Best Tzatziki sauce in town in my opinion. Love this stuff. I've been going to the Gyro Shoppe for years. They have a really large menu and great desserts. Their gyro's come in mini, regular & jumbo and the jumbo is huge. The meat is very flavorful, never dry and always fresh. Their fries are pretty much fair fries and so good. Very fresh and they have vinegar there too that you can sprinkle on. I like dipping my fries in the tzatziki sauce. Their sauce is right up there with Genji's yum yum sauce which means it's the BOMB diggity!!!! I've never tried anything on their menu other than the gyro because I'm so in love with them I can't imagine getting anything else. Their prices are really reasonable too. I got the #1 combo today with a mini gyro, soda and fry (fry portion was huge), small side of extra sauce and it was only a little over $5. This is always a once or twice a year treat since it's so out of the way but it is oh so worth it. If you are greek food fan you have to check this place out. read more

The chicken tasted strange, I didn't like the seasoning they used. The pita/wrap was terrible, it was paper thin. Sorry but when I order a gyro, I expect to have a fluffy, thick pita! On my last 2 visits the pita bread was stale, the gyro sandwich meat portions were about half what they used to be and the lettuce, onions and tzaziki sauce were a sloppy mess. I made it to this location right on time with maybe 15 minutes to spare but he had already closed up shop. I knocked on the door and told him that I drove a nice distance and that I still had time to spare. He went ahead and opened the door and asked me what I wanted to order. I opted for two Greek salads with gyro meat. I was glad that he opened the door but he was totally skimpy with the gyro meat in comparison the my favorite location. The Gyro Shoppe is a ways out for us centralized folk, but if you're in the area, they have some of the best falafel in the city. My old roommate turned me onto them, claiming it was the best gyro in the city. He was big on the shawarma, but I valued his opinion enough to hope this praise would bleed over to the veggie side of the menu. Gyro Shoppe did not disappoint. It also has a pretty nice building. It looks like it might have been some other kind of restaurant before, potentially Mexican or something. Decent stonework, and if I recall, a couple of stone patio tables. It's been a year since I was out there. I'm the kind of guy that's crazy enough to ride all the way out Henderson for some falafel, but I don't do that shit often. I thought this place was better than it was. I had been here years ago and thought it was on par with other gyro shops. I would go to the myriad of other gyro places over this place. I usually like gyro shops that look like they were Taco Bells at one time. The ehh: I was expecting that Greek spice that some other fast food gyro shops use but their fries are just fries. We also seemed to get a bag of nubs as the bag was full of small pieces. My wife's gyro seemed to be missing some of the white sauce for at least the first few bites. The chocolate chip baklava was just mushy and wet. It did not satisfy my sweet tooth and it had a nasty cherry on top. The inside store was also a little dirty. It could have been cleaned a little more often. Decent: My gyro was decent but nothing exceptional. I would rate this lower than my other usuals (fast food gyro shop on West Broad). The service was pretty quick and efficient. I will probably not return unless I lived within walking distance and was hungry for a gyro. read more
