There is a choice given of home fries or you can choose toast or biscuit I think it is for the bread. Everything was amazing, delicious, and enjoyed very much. I chose an oat-milk chai and was not disappointed. For a restaurant presented as a French bistro, I was surprised that there wasn't a single quiche on the menu. I almost ordered the BLT, but I wanted to try something different, so I chose the west coast salmon benedict with provençal potatoes and butternut squash. The hollandaise was tasty, but the benedict itself was mixed for me. It was served on a sliced croissant, which sounded appealing but wasn't sturdy enough for the toppings and quickly became soggy. Thankfully, I had removed the top half and eaten it separately. I was also expecting the thin slices of smoked salmon you might find on a bagel, but instead received a salmon fillet whose smoked flavor was barely noticeable -- perhaps the Hollandaise overwhelmed it. The butternut squash was delicious and outshined the potatoes by several miles. I wish I had asked for an entire side of squash bc some of the potatoes tasted stale, much like McDonald's fries that have been sitting around for a few hours. My daughter ordered the risotto cakes and eggs, which also made me question the "French bistro" identity, since risotto is Italian. SIL had the corned beef hash. Hubby ordered the chef's omelet with a side of bacon. And the grandbabies had pancakes, bacon, and eggs. My family makes it very obvious when food is delicious: lots of nodding, happy sighs, "You need to try this," or completely cleaned plates. Breakfast did not produce any of that. As our server was preparing to close out the tab, we asked for the dessert menu so we can sing happy birthday to one of our grandbabies. We ordered the Versailles cake and a pavlova. The Versailles was the definite winner. Suddenly, there were the yum sounds and the "You need to try this" comments. We all agreed that its light texture and coffee chocolate flavor were wonderfully similar to our beloved cappuccino mousse cake from Schubert's Bakery SF. It wasn't overly sweet, and the velvety dark-chocolate ganache was delicious. I enjoyed it so much that I went home and immediately searched for a Versailles cake recipe, only to discover that "Versailles" apparently isn't an established French dessert, but La Provence's name for its chocolate sponge layered with vanilla, coffee, and dark chocolate mousses. The pavlova was enjoyable, but it inspired nowhere near the enthusiasm of the Versailles. Between the polenta, risotto, pesto, burrata, mascarpone, tiramisu, avocado toast, corned beef hash, Benedicts, and conspicuous absence of quiche, I left wondering how much of the actual menu is French. There are certainly French ingredients, sauces, pastries, and techniques, but the overall experience felt more like a Pacific Northwest brunch café with French and Italian influences than a true French bistro. Would I return when visiting our daughter and her family? Not on my own accord. If the family chose it, I would definitely go, but I would adjust my expectations and not think of it as a French bistro, order an oat chai, request extra butternut squash, and save plenty of room for the Versailles.

When one walks in, the waiting area has a glass pain which gives an open view into the grill area, a popular chic vibe. The ceilings are high, there are brick walls, air conditioning ducts which run along the ceiling totally exposed, and a bar as the centerpiece of the restaurant. They pull their goal at chic ambiance off well: 5 star. Cecilia also makes a strong marketing effort to the weekend brunch crowd that likes to have a morning fufu alcohol drink as a little remedy for the ole "have a bit of the snake that bit you last night". That is to say they promote a variety of house cocktails that are both rather sweet and attractive to the eye. I feel they pull this off extremely well - delivering what they promote - although I did not indulge. Again, a 5 star performance. As for the service, I would say it was subpar, especially for a restaurant which bills itself as a high end breakfast spot. I had no reservation, asked how long the wait would be, they told me 25 minutes and the actual wait was 45 minutes. Not a good start: 20 minutes off is significant. I ran a restaurant. If you are going to be off, err on the conservative side: tell one an hour and have them sit in 45. If they decide to stay they will appreciate the effort. If they decide to leave, they will not hold it against management but will rather realize next time one should make a reservation. Speaks to bad management. As for the actual service, the waitress had virtually zero character, barely checked on us during the meal - although walked by us a number of times - and it took a long time for our plates to be cleared and the check to be delivered. Service rated a 2 star, and that is being generous. Finally, the food. I was extremely disappointed. Note I went here with high expectations. I left with a low level of gastronomic satisfaction. I ordered the eggs benedict. I tend to order this in a good restaurant because I do not make it at home and it is a great breakfast treat of done well. As for this rendition, mixed review. The pastry it was served on was a delicate, layered pastry which was very good. However, the two eggs were way overcooked to the point that the yolk was virtually all cooked. Most certainly not the way an egg benedict should be prepared. As for the side of potatoes: I frequently cook potatoes with my breakfast - mine blow these away. Not hard to make good potatoes, these were not those. My ladies breakfast was a huge disappointment. It read great and unique on the menu. A shrimp omelette. However, when it was delivered and cut into massive amount of a liquid which almost resembled water filled the plate: talk about unappetizing. Then the contents. They shrimp were the cheap, tasteless, tiny bay shrimp. Talk about no pride in quality of food and quality not rising to the marketing thereof: abysmal effort. An establishment trying to market themselves as a foodie place should use medium to large, quality shrimp which taste like shrimp- not the low end, tasteless shrimp stuffed into these eggs. This omelette would have trouble competing with an omelette at a local diner. I would never serve a house guest such a poor specimen, but then I take pride in my cooking: I do not believe Cecilia's does. As for food, given what they market themselves as - a menu which screams out that we are serious about our food: I rate it as diner food outside of the biscuit and one huge disappointment. In summary, I believe for the person who is trying to impress a guest with ambiance and the quality of food is not that important, go for it because Cecilia's is a good fit. For the patron that enjoys atmosphere, Cecilia's is a good stop. For the patron who likes a good alcoholic drink for brunch, highly recommend. For those patrons who are seeking a solid foodie experience or whom value good table service, Cecilia will deliver a big disappointment.
