We sat at a table because at the time all the booths were occupied. The place has ample room for occupancy. On the table was a regular menu and a winter menu. The lemon blueberry French toast ordered was from the winter menu and the strawberry waffle combo was ordered from the regular menu. Both dishes were plentiful and delicious! Kudos to the chef. I ordered The Perfect Breakfast which lets you customize what you want for your meal. You get to choose a meat, a bread (toast, waffle, crepes, pancake, biscuits & gravy), eggs and potatoes. The service staff was slow, unattentive and unfriendly. I had to go to the counter to get my bill and had to wait over 5 minutes while the staff stood around and chatted with each other. Where do I even begin? My first issue was when the waitress showed up but then said "oh sorry someone else came here first." and then just left. The food actually tastes worse than food I can make at home by myself. The bacon was burnt and so were my mother's potatoes. My mom told me that the coffee tasted like dishwater and she brought us 2 cups when my mother asked for one cup. I don't like hot coffee so she had to drink both of them. After dropping off a family member at the airport in Portland on our way home we swung by Valeries for some brunch. It didn't disappoint. We had to wait about 20 min to be seated. They did seem a little short staffed but that seems to be the case everywhere. The service was great, our server was kind and quick to get our drinks. My kids ordered the chocolate pancakes, which they devoured. I had the combo breakfast, which gave me choices of various breakfast items. I choose two eggs over easy, hashbrowns, a sausage patty and the cinnamon French toast. I would highly recommend the French toast that was the highlight for me. This place has really tanked since changing owners. We used to come here all the time. The ambiance and become very loud and "cold" feeling. The staff are nice enough but I would not say overly welcoming. We sat at the bar and our service was minimal at best. The phone was ringing off the hook with no one answering. Visiting Portland Oregon and on my way to Vancouver Canada...we stopped to grab a bite at a local spot. Today, I will share my visit to Breakfast at Valerie's in Vancouver Washington. To start off parking is terrible and limited. The setting is large open space much like a large dining hall with tables at the center and booths on the outer edges. Full house, seems like a popular spot...downside is the guest per server ratio. Good 75+ folks and only two servers. Didn't have to wait long to be seated but did wait over 10 minutes to have someone come over and ask about what we wanted to drink. Hostess and bus boy are very good at their jobs. The menu has a decent selection and you can pick from breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you are a mashed potatoes person...too bad they no longer have them. Didn't get a picture of the pork chops because my mother doesn't like me taking pictures of her food but honestly they were very good, cooked perfectly and juicy with great taste. The country fries however were not that good. The restrooms are clean and limited to one stall but over all good. The ambiance is decent and you can actually have a conversation with your party. I don't think the food was worth the price but we are in a recession and inflation is real. I won't be returning but I do recommend you give it a try and try the pork chops (my mother gave them a smiling thumbs up) read more

My bestest ever place for breakfast - and that's a high bar. I love their Perfect breakfast choice - it's everything your way - $12.95 (Oct 22) choose from 9 options of meats (including CFS) 2 Choices of potatoes (I recommend the home fries) 7 choices of breads (including biscuits and gravy) 2 eggs - your way I went with the country fried steak, home fries, biscuits and gravy and eggs over easy. I was amazed at the amount of food that came to the table, really hot and very tasty. I will probably choose something else on the breads, as biscuits and gravy was more than I could finish with everything else on the plate. Our friend had the small biscuits and gravy - 4 biscuit halves smothered in gravy - mine was half that. She couldn't imagine getting more than that. My wife also went with the CFS, Hashbrowns, pancakes and eggs over easy. The pancakes weren't quite the over the side of the plate size of their bigger pancakes however they did fill the plate. She was very happy. For lighter eaters, they make just about everything available as a side order - so you might start with one of these and supplement it a bit to make sure there is enough of what everyone wants to feed two. On Sunday morning at 10:45 there was a 30+ minute wait - which isn't a surprise. While we found parking, it took a bit of looking. I saw the burgers and onion rings at a table near me and I know what I'll be having when we go there for lunch. Service is top notch. Place is clean, comfortable, large, a lot of people enjoying their meals so the conversations are a bit louder than at some other places. I definitely recommend this. read more

Walked in with a large group and the staff refused to seat us until over half our party was there. Then we ended up waiting 45 minutes to be seated SEPARATELY. The waitress was nice, but not attentive at all we had to ask 4 times for water and they seemed annoyed to be tending to our group. The food was okay, but pricey as I got 2 slices of French toast for 11.99. Gratuity was included and it really felt like they didn't care because they knew they were getting a tip regardless. I met a friend here, and it was quite busy. After about a 30 minute wait (thank goodness it was nice outside) we were called to our table. I ordered a patty melt with fries and a side salad with French dressing. The service was friendly, fast and the staff appeared to all be wearing masks and gloves. The salad was good, if a bit plain. The dressing was nice and tangy. The patty melt was also good, but both the patty and the grilled bread were a bit overdone for my tastes. The fries were just okay, not remarkable. I used to love this place. ALWAYS recommended it and held it in high regard. After visiting (post ownership change), I cannot say I will anymore. It's okay. That's it. I was so excited to check out Valerie's after seeing the great reviews. It was one of the few places in Vancouver open before 8 am, so I was sold. Upon arrival, my group was ignored by various staff members while we waited at the front to be seated. We didn't even get a, "I'll be with you in just a moment." Once we were seated, our server wasn't very friendly and almost seemed short with us. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The food itself wasn't great. My friend ordered her steak rare, and it was well-done. My eggs Benedict was okay but not great. Also, home fries as a side is just steak fries cut up into small bites. I didn't enjoy eating them with my breakfast. Portion size was huge (3 poached eggs) and priced reasonably at $11.95. I don't think Valerie's is my cup of tea, but if you're looking for massive portion sizes for breakfast and aren't as concerned with taste or quality, this could be a good option for you. read more

Small spot but great for locals in my opinion. Looks like some updates were done with the paint and decor. The waiter was nice but recommended to drink water. Not sure why you would advise that but I later ordered an apple juice which was good. The waiter may sent both sour and fries but only fries were asked for. It might be best to not be too familiar with people you have never met and simply tale the order that is provided to you. Otherwise, the food was good. I would return. I came in around 10am on Mmmm day morning. The place was pretty packed with people waiting. I sat at the bar/counter and was quickly served some water and given a menu. I chose the perfect breakfast with bacon, eggs of easy, hash browns and pancakes. The breakfast was pretty decent. The eggs tasted good, the bacon was a little fatty, the hash browns were pretty good and the pancakes were delicious and huge!! Overall, not a bad breakfast. I could not eat all of it. My partner and I decided to give this place a visit this past Saturday for two reasons: First, we are very early morning folks and they are open at 6 AM (score). Second, they had a decent rating on Google and Yelp. When we walked in the visual impression of the environment left a lot to be desired. In the long haul of the space it felt like after throwing a ton of kitchy signs up behind the counter (granted some of them are really funny) they got overwhelmed. While this made me pause, I decided to give them a try anyway since we were there for the food. I should have trusted my first instincts. The options on the menu were plenty and my partner and I both went for the breakfast combos: cinnamon french toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon. What we got was cold to luke warm french toast with a bunch of cinnamon all over it (it literally made me cough, there was so much); flavorless scrambled eggs (glad there was hot sauce on the table); and hard as a rock bacon (neither of us could get through more than a piece). The service was, well, chaotic. One person sat us (more live waved us over from across the long room and walked away), another brought us water, another said she would be right back to get our order, and then yet another was the one to finally get our order (and she seemed either new or just really skiddish). I truly do not understand the appeal of this place. We weren't asking for much and frequent places like Stardust Diner and Sunny's Diner. This is neither of those. We'll be waiting until 7 AM until one of these open in the future. read more

But below average is really disappointing when entrees are $16. We were laughing on the way home about how bad this place was. Wow. What a great find. First time here and we had a wonderful experience with food and service. The place was spacious, clean and organized. Does not look fancy at all from the outside but the food was amazing. The pancakes were fluffy and serving size was shareable. We enjoyed every bite and are excited to come back. They're in the middle of no where and the atmosphere and location make me nervous but here it is comforting, everyone is nice and the food was amazing!
