The ambiance of this place was just very down. The people at the registers were the only real pleasant people in the establishment, and this one other girl that was handing people her food. Customer service is everything, and there was hardly any service or interaction here. It's so open as it appears you can see your food and it being made in front of you but everyone is basically silent. It's a little sad almost. I don't ever write Yelp reviews ever honestly. We walked in, and there were a few customers standing near the counter. We couldn't tell if they had already ordered or were waiting to order. I have been avid user and customer of this Panera bread location for the last eight years after relocating form the Southeast. After my visit on Sunday 10/02/22, I will not longer be using this location due to the unprofessionalism and sarcastic undertones two employees (one being a supervisor) in particular I was dealing with when addressing a curbside order. Oh and by the way, the Just like in prison comment was unmerited. I was communicating that on several occasions I have had some issues with orders at this location, but not overtly unfixable. The drink I ordered was not only incorrect , but when addressing the employee and assistant manger that was on duty I was told we don't do refunds when it is busy. We just swap the food out. This was just a simple exchange that could have been resolved by simply stating we are busy we are going to be with you as soon as we can. No one answered the phone when we called. We were calling to verify that the order was indeed curbside, which it was and we had confirmation that it was already finished. We were told flash the emergency blinkers when our vehicle has arrived for curbside. I don't recall anyone coming out to our vehicle to verify that order was received. I work in customer service as well and have been the retail and food and beverage industry for a number of years. Telling a customer we are busy and we don't do refunds for inconveniences is a tad unprofessional and has left a bad impression of business. I was also told the main manager is on vacation when I wanted to make a personal complaint about the unprofessional conduct of the supervisor. Food was good as always but I had ordered pick up and got a bread bowl Mac and cheese and had just gotten a small Mac and cheese. It cost about a dollar more then the large. I had also ordered two 16oz drinks and one was only a 12oz. There was no rush and if they couldn't do the bread bowl it should not be on the menu. Deserves zero stars. Have tried multiple times to order food here and there are always problems. They run out of food regularly. They never toast their bagels even when asked. They are barely warmed. Time to receive food is incredibly lengthy. They also can't give you your drink or food to you that is ready and sitting at the window getting cold if there are any food items you are waiting on still being made. I've been pretty disappointed with this particular location(Hazel Dell), every time for the past few times when I ordered their meals(bowls, salads), size of the meal has dramatically changed. Ordered food on their app. The wait was long but that was understandable considering how busy they get. However, once I got my order, I quickly noticed that I didn't get the baguettes I ordered (one of which I paid extra for) and instead got potatoe chips . I called them and asked to get my money back for the one banquette I paid extra for and the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude. When you're out of something, you should call the customer and let them know. Not just assume that they're going to be okay with getting potatoe chips instead. Sometimes I eat here 3 times a week. I often crave sandwiches, salads, or soup so I'm glad this location is so close to home and work. Use the rapid pickup on the app (which I love) or the drive thru if you want to eat somewhere else. If I'm ordering a few things then the app is best but if it's just one thing and the drive thru isn't full I'll use that. My favorites are avocado_egg white power sandwich (I choose the asiago bagel instead), spicy Thai salad, broccoli cheddar & creamy tomato soup, the turkey/avocado BLT, and the roasted turkey/carmalized kale panini. The lack of care definitely Not worth going through or spending your money on. I've received countless salads with missing dressing, missing sides, and piece of uneven cut burnt panini with two slices of meat when I bought a "Steak panini" that wasn't cheap. When I receive my food, based on the quality and time, feel like I'm bothering the business. That's definitely not OK. I've been noticing this for a while and the community is too by the reviews. I was in the North Andover Panera when I ordered the Caprese sandwich. When I got the sandwich and looked inside they must have forgotten the filling!! Inside in the sandwich was a tablespoon of a concoction of what looked like tomato paste, that has a disgusting flavor of some kind of spice and no sign of cheese. Where is the fresh, healthy sandwich? A is fresh ripe tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese. I paid a small fortune for s sandwich I threw out. The staff was so untrained it was laughable. Stopped by today for what I hoped to be a quick order in store for a Togo order. Walked in and waited about 5 minutes to be helped. Waited about 30 minutes for my pick two order of a Cobb salad no chicken and half grilled cheese. My order finally comes up in the window and I grab my bag and look in it, no sandwich. I asked the guy for it, he had two in his hands and he guessed which one was mine and handed it to me. I get to the car and look to make sure it's correct, it's not. The menu is astounding, and some of the prices are unbelievably low! They have Wi-Fi! I didn't see it when I drove through (didn't check) but I did when I was inside! We have mostly stopped going to the Hazel Dell location for Panera, even though it's the closest one to our home. They get our order wrong with surprising frequency, but at least in the pre-Covid days the staff was friendly and the place was clean. Nowadays, they still get the order wrong. But other aspects of their service have gone downhill too. On a recent visit, there was no one up front. I finally went back to the order pick-up area and asked if someone could help us. A guy there said "sure" but no one showed up for another 5 minutes or so. The place looked deserted; it used to be much busier. Last week, we gave them one last try. They gave us the wrong soup. I tried phoning them immediately, but no one picked up. I then emailed Panera from their website -- a week later, no response. No more Hazel Dell Panera for us. What a let down! In the interest of fairness I will begin this review by saying that my friend and I went to this Panera to have something warm to drink, we didn't intend to eat. It was a Saturday, at about 12:30 pm, so it was a bit busy, but there was still an adequate amount of seating to be had. This visit was the very first time I ever went to a Panera Bread Restaurant. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all the wonderful things I have heard about the people, the food, the atmosphere and the Panera commitment to community. The customer service person who took our orders wasn't overtly rude, but she didn't go out of her way to make us feel welcome or that she had any interest in giving us a "delightful" customer experience. My friend ordered a hot chocolate and I ordered a coffee. I asked the counter person/cashier what sizes of coffee they offered. She competently answered in ounces; 4 ounces, 6 ounces, etc. I looked at the cups stacked on the counter (same as they are everywhere) and asked if they had anything larger. She said they had one larger, which she reached down and brought up from beneath the counter. I said I will take that. I attempted to engage her in some friendly conversation, just to be polite and civil as she processed my order. I asked her to please be patient; as this was going to be my first time using Google Pay. She just kept looking at me like I was an idiot. I don't know, maybe I WAS being an idiot. She plopped the cup on the counter, I held my phone over the payment processing terminal and that was that. Her treatment of my friend was no better, not rude, but clearly not really wanting to do anything other than interact with the payment system. OK, maybe she was having a bad day. Her attitude sure put a damper on mine. I walked through the restaurant twice. I was surprised at how small it was. The people working were busy, but none of them smiled. Not even at each other. It felt grim. Maybe they have a lousy manager, or they were short staffed. I don't know. What I can say confidently though is that I have worked for decades in customer service/customer focused businesses, this Panera Bread failed miserably in every metric I look for. I KNOW customer service isn't easy, I KNOW some people are really miserable to try and serve. I KNOW what it's like to have someone rip you up and down simply because you are working in a service industry. That is why I try so hard to be the opposite of all those things. I doubt I will be returning to Panera Bread to try any of their food. I get far friendlier service at my local Taco Bell and I can order the food to be just as "healthy" without all the hype. I feel bad writing such a negative review, but the experience wasn't pleasant for me at all. My friend? She just sort of shrugged it off and said that there were bigger things to worry about. She's probably right. If you really want to try Panera Bread; maybe try another location. I went to the corporate website "Manna Development Group" found the "contact us" section and left a comment similar to this review for them. I keep going back to this location as I keep hoping this location will clean up and get some good food standards and bring up their quality as I love Panera bread food but no they haven't as I went the other day my daughter's soup was cold not even warm my salad was all wilted so sent it back my salad came back a totally different wrong salad so send it back and it came back wilted again and my daughter's apple had a hole in it beyond gross so over this location no standards for the price they charge.
