Shopping and hunger struck, Panera's, Pick 2 sounds like a winner! They had added a new sandwich since the last time we were there. " Classic Grilled Cheese " . Now what could be better with a cup of soup, a hot gooey grilled cheese sandwich? Not what arrived at our table, sandwich was toasted bread with cheese on one slice of bread toasted under a salamander and then assembled. Classic to me means cheese between two pieces of bread slathered with butter and Grilled on the flat top till golden brown with cheese oozing out the sides. Panera used to be a go-to lunch spot, looks like the competition is going to edge this outfit out. read more

Stopped at Panera for lunch while out and about running errands the other day. I really used to like this place, but not sure I'll bother to darken their doorstep in the future. My dining partner ordered the strawberry poppyseed salad. They were out of strawberries. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich which I always enjoy because they don't put onions in their tuna salad. The sandwich comes with a side--chips, an apple, or bread. I can't wrap my head around why a restaurant would offer bread as a side to accompany a sandwich! Don't sandwiches already come on bread? I would have opted for the chips, but like the strawberries, they also had no chips! Perhaps they should post a sign that states "Many of our menu items may not be available" just to set expectations when you come in the door! Then when I went to pay, the point of sale tablet asked if I wanted to leave a tip. Now I never have a problem leaving a tip for good service, but at Panera, where is the service? Diners have to get their own drinks, pick up their own food when it's ready, then clear their table and dump their trash when done eating. I guess I should tip myself! The food service and retail businesses in this country have gone overboard on expecting tips when I don't feel they are warranted. Oh well, now that dining out has gotten so expensive, I spend far less of my income on eating in restaurants or ordering fast food. Panera used to be my favorite for grabbing a quick meal with some healthy options but the quality has gone down quiet a bit. I had the worst ever salad with the avocado pieces hard like a rock and one of them even has fungus on the back. Greens were tasteless too. Don't bother. The pepperoni pizza was inedible. My husband's French onion soup was flavorless and his chicken sandwich was dry.

Up until the last month or so I would have given this place a higher rating, but things have changed. I've been going through the drive thru for some time - mostly for pastry. The orange scones and cheese danishes were delicious. Now Panera is making them MUCH differently. For starters, the pastries now are about half the size that they were previously. Big ripoff. Secondly, they've altered the recipes drastically. The cheese danishes are no longer the traditional French puff pastry with cheese filling. It's more like a dollop of something less than good tasting cheese in a piece of baseball size brioche. The now tiny orange scones don't even have that wonderful orange icing covering the whole top. Instead there's just a little piping of something less than orange icing on it. I would imagine Paneras nationally are doing the same thing. It would appear greed has gotten the better of them. It's a shame they've ruined their great pastries. Additionally, the people at the drive thru window have screwed up my orders multiple times. Last time, they charged me for and gave me somebody else's order. The line for the drive thru was so long, I had to park, go inside, and wait through THAT long line to get the right order. They were nice about it. They gave me my order and let me keep the wrong one. But still, it would have better to have gotten it right the first time. Another time I ordered 4 blueberry bagels and instead I found that they had given me 4 blueberry muffins. Now we all know it's such an easy mistake what with "bagels" sounding so much like "muffins," right? And on and on. Check the order before your leave! I ordered online 6 bagels, sliced to pick up. Even though I had paid on line, I still had to wait in line to be served. When my turn came, I gave the young woman my name and described the order. She went to the kitchen and returned with a bag. I asked if the bagels had been sliced, and she assured me that she had seen them being packed and that they had been sliced. The bag was sealed with tape, so I took her word for the slicing. Being a snob when it comes to chain restaurants, I was reluctant to try Panera. The kids, our friends, our family all said it was great. FINE!!! We went for lunch and there was a line. It moved very quick and we were soon at the front where I ordered soup and a sandwich. Being seated and drinks in hand, our order arrived quicker than I thought would (given the crowd) and the staff from start to finish were great! I tried to find fault but I honestly could not! After the meal was complete, we talked about other menu items to try upon a return visit. That should say something about the quality! Very good! Food was brought in a timely manner , the restrooms are clean but they definitely need to fix the sensor in the sink . The one where you wave your hand and water is suppose to come out.. Here is my story of this typical chain restaurant, it's my story and I'm sticking to it! We have a big group of 9 people and I see the manager motion to put more cashiers to take our order. Everyone placed their order and went to grab a seat. 10-15 minutes later, here comes the food, really quick turnover for a little after lunch timing. The Panini was good, and the cheddar and broccoli soup was on point! Everyone was fed and we were on our way, made for a great stop with a big group pleasant, thanks Panera! I sent the following to Panera Customer Service last night. I'm awaiting a response. "I got a coffee with my coffee subscription like I've done maybe dozens of times before. I got it from a kiosk. I had been told in the past by a manager that I didn't have to wait on line for a refill and to just go to the pickup window and ask. This time, Staff Supervisor, Justin said I had to wait on line so they could keep track and that I only get 1 coffee every two hours. I told him this was wrong for dine in, contrary to how the subscription is, and has always been. This is infuriating. If the vats of coffee were out, people would not have to wait on line for five to ten minutes to get a refill. And how could this be a method of keeping track? If you ordered a coffee with the subscription for dine in, there is no way mark in your account that you're getting a refill. When I went to the register after he said I had to to get the refill, this is what the woman at the register said and what anyone can see when you go into your account. This is probably 5-10 minutes after I first requested the refill. So then she had to get Justin who then told me how I only get one coffee every two hours and I told him he was absolutely wrong for dine in. He said he'd bring me out a refill as if he was doing me a favor. If he had ever read anything at all related to the coffee subscription, he would know this is not how it is. AND HE'S A STAFF SUPERVISOR? IT'S MY FIRM OPINION THAT HE SHOULD NOT BE. And then when I got the coffee - no one brought it out, it had almost no almond milk, absolutely no ice, and no sugar. Each of the dozens of times I've gotten them, I ask for a little ice, almond milk, and two brown sugar packets. It's important you know, that when this happened, there could not have been more than 6 customers in the place. If you continue to keep Justin as a supervisor, I'm sure that number can get down to zero. I am disgusted." To make matters worse (after writing the above email) - because I was angry I got a third coffee. He made me wait longer than I had ever had to wait for an iced coffee. I counted 5 customers in the place and one car in the drive through after I immediately left. I previously had problems with him when he left me standing at the register for 3-5 minutes - with him and others looking at me - but never acknowledging me or taking my order. I had to shout to someone and ask if anyone is going to take my order. Again, the place was pretty empty. This is why I started doing it myself at the kiosk. This was certainly his intention. Customers normally write here how the review should be zero - but after years of having internet speeds reminiscent of the 1990s, they finally got modern internet speed - so the 1 star may be deserved. I had literally the worst experience at this Panera bread this morning. They advertise with signs along the road declaring they're open for business and to come in and enjoy their food. They made me feel so unwelcome coming this morning. The lady who took my order was rude to me, the woman who is making my food was rude. I was politely social distancing waiting for my food to come up and she shouted at me to go take a seat. I kind me replied I was waiting for my food to come. If they want to have a contact-less experience I don't understand why they gave all the customers a buzzer which has been touched by everybody. Panera if you don't want to be open for diners then don't advertise it!!!!!!!!!!! are used to come here with my family for times a week I will now take my business to another restaurant that appreciates my business and money. read more

This location is a busy location so much so I had to sit outside. Not bad on a good day but on a day with bad weather you may need to take your food and good. Staff is friendly and attentive to the guests. Food is fresh and tasty and always same quality from location to location. I tried a new sandwich this time and was not disappointed. The quality of the food this Panera makes it good. That's what I need to say before I start my mini rant. My girlfriend was sick and wanted soup, so I headed to Panera to pick some up. I go through the drive through at 10:10 AM and was told soups wouldn't be ready until 10:15. Okay I'll wait in the parking lot - no worries. 10:15 comes around and I wait in line to drive through. Upon reaching the window, I'm told by a new voice in the drive through that soups will be ready at 10:30. Frustrated but having worked in the food industry I get it, so I drive around and wait. Third time with an even longer line I go through and am told by a third voice that soups would be ready at 11:00 AM, with it now being 10:30. I call my girlfriend and let her know that soups won't be ready till 11:00 and she says it's fine, then changes her order. I decide to go inside and pick up the food this time. As I'm ordering, I hear two separate orders of soup being made at the front, and even one asking if it's ready - which they are told it is. Mind you this is at 10:38 AM. So I order soup and other food, and low and behold it is ready. I leave exactly at 11:00 AM. For a Panera the food is good. The service is garbage. It has been every time I come here whether I'm dining in, doing take out, or going through the drive through. I stopped going here because of the terrible service, as what you see above is about every experience I have here. Decent food with constant bottom level service. My honest advice, if you are in Santa Fe and need soup - go to any grocery store and spare yourself the trouble. read more

Its the next day and I'm still waiting for someone to jump out from behind a curtain and yell, "you're on Candid Camera!" and then give me money back or travel me back in time where I can make a better food decision. Another weird experience here.... Went to the door at 7:45 pm on a cold night craving some hot soup and found note on the door that said," OUT OF BREAD, CLOSED EARLY." Numerous cars were pulling up to barricaded drive up leaving disappointed. I called the store and spoke to acting manager, Matt telling him I only wanted soup not bread. He refused to sell me any food, said he made the decision to close the whole store early instead. He gave every illogical excuse, escalating unprofessionally and hung up on me 3 times. His defensiveness proved his incompetence. I tried to explain it was the customers' choice to select alternatives to bread, not his but he ranted like a child dismissing my complaint as the "only one." I told him to look outside and see all the business he was losing. He didn't care, he just wanted to go home early at the expense of a customers. Unqualified people put in charge like this are a reflection of bad upper management. I asked for GM and DM to call me, no one has. Sadly, people this immature and incompetent don't make only 1 bad decision. Just because they are the only store in Santa Fe, they are the busiest in the state which they're taking for granted. Food is good, but the service is not that great. Cashiers hardly acknowledge you when your standing right in front of them. They have installed kiosk to order food, but have never actually activated them. The kiosks have been sitting just taking up space for a few months now. We visit different Panera's pretty often as it is one of our favorite places to eat. This experience, which was an out of town one for us during a road trip was one of the best. The line was long when we first entered, as it was lunch hour which got us nervous as we wanted to get back on the road sooner than later. Much to our pleasure, the line moved very quickly and we got our order placed within 5 minutes. After that, the tables we found to sit at were very clean and the booth we choose had a GPS (as did every table) which we had never seen before! This way, when the food was ready they knew exactly where you were sitting and delivered the food right to us without calling out our name. The food was warm and of course delicious as it usually always is at any Panera! To top it off, as I was throwing our trash and cleaning our plates at the discard station an employee came up within seconds and asked if he could help and finish that for me. A+ customer service and a great overall experience! read more

Its been a while since I've been to a Panera Bread but I noticed that their slogan is "our food is clean". As opposed to what, dirty? I'm assuming they're referring to the food being somewhat better for you than other places. I had a steak and egg sandwich which was good but the meat was in one big slice and was hard to chew through. It was on the rare side too because it was still bleeding. Practically everyone was drinking coffee but the staff were a bit slow on refilling the pots. My companion had a couple of pastries and with the coffee and sandwich, the bill was about $20. As someone with a serious addiction to salads, sandwiches, and fresh bread, I spend a large chunk of my yearly salary at this particular location. I have a strong suspicion that the employees have been trained to manipulate addicts like me into purchasing add ons including but not limited to: various delicious pastries, bread that they will slice for you right before your eyes, and meals to take home. The crunchiness of the baguettes compliment the soft decadent interior in such a way that I have often been found, in bed, snacking on baguette slices like a dirty sewer rat. Panera Bread in general is a great place however like many chains that come to Santa Fe it is plagued by poor management. One person working at the register while there are 6 preparing food, laughing and talking to each other. One is even drinking a soda while he cooks and I am pretty sure that is a health code violation. There is food all over the counters. The staff all have dirty aprons on. A woman is walking around I assume it is the manager since she is doing absolutely nothing that looks like work at all but seems very annoyed and she starts yelling for the poor cashier who went to get a drink for a customer who asked for just tea then after she paid decided she wanted something else. God forbid she start using a cash register to take an order instead of getting mad he left the register to help a customer. You can tell by looking at her she is lazy and unpleasant. Anyways I liked the hibiscus tea and the broccoli cheddar soup. I thought the bacon turkey sandwich was bland. I thought the cobb salad was even blander. And the shrimp noodle salad was devoid of taste. My friend agreed across the board. I had never heard of this chain before they opened up and the preview reviews from people who had eaten at other locations was pretty good. So yes, I'm disappointed and won't be coming back. I was soooo excited when I would drive down Zafarano and see this place being built. My kids were excited, too. We used to eat at Panera Bread in Denver and go out of our way to find one off I-25 in Colorado Springs, just to experience their delicious pastries, clean dining atmosphere, and plethora of seemingly healthy, family-friendly fare that always tasted fresh-made and yummy. Well, welcome to the world of disappointment and disillusion. I don't know if it's the curse of Santa Fe chain restaurants or what, but this place has been a huge let-down. The first time we went, we ordered sandwiches, for which I had to wait HALF AN HOUR. I went up once to the counter to inquire about my meal and was brusquely noticed by a cook who snapped, "Just a minute. We are really busy." Um, yeah, I could see that by the long line of people, but did it really take that long to make a bowl of pasta and a couple of sandwiches? I slunked back to my table and played some games with my hungry children to distract them and stop the endless questions of when was our food getting here. Finally, I got a waitress' attention and asked her. She checked on our meals and returned five minutes later with them plus profuse apologies. I checked the order. They got it wrong and omitted one meal. Back she goes. Back she comes. We munch hungrily. The sandwiches were bland, unappetizing to look at, and - surprise! - 95% bread!! I thought to myself, "Hmm. Maybe that was just an off day for them. After all, they are very new and I really like Panera Bread!" So, I gave them another chance. The second visit, we ordered the pesto pasta, a turkey sandwich, a children's grilled cheese, and a Caesar salad. I swear . . . that child's grilled cheese looked like two slices of brown bread glued together by an almost undetectable smear of cheese product. My six year old tossed it aside after two bites. Chiding her, I tasted it. Horrible. My 12 year old is forcing the turkey sandwich down. I admit that it looked a little dry and chewy. Being the trooper that she is, she stops after five bites. Guess what we did to sate our appetites? Ordered cookies and pastries. At least they were tastier than the food, but only marginally. Whenever I suggest Panera Bread to the kids again, they plead, "No, Mama, please! Can't we go somewhere else?" And oh yeah . . . their Wi-Fi never works. This is my second review in the last 6 years. But.... This is the second time I've come in the last 24 hours. (Last night)After a 30 minute wait with almost no customers in sight my chicken tortellini Alfredo was simi-warm after eating the top layer of the pasta. It was just cold all the way to the bottom of the bowl. To top that off, at the bottom of the bowl there was uncooked pasta. Very disappointing. The next day(today) Currently eating my favorite meal again from Panera (chicken tortellini Alfredo). Happy to say it's doing a little better. But After a little wait which was okay at first, but then realized that 3 other guests were served there takeaway food before us. Their orders were much larger than our order. ( our ordered a BLT and a chicken tortellini Alfredo no drinks for take away) the guy behind the counter did put in a few extra goodies in the sack. We were very appreciative for that. Try putting some cheese on the Grilled Cheese sandwich. Usually, "Grilled Cheese" means there will be a little cheese, not just two pieces of grilled bread with a little orange paint sprayed on it. Man, that is cheap as hell of you. It really is. And when I ask for a latte in a FOR HERE cup, which I really like a lot better than the to go cups, PLEASE bring it to me in a FOR HERE cup.
