A hidden gem! Somehow, I had never heard of this place but during a Yelp search for breakfast this morning, I found it and thought it sounded good. I was surprised to find them not too busy at 8:30 on a Sunday morning, but noted over the hour I was there, more and more people came in. I had trouble deciding and asked our server Aida, for some recommendations. I ended up ordering a vegetable omelet, with Home Style home fries and pancakes. This was an enormous meal, easy to share with one or two others. The omelet is made with 4 eggs and prepared thin-style (skinny omelet) and included sautéed mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and spinach. Cheddar is the standard but they will substitute cheeses. The home style home fries were beautifully fried and had onions and bell peppers with cheese melted on top (+$3 up-charge). The two pancakes I upgraded toast from (+2) were really good. This meal will be at least 3 meals for me. My grandson really wanted a waffle and unfortunately they don't offer waffles on the kids menu. He loved his waffle and I've got to say it looked amazing! The kids menu is well-priced, including the beverages with kids milk offered for just $1.99. Coffee came in a lovely tall coffee mug and it was pretty good. Used to really look forward to eating at Valerie's but it seems to have been slowly sliding downhill since we moved here 3 years ago. The tots are still potato greatness. However, I can't see going here when my turkey sausage and over medium eggs were flavorless and cost $16. My BF poured maple syrup on everything to get it to have flavor: on his scrambled eggs and the sausage patties in addition to his French toast. If you look at my earlier pics, the toast has gotten thinner and overall the food just looked... tired. The waitress was equally tired. It took her 5 - 10 minutes to come take our order. One of the hostesses had to come reassure us that she was on her way. When she did, she was utterly cheerless and seemed really bummed out to be there. My coworker and I decided to stop here for lunch at 1:00PM on a Wednesday. We were greeted, taken to our table and ordered our drinks. My coworker ordered the carnitas hash skillet. It was pretty yummy. Very flavorful. However, the potatoes were a bit undercooked. I ordered the Big Breakfast that included two eggs over easy, some hash browns and a kielbasa sausage. Sadly it doesn't a not the same now since Valerie retired and sold the business. The plate size is small now prices went way up and breakfast is just ok tasting. I had very little hash browns, a clunp of congealed cheese on my ham scramble. Pros-the waitress was nice, the pictures are nice on the walls and the coffee is big mugs filled often. In summary just an ok place now. Food is ok. Stardust diner is a much better place if you're looking for an alternate spot. read more

If you are looking for a great breakfast restaurant, Breakfast at Valerie's is a great choice. Met here for breakfast with a friend. I of course zeroed in on the Meat Lovers Skillet. They have a great menu, so it sometimes hard to decide what to order. It is also important to note you definitely need a good appetite when you come, their servings are very generous. I've been in here a few times and ihad held off writing a review until now. The ambience and decor is very open concept diner, mostly with tables. This place is almost always buzzing with people eating here, and there is often a wait in the morning. I ordered one of their loaded omelettes (the chili one) but I've also had their chicken fried steak in the past as well as their sides (toast, eggs, pancakes). The omelets are good sized and affordable. They are flavorful and very filling. The pancakes are soft and buttery and the chicken fried steak is okay (it's clearly frozen and deep fried to order, as it has that basic packet white gravy. The food here tends to be on the underseasoned side, probably because most of their regulars are senior citizens. That being said, it's relatively affordable and very filling. The parking can be a bit tight and if you come in the morning expect a wait for a table. I think that for what it is, it does a good job. We were in the area and remembered Valerie's so instead of going across the road, we thought we'd give it a try again. Boy! Things have really gone up but I guess everything has. One of us ordered a breakfast item. It came with meat but opted out of it. Noticed the ticket didn't reflect that no meat was served. Breakfast other than that was good. They also have a BLTA sandwich with fries. Lettuce was limp but there were a lot of bacon and avocado on the sandwich. It was very good. Fries were good but very few of them for a side. The thing we really disliked was a group of 8 were seated in the middle of the restaurant. They were so loud and their voices carried. We could hardly talk to each other. It was really noisy. We hadn't eaten so we tried. Service and some of the food. My partner did not like the biscuits and gravy and the eggs were supposed to be over medium and the whites were runny. When we finally got our servers attention she brought her something else but it took along time to literally flag her down and another server just ignored us and I know she saw me with my arm up. But we were not her table. We went there to meet up with family the morning after a relative passed away. There were 11 of us. We ate and were still talking and drinking coffee. I almost never leave reviews. I had a Denver omelette like I do everywhere I go. I swear it was 90% filled with undercooked green pepper. Almost NO cheese, barely any ham, and very oily eggs. My fiancé and I have been here in the past and we love it. Today - it's 8:20am on Friday, not busy. Only seven people at the time. When it was time to get our food - I order diced ham with scrambled eggs, red potatoes, sausage links and toast. My food was cold. The potatoes tasted like they were from the day before. Some were soggy/some had a crunch, not fully cooked. The toast was burnt and cold.. my eggs.. I have nothing to say. Sausage links were warm at least. Since the founder retired (Valerie) a year plus ago, steadily declining food quality and portions. Today was the last visit, it's not as good as it used to be. If you've been reading reviews then you must know by now that this beloved restaurant has changed owners. I think the only way to fairly review Breakfast at Valerie's is to review it as a brand new restaurant and not compare it to its former glory. The dining area is clean and open in this wait-to-be-seated breakfast and lunch diner. Booths line the walls with tables in the center of the floor, or you can belly up to the breakfast bar in the back. The furniture and decor lack any distinct personality. It's all clean lines and minimal, but the vibe from the patrons and staff is cheery and friendly. The menu is extensive, with a wide array of American breakfast and lunch fare. Multiple varieties of omelettes, waffles, pancakes, sandwiches, and salads. Prices are on the high side of medium, and the portion sizes are "just right". My husband was disappointed in the size of his country fried steak and eggs breakfast, but later commented that it was "just right" and that he didn't feel weighed down or overly full. My husband had eggs over medium and I had mine poached. The eggs were cooked perfectly! Absolutely perfectly. The rest of the food was not outstanding, but tasty. If you told me the sausage gravy and the hollandaise sauce came prepackaged - I'd believe you. It probably did. The coffee was hot and good. No fresh creamer available; only the shelf stable international delights on the table. The server offered us milk as an alternative which I thought was nice of her. In fact, she was wonderful all morning. When we had finished our meal she offered our coffee in to go cups and topped them off generously at the end as well as throughout the meal. We commented on her timely coffee refreshes and it was then that she pointed out the coffee is $4 a cup! She said she wanted to be sure we had our fill of coffee and got our money's worth. We did! We're looking for a new place to be "our" breakfast place and we traveled about 45 minutes to try Breakfast at Valerie's. I would say it probably isn't worth a 45 minute drive, but I can only hope that when we do find a special place for breakfast that the staff will be as attentive and charming as they were at Breakfast at Valerie's. I've been a customer here for several years and have consistently placed pickup orders without being required to prepay. As someone who is disabled, this has always been important to me, I'm unable to wait for long periods due to chronic pain, which is why I order ahead and often pay in cash upon arrival. During my most recent order, I was told that paying at pickup was no longer allowed and that all orders had "always" required prepayment. That statement simply isn't accurate based on my past experiences. When I asked to speak with a manager to explain my situation, the interaction became disappointing. I clearly communicated that my preorder process is an accessibility need, not a convenience, yet the response I received was dismissive and lacked empathy. Being told, essentially, that accommodating a long-time disabled customer did not matter, as long as internal policy was followed,was disheartening. I understand businesses have policies, but how those policies are communicated and whether staff show basic respect and consideration makes a significant difference. As I said in my previous reviews, we love breakfast at Valerie's! It is our go to for a wonderful service, excellent food, bright and clean atmosphere. This time my son had a feast. He had the ham steak with eggs and hashbrowns. Plus French toast on the side :-) the steak is thick and grilled perfectly. He always loves the crispy hashbrowns. Eggs perfect. I got a grilled ham and cheese today with a side salad and blue cheese dressing. Salad was fresh and tasty dressing very good. I had to have a cheese grilled on sourdough. Came out perfectly grilled with melted cheese. The service here today and every time, has been Five Star's. They take care of you and check back to make sure you have what you need. Portions are huge and food is affordable at Breakfast at Valerie's. They serve classic American breakfast with so many options from pancakes to omelette. If you come on weekends, be ready for a wait. I ordered The Perfect Breakfast which lets you customize what you want for your meal. You get to choose a meat, a bread (toast, waffle, crepes, pancake, biscuits & gravy), eggs and potatoes. I got the German sausage, home fries, waffle, and sunny side up eggs. I really liked their waffle and eggs. The German sausage was good, the home fries were a little dry.
