Recently, my husband and I stopped in for a late dinner, just an hour or two before closing. We…read morewere seated and immediately greeted by our server, Sentual, who said that we could call him "S" for short. He was a kind, soft-spoken young man who provided good, attentive service to us. After we'd placed our orders and were enjoying our cocktails, breadsticks and salad, another party was sat in the booth directly behind us. This was unfortunate for several reasons: 1) The restaurant was nearly empty, so I have no idea why the host chose to sit them there. 2) The booth seats were lifted for some reason (cleaning perhaps) and it was slammed shut very loudly, which startled me. 3) The "dad" of the family was insufferable! Our server brought us a refill of breadsticks, salad and alfredo dipping sauce before greeting the other table. At that point, the dad was in the restroom. They ordered drinks and S went to get them. When he returned with the drinks, the dad had returned to the table. He asked the server's name (even though he was wearing a nametag) and S responded the same way that he'd introduced himself to us. The dad insisted on calling him by his name to honor him. He said the young man's name over and over. It is spelled Sentual, but it is pronounced almost exactly like the word sensual. The dad was really dragging it for some reason. I assume, perhaps incorrectly, that this is the reason he offers a nickname to avoid the unnecessary use of that word repeatedly. I don't know how it all began, but at some point, I heard the dad naming off all of his children and their job titles. This went on for quite a long time...there were like 13 or 14 children. They held positions in every field from dentistry to missionaries working abroad. I don't know why he felt the need to tell the server all of this. We were getting annoyed because, by this point, we were certain that our food had been ready for some time. When the dad went to pull his phone out to show S the pictures, I could stand it no longer. I turned, raised my hand to get the server's attention and said "Excuse me. When you're done there, could you please go check on our food?" Like how rude of those people, behaving as if they were his only customers. He apologized to us and them and went to the kitchen. My food, the Creamy Garlic Fettucine topped with the Herb-Grilled Salmon off of their Limited Time menu, was okay. The sauce for the pasta had broken, but the salmon filet was well cooked and still warm. My husband's meal, the Tour of Italy, had died underneath the heat lamp while Sir Yaps Alot was over there telling his life story. He was so disappointed. After exercising such patience, the thing we'd feared had come to fruition. Everything just looked cold and dried out. S offered to try to fix it and I suggested asking the kitchen to remake it, but I think hubby was just over it. He picked at the fettucine alfredo, but it wasn't good. Shortly thereafter, I asked for a to-go box and began brainstorming as to what I could prepare for him once we got home (defeating the entire purpose of us going out). S did speak with the manager about having the dish removed from our bill and the very kind manager came over to speak with us. We tried to explain to him what had happened without the table directly behind us hearing us implicate them in the entire debacle, but it was in fact their fault. S did nothing wrong. He struck me as a newer, less-experienced server who was just trying to provide good service to them but didn't know how to politely end the dad's soliloquy. In the end, the Tour of Italy was removed from our bill and the manager, whose name currently escapes me, gave us a gift card for our next visit. We look forward to going back soon, as I see that they now have some new, limited time dishes that I'd like to try! Hopefully, we will not encounter that family during our visit LOL.
