The guy was nice and it was super easy to get my food. We got one of those table trackers and the food came out in like 10 minutes. Food was great. Got the mac and cheese with a mango smoothie. I don't understand this location and why it is consistently poor. There are two things that drive me insane: Staff - it's like there is a brand new staff starting every single day. They are not familiar with the menu or how anything works and it's very frustrating. I have yet to go in and feel completely confident that the ordering process will go smoothly. Food availability: I cannot count the number of times that I have gone in and wanted just a plain bagel or a blueberry muffin at 8:30 in the morning and they are out of both! ON A FRIDAY. Seems like this should be planned for?? It seems petty to point it out, other than the fact that it's happened multiple times. It is really unfortunate that it is this poor. Some ladies from AFLAC came by our office to offer us supplemental insurance that none of us but my boss can afford and they brought us Panera bagels. People that think the bagels aren't good - sorry Charlie, but I thought they were excellent. I've been having random bagel fantasies since that day, especially of the sharp cheese bagel variety. Update: I actually WENT to this place this weekend and it's the asiago bagels that I crave which is weird because I've had them at Einstein's and Bruger's and they never provoked such a lust in me. I think it's the way the bagels are shaped. They have a center that creates a moment of taste perfection. The prices aren't outrageous, but if I lived anywhere near Bee Caves and had the means to drop in everyday I have the feeling I'd be up three or four pants sizes within the year. I've never been SO glad I'm not a hoity-toity Rollingwood madam of means. If they decide to plop one on North Lamar (ha!) I'm a goner. Oh yeah - service was excellent. I am NOT embarrassed to say that I love Panera Bread! I will shout it from the hilltops! What is the big deal about liking chain restaurants anyway? Some are better than some local eateries. Panera Bread is one of my favorite places to go to study, buuuuuuut I find that I have trouble concentrating because (start reading the rest of this paragraph in a rush, hurried, crazed manner) my eyes are always wandering about the place and then I start thinking of how awesome this place is to study and then that thought reminds me that I'm not studying and then I finally start studying for a few seconds and then the cycle starts all over again haha. (okay stop!) I am addicted to the Broccoli Cheese soup, Frontega Chicken, and IC Caramel drinks!!!! YUMMY! Most of the staff members just do their jobs or arrange small, informal meetings in the corner of the restaurant. In other words, they are not overly friendly, with the exception of Chawky. He is so nice and never fails to strike a conversation with me at my table. You won't have trouble spotting him, because he is the only I've seen wearing a purple/lavender shirt and a genuine smile. They have a plethora of outlets, which are all too conveniently located at every table alongside the walls. The booths are the best place to sit if you need to study or use the computer, if they are available. Unfortunately, too many people have found out about this place and now it gets way too crowded, especially on Sundays after church. It is about time to open a new one in Austin; I'm sure it will happen soon. I will be one of the first ones there too. Now that I have taken yet another break from my studying to write about the very place where I am presently, I bid you adieu. I had a delightful lunch here with Peter P. who also offered to pay for my lunch which made it an even a sweeter experience. We were looking for a place to eat at with our Pups while my car got detailed across the street at the Finish Line and this place happened to be right across the street with outdoor seating! I went in and placed my order and explained that my friend who was entertaining our pups outside was paying... "No Problem" even though a large group came in between me and my friend placing his order.... I ordered a 1/2 Turkey sandwich and a cup of vegetable soup with a choice of multi grain bread as my side (choices are apple, chips or bread). The perfect amount of food for lunch - no food coma effects afterward.... However, I was envious of Peter's choice: salad with chicken and multi grain bread which he used to make a sandwich for himself and shared the rest of the meat between our pups! I'm normally not a huge fan of chains, though I indulge occasionally in a select few. I think I'll be adding Panera to that list. Convenient to work, and they're very fast. The Portobello & Mozzarella sandwich was tasty, and had fresh mozzarella. The service was quick, and friendly (I even made the girl who took my order laugh when I looked bemused by the fact that a side of potato chips or fruit was called an "accessory"). I'm looking forward to trying out their bagels and their Mediterranean Veggie sandwich. It appears the portobello panini is seasonal, so I'm hoping it gets replaced by something else vegetarian. And while it's too hot to eat soup right now, as far as I'm concerned, their menu is very good at pointing out what is and isn't vegetarian, which makes ordering even faster for me. I also appreciated that they don't present you with a credit card slip that contains a "tip line" and if there was a tip jar, it wasn't evident. read more

I gotta give props to this place. Last night I went to pick up a quick dinner and now on the menu they have the calorie information posted right beside every item on the menu. Man, it made me think twice about ordering some things..especially things like the Caramel Frozen Coffee drink. A big ol' 600 calorie staring right at me in the face. Umm, I think I'll pass. I'm a little embarrassed I love this place. I'm not much for chain eating, but this place is fabulous. For breakfast, I love the french toast bagel or the chocolate chip bagel both with hazelnut cream cheese. My son is hooked on the pecan roles. The croissants are good too as is the coffee and hot chocolate. For lunch, the pick two with chicken noodle soup and Thai chicken salad are really good. The only negative is panera is sooo packed at lunch. The line often goes out the door. So, if you are going there for lunch, go off hours or be prepared to wait. I know this is Austin, and there are a ton of great places to eat that aren't chain restaurants, but my boss thinks that lunch is something that should happen at your desk, preferably in ten minutes or less. That being said, Panera has become my go-to lunch place for when I neglect to bring my own. For being a chain, I think they do a great job as far as variety, pricing and customer service go. This place is a carb-lover's dream (take it from an expert), and they have great menu variety. Their signature sandwiches are always good, and who can resist their bakery treats? The pick two is a great choice if you're on a budget but want some variety. I love that you get the choice of artisan bread, an apple, or chips with your meal. I love/hate that they have the caloric info posted on their menu. It's changed my mind more than once about their mac 'n' cheese, sadly. I also love their new Panera card, but that gets me in trouble with a free smoothie every time I order (they're amazing - try the mango). I love that I can walk in, order, have my food and be out the door in less than five minutes. To top it off, the people who take your order usually don't mind a little friendly banter, and everyone working in the kitchen seems to be at least faking a good attitude. My one concession is that you kind of have to know what to order. The soups vary day by day, but most are pretty good. The french onion can be overly salty, which is saying something since I grew up in a household that believed you couldn't use too much salt (Woo, Southern cooking!). Their tuna salad sandwich is pretty inconsistent, but I think that's just the nature of tuna. I don't care for their ham sandwich either, but if I wanted a ham sandwich I would have brought my own from home. In short, if I'm doing the pick two I usually stick with the turkey. As someone who generally avoids chain restaurants, I love Panera Bread a ridiculous amount. 1) it's a great place to study. Spacious tables (you may have to wait for one at peak times), free wifi, plugs galore, free coffee refills and study snacks/meals at your fingers. 2) Panera's food is so good! I literally like everything that I've tried there. My favorites are the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad, the tomato soup, the tomato/mozzarella panini, the mediterranean sandwich, and their new Salmon dishes are pretty damn good too. 3) Friendly, helpful staff. 4) Lightning fast service. By the time I get my coffee, set my stuff down at my table and open my backpack, the buzzer buzzes and my food is ready! So quick! Love love love Panera and you should too! read more

VERY disappointed. Had the chili with corn bread on the recommendations I had read here. Unfortunately, the chili was chilly and very bland (and this is coming from a transplant from Minnie-soda and if someone from the Land of 10,000 Hot Dishes for gosh sakes). Someone else in my party had the Mediterranean Salmon Salad. The third member in our party asked "Is that as tasteless as it looks?", to which the owner responded "it is tasteless, the salmon is ice cold and the lettuce looks like it was cut yesterday, but other than that, it's great". Not even half impressed after all the hype. But I am going back to give it a second shot. Italian Combo Sandwhich - nothing Italian about it. Ciabatta bread was just okay, the mayo/mustard sauce reminded me of acidic vomit, the ham & salami were decent, and the turkey & roast beef didn't belong on the same bun. The pepperoncini dosage was silly. French onion soup - flavorful, but I couldn't eat a whole bowl of it if my lunch depended on it. Diet Chicken Noodle Soup - took a taste & lost interest. French baguette as a side item - I enjoyed it more than any of the entree items I tried. Ate the whole thing and ditched half my sandwich. Pizza - only served after 4pm. WTF? Ergo, I didn't get to try it. Chocolate chip cookie - the chocolate chips were numerous, but too small to enjoy any real flavor of chocolate. It was also unevenly heated which ruined the joy of the fresh-baked experience they're trying for by heating it. Cinnamon roll - excellent. Buy one. Frosting was not overwhelming, and cinnamon dosage was thoroughly complete. Every bite was like "the middle" of a lesser cinnamon roll. Moist and evenly warm too! Cobblestone Muffin- like candy. Lots of apple(sauce?), raisins, icing, and cinnamony goodness. Would be a lot better warmed. Wildberry Muffin- not a lot of flavor. "Wild" blueberries are slacking! Pumpkin Muffin- mmmm. I took my first foray into this or any Panera Bread today, after an appointment in the area put me in Rollingwood around noon. In search for a lunch I could grab quickly on the way back to the office, I popped into Panera Bread, knowing little besides the fact that they were a bakery and sandwich shop. After contemplating the menu for a few minutes, I settled on the Bacon Turkey Bravo to go, with a small apple (Fuji? Gala?) as a side. The cashier was friendly and prompt and probably would have happily explained the menu choices if I'd asked. I was impressed with how many cashiers they had on staff, which chewed through the lunch rush with startling efficiency. After being handed my oversized, buzzing plastic coaster, I tromped over to the pick-up counter to await the arrival of my meal. It appeared promptly, with little fanfare aside from the insistent buzzing of the chunk of plastic in my hand. No names called, which I suppose keeps noise to a minimum. I devoured my apple on the drive back up MoPac. I thought at first it was somewhat small, but it was just the right size to hold in my hand while keeping that palm (and the other hand) on the steering wheel, so I guess I can't complain. It was perfectly ripe and tremendously juicy, though not so much that I splashed apple juice all over my new khaki pants. At the office, the sandwich emerged, rescued at last from its paper bag prison! The sandwich was by and large what I expected, tender meat, fresh veggies, and flavorful gouda on soft tomato basil bread. I found the bread to have a hint of sweetness to its crust, as though it had been smeared with a light layer of cinnamon and brown sugar (from their menu online, apparently this is the bread's "sweet streusel topping"). Surprising, but delicious and welcome. Overall, I was pleased with my excursion to Panera. I hesitate to grant them a five-star rating based on a single meal, so four it is for now. I highly suspect, though, that my future experiences with them will only cement their pleasant reputation in my mind. read more

I love Panera Bread but my complaint about this location is lack of cleanliness. I got there on a Saturday morning before they opened, so was the first one through the door. I went to the restroom after I ordered, which was dirty. When I sat down at a booth, there were lots of crumbs in the back part of the seat. Being the first one in the restaurant, this tells me that they are not cleaning properly from the day before. If they're not cleaning booths and restrooms, how is the kitchen? Oh Panera. You can find me at Panera in the late afternoon/evening avoiding traffic while surfing the surprisingly fast WiFi and enjoying a delicious Creamy Tomato soup in a breadbowl. The music is just loud enough to hover over the whir of their coffee makers and the bagel catapult (their slicer, seriously it sounds like a catapult) but not obnoxious enough to disturb my "work". I don't really come here for their Mango "smoothie" (mediocre at best), or their panini's (hit or miss depending on who makes it), but instead for their Chai Latte or Cinnamon Crunch bagel, or to devour a breadbowl (try not to feel like a beast when ripping apart the breadbowl to get the last of your soup, haha). Sure it's a chain cafe-type of place, but overall I like going here, for a combination of food, the oversize tables, WiFi, and the atmosphere. This place does not even open until next Friday and I can't resist the urge to tell everyone to go check it out. Panera Bread, already famous in the Midwest and Northeast, has intelligently moved into Austin at Bee Caves Rd. You'll find their prices moderate to expensive, and the location not ideal for some Austinites (ie: only two limited service bus routes go to Bee Caves), but I promise you that the trip and the cash will be worth it. I have not once passed a Panera without having to stop in to get their Broccoli Cheddar soup in a sourdough bread bowl, just one of the many fantastic selections they have on their vast menu. Bagels, pastries, paninis, salads, your choice of artisan bread, hot soups...mmmm I need to stop writing about this.... Their stores, although franchised, are pleasant, friendly and quietly comfortable. As for the one on Bee Caves, the jury's still out, but they are off to a good start - yesterday they brought fresh bread to nearby businesses for a taste! The sandwiches are nothing to look forward to, some on the menu I could make at home except I wouldn't sell it for $8. The macaroni and cheese is good, but a small bowl will cost you $7. It's a healthy choice and the bakery is popular i think, especially for breakfast(I recommend Muffies) but it isn't the greatest place unless you have a heavier wallet and smaller stomach. When it comes to baguette, I know my share, please visit my other reviews if you have a doubt. One way to test a place is by simple ordering a baguette, as you can see no scientific testing at all, but quite effective. That's what I did with this place. I have to tell it was my first time ordering at a Panera, not my first time there, just that the price of the baguette is quite high and one can get it for a lot less. Not that I couldn't afford it, just that it was way to pricey to even consider it. Well, back to the baguette, it had a good presentation, a bit to wide, but nice colors. The taste, which is the most important qualification was not there, as a matter of fact one of the worst baguettes I have had recently. Not appealing at all, I gave it to my dogs, that will eat anything. Maybe they have great salads or other items, but, if your bread is no good I'm not going back, ever. read more

They were packed to go when we received them, which isn't a big deal... But they absolutely looked unappetizing, and tasted just as bad. And while it's not my sourdough french bread... the bread was VERY good. So why not 5 stars? Well their french onion soup isn't the best I've had. (La Madeleine's is better). Also their sandwich selections don't really call to me. I've had the roast beef and the Italian and while both were good, neither were "Oh my I've got to get that again" for me. The Italian one was HUGE... easily two meals. I see they have a lot more items (breakfast, dessert, other sandwiches, salads) on their menu that I've not tried so we'll see if I can ever pry myself away from my "soup in a bread bowl order "long enough to try them. read more

There's a really cute patio at this Panera. I generally steer clear from chains, but at Panera you can get a good amount of food for a small price, which is key when you're on a college student budget! I got the pick 2--strawberry poppyseed salad and the roasted turkey avocado BLT. The sourdough bread on the BLT was amazing but my sandwich kept falling apart until I eventually gave up. I picked these two items because they were pictured as a recommendation--while good on their own, the salad comes with chicken so I would NOT recommend ordering it with any sandwich that isn't veggies-only (maybe stick to soups). The salad was very sweet and had too many different fruits in my opinion, some of them tasting like they came out of a can.
