Classic American sandwiches that are piled thick and delicious! Great location in City Center and thoughtful service.

Counter with menu minus the specials.

Need a sandwich you could make at home? If so then you are home. I travel for work and don't have the option but today I was feeling a sammich. City Sandwich looks to be a mom & pop local favorite as there were a few customers coming through but not a normal lunch crowd for a downtown business area. Staff was nice, sandwich was made to order and in about 5 minutes. Here's my three things. 1) Basic menu with most sandwiches being ones you could make at home. 4 bread options and they have some additional sides other than chips. Couple of specials help brighten the menu. 2) Location is great and not crowded so easy to get a sammich. This is a sandwich shop and not a deli. Yes, there is a difference. 3) If you like the hits ( aka the pop music of sandwiches) then you are home.

Amazing sandwiches!!! They use fresh ingredients, delicious bread and I love their Italian dressing. The portions are HUGE!

City Sandwich Company sandwiches are awesome. Being a huge fan of New York pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, I thoroughly enjoy City Sandwich Company sandwiches. I typically order the #9 (Pastrami, Onion, Mustard and Provolone on Rye bread). It's fabulous. She is generous with the meat and the bread is soft and delicious. Great place for lunch, or whenever you want fantastic sandwich. You can dine in or take-out. Plenty of street parking. You may have to pay for parking during business hours.

I have been here a couple of times, and there is a reason why. The sandwiches are some of the best you can find in the metro area in my opinion. This is a small space, but it's decorated really neat. They have a pretty large menu, but are famous for their egg salad I am told, I will get that next time. I came in for a pastrami sandwich but had my dreams crushed when she told me they were out! I went with a turkey and ham on sourdough, and let me tell you... they stack these sandwiches! I could hardly fit it in my mouth! The ingredients are fresh, the bread is fresh, and the quality is just exceptional. I had a cup of chicken wild rice soup to go with it and the soup was so good as well! If you're in the area you gotta stop in!

Went to City Sandwich for a lunch meeting and was stunned by how busy the place was for a Monday at noon in Vancouver. They could have benefited from a revolving door there were so many people coming and going! That said, I'm unsure what the hype is about. It's fine food, but nothing special enough to draw that kind of crowd. Staff interaction was awkward from the get-go. First, I approached the counter and was told to wait a moment until the cashier was finished writing the previous ticket. No problem. Before the first person could finish their work, someone else came to take my order. I asked for a basic sandwich from their menu on sourdough. Those basic details were quickly forgotten. The staffer tried repeating my order to me three times and got it wrong each time. Finally, a cook told the front of house staff to forget it because the kitchen heard my order and was already make it. The food was fresh but expensive. I had the #5 Italy just by itself and the total was more than $14 plus tip. My friend only ate half of his sandwich and they wrapped the rest for him in a to-go wrapper. Better than a box in my mind. Sitting down to eat, the tables were old and had major wobbles to them. The ones that didn't wobble had wads of napkins jammed under their feet. Not the best dining experience. Also - I don't know the story behind it - but there's a big mirror and a mannequin on one wall and a mural of the Twin Towers on the other wall? No idea what that's about.

The best sandwiches in town, and the ladies are so sweet. I could eat here every single day. The sourdough bread is like a magical pillow of carby goodness. Don't sleep on it!

#5 Italian sandwich on sourdough with a soda will put you out $18.50 before tipping. Absolutely delicious sandwich, fresh ingredients, and cozy environment. Wish it wasn't this pricey. Happy to support local establishments with quality food and service.

Couldn't resist -- I took a selfie while waiting for my egg salad sandwich

I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries, as did every other member of my group! It was exceptional. I think they have something magical that they put on top of that fried chicken just sort of sweet and delicious. We also ordered the little donuts and they were fried delicious nuggets of yumminess. I definitely want to go back.

DAIRY ALLERGY MISHANDLED -- WAITER LIED ABOUT CHECKING WITH THE KITCHEN…read more My girlfriend has a serious dairy allergy. Before she arrived, I spent time with our waiter going through the menu carefully -- no butter, no dairy, confirmed twice. He even went back to check with the kitchen and returned saying her meal was completely dairy free. It wasn't. Someone else at the table tasted the green beans and suspected butter. When I asked again, the waiter confirmed they'd been cooked in oil and butter -- after already telling us they were safe. By then the pork chop had been sitting on top of them and was contaminated. His response? "I can bring you another side." No offer to replace the meal. No offer to remove it from the check. Nothing. We had a show to catch at the Magenta Theater and no time to push it, so my girlfriend skipped dinner and grabbed something at Burgerville afterward -- she had a headache by the end of the show. The food and everything else about the evening was genuinely good. But between the false assurance, the contaminated meal, and the complete absence of any effort to make it right, I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone managing a food allergy -- and I'll be thinking hard before coming back myself.

It was relatively quiet for a Thursday at noon, but the area is undergoing major street improvements which is likely to affect crowds. It was open seating and we had plenty of choices to choose from. Service was prompt and guardedly friendly. I ordered the nachos because, when faced with a choice that includes nachos, I always choose nachos. They were on the cold side. As I got deeper into the nachos, I encountered a grey, slimy mush which I scraped off and ate around. We didn't have the menus any longer and I couldn't recall if it had beans or meat. I didn't mention it to our server because I wasn't able to look at the menu until I got home. I realize now that was supposed to be the guacamole. I'm all for reducing food waste and I know avocados are expensive, but this was not the nacho dish I thought I was paying for and not something I would want to eat again. We split our bill in half and noticed that there was an additional credit card surcharge on each of our slips. It was not called out to us when the we paid and neither of us could recall seeing that charge specified on the menu, but we didn't look that closely. Considering the other positive reviews, it's possible we hit an off day, but given our experience it's not likely I will return.

I have 2 friends that have been reluctant on this place from previous "not good" experiences, and they came with me and it made me sad!! Anyway, our server was so blah (Katelyn H), our water glasses had lipstick marks, I asked her for new ones, she seemed to have forgotten or something so I asked the bartender (which is so sweet!) then our server heard me and grabbed glasses and handed them to me. She didn't check if they were clean, and they weren't, friends were too thirsty to wait and wiped off the lip marks with their napkin. She didn't even bother to ask if the glasses were clean, and also never asked us if we needed anymore drinks (we ordered cocktails). When food arrived, I had to walk up to her to ask for small plates, as she just walked away after delivery. The calzones were burnt on the bottom, and the marinara was 100000% canned tomato paste and was cold. Work on that marinara. Ambiance was as it always is, super chill and welcoming. She was the only server but she could have led with that and made it a comfortable setting. (Towards the end I saw the bartender delivering plates and drinks).

It was a very filling meal. The service was top-notch. It was a Saturday at 11 AM. It was not packed but decently crowded, and all of the servers seemed to be on their game. The ambiance reminds me of an old-school deli. It was very clean, and there was ample seating. We've been wanting to try this place for awhile now, but it always looks so busy on the weekends,…read moreso we waited until we had a day off during the week. We arrived around 11:30 on a Wednesday. It was still pretty busy, and only two booths were open. We were first on the wait list. We only waited about 5 minutes for the host to clear the tables and set them. Staff was friendly and welcoming. You can tell it's a popular place by how busy it was on a weekday. This restaurant occupies an older building in downtown Vancouver. There is street parking available. It's a small establishment, but they do a great job of utilizing every inch. They even have a nice waiting area by the door with two long wooden benches. There are both table and chair seating, as well as a few booths. Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. We ordered the croissant club sandwich with fries and the triple play with half a reuben sandwich, Celtic Caesar salad and a cup of Irish stew. My hubby also asked for a side of bacon. The food came out rather quickly considering how busy they were. Everything we ordered we devoured. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. I added avocado to my club sandwich and it was so yummy! Prices are more than reasonable compared to other establishments. You get a generous portion as well. Overall we were happy with the service, food and prices. We'll definitely return to try their breakfast options. Everything looked so appealing as it came out of the kitchen. Would highly recommend!
