If you like bread and mac and cheese I suggest the bread bowl it makes it 10x better. You should get the mac and cheese. If I was on death row my last meal would be a Panera Bread Mac and Cheese and theres no que stion about it. Made a order a week ago on the app. Driver never brought drink, spoke with manager who advised it would be on next order. Ordered again today to not receive my drink again. Spoke with manager immediately after ordering online who stated he would advise driver. Never told him. So a week or so later I just get my apology and refund. Who cares it's a drink under $10, I do. Panera is as Panera does...and this Panera does just fine. I've been to probably 6 other Paneras in my life and this one is consistent with all the rest! Not necessarily any better, just the same. I always get the meal with 2 half-items (e.g. half sandwich and half soup) because it seems like the best value (but still isn't that cheap--around $7), and my orders have always been perfect the 4 or 5 times I've been here. Both lunch and dinner have been equally as good. All my food was hot and tasted fresh. I personally like the Sierra Turkey sandwich and french onion soup. If you like fresh (albeit commercialized) bakery items, this place has you covered! Plenty of cookies and other pastries as well as some breads. On top if that, they have other items that I would never get (e.g. smoothies) but might be good if you're in to that kind of thing. The atmosphere here is also very nice: plenty of booths, several 2 seater tables, and some large tables for groups. It also doesn't get too loud (except maybe at peak lunch times). My one complaint here (aside from the prices) that make me take a star off is the sometimes not-so-friendly customer service. Don't get me wrong, not all employees here are unfriendly, but many have been in the past. I take full advantage of the rapid online ordering even when I plan on eating in. My office is just about 10 minutes away from this location. The convenience of that service is so valuable that I will chose Panera over other places downtown. The parking is just ok. They are doing some work on one part of the building limiting parking even more, but if you just have to run in and out its not too bad. The food is always just so-so for some reason. I don't know they are too busy to handle with care, but my food always is presented better at the beach locations. Other than that it's exactly what you would expect from Panera. A solid chain restaurant, this particular one is no exception. Friendly staff and decent amount of seating. I love love love Panera, but I do not love this location. My issue with the location has nothing to do with the service but everything to do with the cleanliness. The bathroom is terrible, but you would never know unless you use it. Once you're in there you're asking yourself did I order from this place. That is my only issue with the place. I have always found this Panera to be good. The staff is friendly and relatively efficient and the food is always consistently good. I have a three-Panera rotation depending on the day and where I am heading and this one is in that rotation. I generally stick to just bagels and coffee because I have always found the breakfast sandwiches to be underwhelming. That isn't just this location, that is Panera in general. If you want a bagel or another pastry for breakfast, Panera is as good as it gets. As for lunch, I love Panera lunch where the variety steps up quite a bit. I'm a fan of this place - for one thing they have free WiFi and I LOVE free WiFi. They also have great salads, soups and sandwiches. They also have a section of bagels and different kinds of breads you can get, as well as desserts. Coffee is also an option here along with sodas and juice. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner. One of my most favorite things at Panera is the the soup bread bowl. I love getting the vegetable soup in the bread bowl on a cold winter day. Yummy! This location is usually packed, it's close to ODU so I think a lot of college kids go in there to use the WiFi and write papers/ do homework. Never seem to go wrong with the food here. I always get a sandwich with a salad. Someone posted that the portions have gotten smaller and I think that they have. The food always comes up extremely fast. Not sure how they do it. One thing I noticed on this trip is that for 2 adults and 2 kids, our bill was something close to $40. That sort of gave me some sticker shock. I dont think I will be bringing the kids here too often if I have to pay that much for mac and cheese. I didnt have any problems with the service. It was on a weekday around 6 pm and the place wasnt that busy. In addition, it appeared that they were cleaning out some of their older pastries and the cashier gave us an entire box of scones. That was very nice, but it killed me because my wife and I are trying to lose weight! Still it was a nice gesture from the company. The sandwich I typically get is either the smoked ham and swiss or one of the turkey breast ones. The bread is always fresh and the portions are just right. I just wish that it was a little cheaper. If I get soup, I will get the cheddar broccoli, which is very good also. The wifi there is nice also. Lots of students were working on papers in the place. Someone will bring it out to your table as you read a book, catch up on Facebook or cram for finals. I really like Panera. The tastes are always the same and your order is always right. She did not offer to remake the sandwiches. She also would not give us her Manager's phone number. Horrible customer service! We will never return to Panera Bread! UPDATE Received a call from Crystal another Manager and she quickly and satisfactorily resolved my complaint. Crystal understands customer service and that business is built on repeat customers so, she reimbursed me for the order yesterday and replaced the entire order today. For a Panera, this place is pretty good. Go there enough and you'll become a regular, and you'll feel more genuinely welcome than some other restaurants in that shopping center. The bread and bagels, of course, are quite good, as long as they aren't too plain. It's not a New York bagel or a Yorgo's bagel, but it's pretty good for the price. Menu has become less underwhelming, as they have added a ton of new varieties to the menu nationwide(?). The You-Pick-2 is great if you want to try something new, and I personally recommend trying one of everything on the menu at some point: most of the food is very good in general. The staff is excellent compared to other Paneras in the Hampton Roads area. Employees in general are attentive, and the managerial staff is welcoming and friendly. Which is how it should be. I judge a place particularly critically on how they handle a situation when things go wrong. Two weeks ago a group of us ordered take-away lunch from this Panera-- a combination of sandwiches and salads, mostly. When we came back home, I opened my watermelon feta salad to see that chicken had mistakenly been added. As a vegetarian, that was a particular problem and I was certainly a bit annoyed. I called the store and was connected to a manger really quickly. She apologized profusely, was extremely helpful, and promised to make it right. And she did. Not only did they comp us the whole order, but she also sent her driver right out with a brand new salad for me, as well as a few cookies "just to say sorry". I love that I can order my food AND pay before I even get to the store and it's ready for pickup by the time I get there! In Brief: good food, skimpy portions, repellent customer service. I used to go to this Panera with my wife often. We don't like fast foods; they're not healthy nor are they tasty as the food restaurants like Panera can provide. But this restaurant is starting to cutting corners. In particular, they've begun to provide less and less soup per portion. On this occasion, I ordered a quart of soup. The employee at the register was helpful and cheerful. The person filling the order filled the container three quarters of the way full and proceeded to begin instructing another employee that that's how full it needs to be from now on. I asked him to fill my container; $11.14 for soup should get a full container. He refused. I insisted, and he informed me that he could "get a manager for me so he can tell you the same thing." I replied, "Yes, get me a manager so he can tell me the same thing." The manager indeed tried to tell me the same thing. I told him that I'd paid for a full container, and expected a full container, not 3/4 of a quart. I said that they'd started shorting the containers of soup lately, that we have had to watch out to make sure we don't get shorted. Instead of making things right, he treated me to a lecture about portioning. Quite frankly, I couldn't have cared less about it. If he had taken another ten seconds to condescend to me about the "room they leave at the top of the container" I'd have demanded my money back and never returned, but he instructed a different employee to fill it "this one time," and informed me that he wouldn't be able to do so again in the future. This is infuriating. Does Panera want repeat business or would they prefer to earn a bad reputation? We've been happy to be repeat customers, sending our friends their way whenever they're looking for a new place to try. Panera is my wife's favorite restaurant in the area... it was, anyway. This kind of 'give-as-little-as-you-can' treatment has been turning us off to returning, and the "customer-is-always-wrong" attitude displayed the last time we went was really the final straw. read more

Panera never disappoints. I am obsessed with their green tea that is infused with papaya and guava. I also really enjoy selecting the pick two each time I visit Panera because I feel I'm getting the best value possible. My go to items on the menu are broccoli and cheddar soup, mac n cheese, or the frontera chicken panini. The location is not far at all from ODU's campus and an ideal location in Ghent. read more

This place is great. The wait times are on point and the food is always as good as I hope for. ...except for today. Today the Mac and cheese noodles were a bit over done but, that kind of thing happens. For as many times as I've been there, one instance of imperfection is nothing to bitch about. To be honest, it didn't stop me from eating the entire side. The staff there has always been friendly and I've never felt like any request has been a bother. Steak and cheese paninis is where it's at for me. I'm a little sad they've already switched out the summer corn chowder because it was very tasty but, if anything, it'll keep me from eating so much of it that I got tired of it. I need to try the challah bread but whenever I see the sign they're either sold out or it's on my way out. My only other complaint is that they're not open later. I would much rather have Panera when I have to eat a late dinner than settle for fast food or having to cook. Love this place though and specifically this location. I have been to this Panera 4 times and every time I go, the food is nicely prepared and the service is friendly. The prices are reasonable for what you get and I won't disparage a chain restaurant for being a chain restaurant. What I eat there is often better than what I get a independent places for lunch with fresh ingredients and many healthy options. My only complaint is that the places needs a little cleaning and sprucing up. Maybe it's just overdue for some renovation, but the hall going back toward the restroom is scuffed up and I usually wind up at a table where I am cleaning the seat from crumbs before I sit down. I know they do bread and crumb-producing products, but it's still a pain to always have to clean your seat off. read more
