I'm sure you can all agree that our time is important and preordering food for pick up is time saving. I called and spoke with the manager- I believe her name was Adriana. I explained that I was on my way, would be there in about 8 minutes and needed to be at work by a certain time. She explained that an order could not be started without a payment upfront. I then explained that I was literally 5 min away but her response -no- could easily be interpreted as- we don't care about your time, we don't believe you and we only want your money. If you have been to one Panera, you have been to them all. I like the lunch special here. You get to choose two items from the salad menu, soup menu or sandwich menu. The onion soup is fabulous. The Crispani pizza's are ok. Not something I would order repeatedly. The bakery selections look good but I have yet to try anything. This location is literally next door to Starbucks so it would be nice to go there in the morning and then come here for a nice toasty bagel. read more

Grabbed an early lunch at Panera yesterday on the way from Monterey to San Francisco. The "You Pick Two" combo sounded like a good deal--any two of a half sandwich, half salad or soup--so I got one of Panera's hot panini along with a small mac-and-cheese (which apparently counts as a soup?). My panino (apparently the oft-used "panini" is actually the plural form), with chicken, tomato, onions, mozzarella and chipotle mayo on a tasty focaccia bread, was pretty good, but a little greasy--always a danger with grilled panini. Remarkably, the mac-and-cheese was delicious. Now, I'm not easily impressed with mac-and-cheese. I pride myself on a homemade mac-and-cheese that includes a pound of Canadian Black Diamond five-year-old cheddar, a wedge of Red Dragon white cheddar with mustard seed, a dash of aged Prima Donna gouda from the Netherlands and some shavings of truffle gouda on top. While Panera's mac-and-cheese was nowhere near as epic, it was certainly a lot cheaper. Made with a Vermont cheddar and *gasp* American cheese, I was initially dubious how this concoction would taste--I mean, there are very few circumstances in my book when the use of American cheese is acceptable--but in the end, this turned out to be a nice creamy blend with a good, sharp kick to it. Panera is part of an increasingly popular shopping center in Gilroy that's quickly turning into stiff competition for the outlets, offering commuters a convenient spot for decent food and drink along our drive up/down 101. read more

I have been here a few time and they never seem to be able to get my order right. I either get something I did not order or some part of the order is wrong. So for service out of the kitchen I will give this 1 star. Counter staff 3 stars. I always get the correct change and sometimes a smile. The food is OK. For the most part nothing special. Was very pleased with my first visit. Ordered an Italian sandwich which came w/ roast beef, ham, and salami on a ciabatta roll. It was twice the size of most ciabatta rolls that I have ever seen, being oblong, instead of the usual square shape. It was basically a sandiwch for two people. Generous portions of quality meats. Its a great place to come to and I prefer it over Starbucks with regards to their breakfast selection. I stop here on my way to work and get the cinnamon roll and Cobblestone. Their pastries are all on display and are good as well. The pizza here is suprisingly good although they call it something else. The seating is spacious and inviting. When we first walked in, it looked like a small cafe with a fireplace, over-sized chairs and a walk-up order system. Once you pass the register to fill your drink, there's a dining room with another 20 tables or so. And full of screaming kids and shoppers! Luckily, the sun was out and we enjoyed our lunch on the patio in peace. My shopping-trip-compadre ordered the Portobello Mushroom panini and I ordered the Turkey Artichoke (both were $6.99 with a bag of chips); we each had half of the other's for a perfect combo lunch! The paninis were warm and cheesy without being overwhelmingly greasy. And I could eat the foccacia by the pound -- perhaps my next baking quest will be to learn how to make this stuff at home. We always make this place our breakfast stop before heading back to L.A. Good breakfast sandwiches and I enjoy the free wi-fi. Great place for reading the paper and enjoying a good pastry. The prices are on the higher end, but it's not bad for once every three months. read more

I've only been to Panera Bread in Illinois, and this the only one I've been to outside of IL, and this one might be the exception--as it is slow, disorganized, and not friendly. Bread = good Service = mediocre (disorganized). Cashier/kitchen personnel/server = all jumbled up. Prices = moderate. It is good food but it's nothing to bring your family to, unless, you are on a roadtrip and need a bite. read more

I have only been to two Panera Bread locations and both have been great (Gilroy and Coleman SJ). I ordered the Fuji Apple Chicken salad and WOW it was really delish! Fresh and juicy and filled me up. I wasn't sure if a salad would fill me up but it did and the side of sourdough bread I got was soft and warm. It was the perfect lunch for me! My husband had Frontega Chicken panini with a side of brocolli cheese soup and he devoured it quickly. The atmoshphere was pleasent and nice. Gilroy is one of those cities that still feels like its "small". A lot of people walking in recognizing their friends and neighbors in Panera greeting with smiles and hugs, so that was nice. read more

I don't have very high expectations of corporate restaurants, or chains. You go in there, and you shouldn't expect much in the way of service -- that is what I honestly believe. But what I do expect is to have my food delivered promptly, in the order it was taken. One of my biggest, BIGGEST pet peeves is to order something, then see that the 3-4 people who ordered behind you get served first. That's exactly what happened when I patronized this location of Panera on the drive back to LA from the bay. I was hoping for something quick, that I could eat in the car, on the long drive down. In this strip mall, I had the option of choosing something from Panera or going into Starbucks. I opted for Panera, because I've had good experiences at other locations, and their bread is yummy. I chose to get a Sausage and Egg Muffin. I waited over 20 minutes with a little buzzer in my hand, and because I wasn't fully caffeinated, it took me that long to realize that other people were getting served before me. When I did, the guy behind the counter made my order promptly. But the damage was done. My under-caffeinated self was cranky, and regretful that I didn't just order the same kind of breakfast sandwich from Starbucks. At least I know I would've been in and out. read more

SERIOUSLLYYY?!? Paid $8.99 or something of that sort for a steak and cheese paninni and got some small little toasted french bread with a bag of chips. You got to be kidding me. You know for $8.99, I can probably get like a 1.5 lb of beef at Safeway and make my own damn steak sandwich! And here's the kicker, IT DIDN'T EVEN TASTE GOOD! Terrible customer service. I ordered 5 totes of hot chocolate for a work party for 50 people. Set up a hot chocolate bar with toppings and decorations and then called to confirm that it would be ready. Drove 20 minutes to pick it up and they had made 5 cups of hot chocolate. The manager told me it was my fault and that I had ordered wrong. I pointed out that the total was $135, so clearly I had ordered more than 5 cups. No apology, just said she could make one tote for me as they did not have enough milk. That was better than nothing, and after thinking about it I decided to go back and order a few totes of coffee as well. The girl that took my order this time was very sweet and offered to give me a tote of coffee free to make up for the mistake as she was aware of what had happened. The manager overheard and said she would not give me anything free. "I refunded your money", she said, "what more do you want?" Sheesh, it's not even my money I'm spending, it's my company's, but it would be nice to make some kind of gesture to make up for a huge inconvenience. Of course she refunded the money- I didn't get the order. No apology from her - just attitude. How did this person get a management position? Well, Starbucks is right next door and they saved the day. I'll never go back- and I used them quite a bit for catering. I'm tired of being treated badly by places that I give business to. Mistakes happen, but an apology and some gesture to make up for the problem goes a long way in keeping customers. read more

I'm not to big on the sandwiches or the coffee or the bagels but I like the bread. The bread they have here is fresh made daily and there is a huge selection of it. If you want to pick up some fresh bread that doesn't cost much more than the supermarket this is the place to go. Go for the bread, it's in the name, it's the reason their a chain. read more

we headed here for a caffeine/sugar injection after a day at Gilroy Gardens. In contrast to the nice but slow service we'd had there, Panera was both speedy and incredibly nice. Friendly, I'm your new friend, but not overly attentive and annoying nice. It was like visiting an old pal who just *happened* to have a nice cookie and soda waiting for you. I didn't even mind that they actually gave me a Pecan Bun instead of the Pecan Twist I'd ordered (pastries were sitting next to each other). If I could select no stars I would. I ordered catering for a 7:45-8am delivery for a 9am meeting, by 8:05am I was calling them to get a status; their Assistant Manager Mariam apologized stating their river just left and would be arriving shortly. By 8:25am still no catering, so I called them back and again their Assistant Manager claimed he was right here in our vicinity. 25min more pass (now 8:50am!!!) and Mariam answers again and apologizes and says my order was giving to a different place of business. So, #1. they never called at any point to communicate the delay in delivery, #2. they failed to confirm the address for which they delivered my food, and #3. they failed to verify if the person whom they gave my food too. OH, but it gets better. My office manager and I were so irate when Mariam offer to "cancel" our order for us. We than explained that we would like for our order to NOT be cancelled, but to be delivered. She hung up on us. We called her back, she hung up again. This childishness continued for over 15 calls. She would answer and hang up on us. We asked to speak to the manager, she yelled at us and say she is the manager and hang up. Suddenly, we receive an email stating our order was cancelled. We proceeded to contact their corporate office and when corporate contacts this Panera location they as well get hung up on. This was all before 9am mind you. At this point I am scrambling to go find a breakfast place to purchase some food for my 9am meeting. When I get back to my office I decide to give it one more shot and so I call the store again and what would you know, Mariam answers the phone very nicely and hands me off to her General Manager Rudolfo. He shares with me that he just got in at 9am and that Mariam "explained" everything to him. She somehow left out that she hung up on us all those time, but what was even more bizarre is that the GM seemed to be making excuses for her by stating they may have been having issues with their phones. Now I know what you all might be thinking, maybe this could be true, but if this were so, wouldn't someone have the common sense to maybe use their personal cell phone to contact the customer? This is by far the most worse experience of customer service I have ever encountered. I will not be using them for catering ever again. read more

Way too much dressing on the Southwest Lime Chili salad. The chipotle overwhelmed it and was the only thing I could taste. The water was awful. There is a reason why the company had specific times for when things are to be served. I love Panera. However, this Gilroy location ruins it for me every time. First, they have such poor customer service. Their employees often look like they just rolled out of bed and have this, "I don't wanna be here," attitude. It's hard to perk up first thing in the morning when you see their faces looking like gloom and doom. They handle food heavily and slam on your order like you got 15 lbs of meat. Today, I ordered a bagel, and the lady managed to burn the damn thing pretending not to notice it. I wanted to order more items, but the combo of her attitude and what she is about to do which will only aggravate the situation further, I decided to quit while I was ahead. Secondly, they can't seem to maintain this place. Their tables are unkempt and the latrines lack visitation from the cleaning crew. Thirdly, NEVER ASSUME THEY HAVE BAGELS. I've gone there on Tuesdays and they always seem to run short of their bagels no matter how early you walk in the store. Panera needs to check on its franchisees to make sure they keep up with the standards. read more

I am a frequent customer of this particular Panera as my I order food or catering from them for my company. They are okay in fulfilling your order UNLESS you want to customize your order. They frequently neglect the details in my orders when I do this or forget entire sandwiches in my order. Keep your orders simple if you don't want to deal with this type of headache. I have paid for extras in my order that never ended up in the final sandwich on multiple occasions. I hope they can fix this logistics issue in the future... read more

Although my friend and I only came here to get to-go items--coffee drinks for both of us plus a snack for me--we received really friendly, good service. Great to have a Panera near the outlet stores to take a breather, grab a quick meal, and perhaps even go online, etc. Another option for a break, snacks, or a meal when in the area. read more

My first visit to this Panera Bread first impression was where are the employees and where's the bread? Waited a few minutes out comes an employee ordered my food was given a beeper so I could pick up my food once it was ready I've never had done that in WA Panera Bread. I was given a number and a employee would deliver my meal to the table. I really liked that personal touch and think you may want to offer that hospitality.
