Very good Italian food, linguini with mussels and clams one of the best I've had. Lamb and veal chops excellent as well. They serve a very tasty olive oil with the very blah bread. The one area needing improvement is their attitude. Locals and those they know are treated VERY differently than walk-ins. I have been here several times, and I think the quality of the food has declined over the years, especially in relation to the prices. That said, the regular pane e vino salad is quite good. The grilled polenta appetizer is also good, because the sauce is awesome (the scallops are not fresh -- but I would order the dish again just to dip bread in the sauce). The pastas are ok. The tiramisu is also good. On our last visit, the panna cotta had a thick skin on top and bottom and a refrigerator taste that was not very appetizing. read more

My wife and I had dinner here about seven years ago and found the food, service, and ambience to be ideal. Unfortunately, we had dinner here about a week ago and won't be returning. The best thing about our waiter was that he was absent most of the time. Because, when he was present he was a combination of indifferent and/or arrogant. Our busboy was, however, very pleasant and very helpful. The food was, at best, average. I ordered the veal chop and my wife ordered one of the chicken dinners. it is unique -- set in a quiet corner of Montecito, you'll see the famous and near famous just eating there -- like you and me. It is very European with small tables close to each other. I find the food great -- loved the linguine with white clam sauce -- and i've sampled that all over the world. and the cheese cake is very italian -- not new york-- and very tasty. Haven't been here in years and was pleasantly surprised by the quick and friendly service, fairly reasonable prices (for Montecito that is) and excellent authentic Italian food. Very good traditional Northern Italian cuisine. Spaghetti calamari with a spicy marinara was tender and delicious. Petrale Sole and Veal Scallopini dishes served with lemon, butter & capers were perfectly prepared. The locally made gelato and fruit tarts provide a nice finish. I give the food three stars and the service two stars. We are in Santa Barbara on vacation and was recommended to this place by a local friend. Came with a party of 4 and sat in the patio, which was lovely. Chairs are uncomfortable and tables a bit cramped, but it was a summer evening so the breeze was great. Our server was sort of rude when we declined to order an appetizer after giving him our entree choices. (We were eating at 8 pm and had eaten lunch at 4:30... We just weren't that hungry). The server brought our food and didn't come back until our plates were totally cleared from the table. He then brought over desert menus and laid them in front of all of us even though we said we were ready for the check, very awkward. We paid cash so left directly after our check came. No one said good bye or thank you... Weird night, but reasonable Italian food. read more

This place was fantastic! First of all, the olive oil was green and the aroma and flavor was like nothing I've ever had anywhere. My Italian born husband said that is the way it is in Italy. This is a great Italian restaurant.I came here already 5 times and I have to say it is one of the best Italian restaurant in the Santa Barbara area. The service is friendly and the food is awesome. Try the Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and the pasta with duck sauce.The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, seat is available in the patio outside. Tiramisu and fruit crostata are the best desserts. I will go back for sure when I get a chance to travel back to SB area. read more

A quaint restaurant in a beautiful city! All the items we ordered were great, but the veal/prosciutto/ sage butter ravioli & beets and tomato salad were the top two! The food is REAL Northern Italian. The vibe is...well, Northern Italian. The owners are a family from...you guessed it Northern Italy. This is the real deal. If you don't like it, good. Hadn't been here in at least 5 years...used to go all the time, but now when I'm in SB go across the street to Via Vai (same owners?). Ambiance, service were all excellent. Crowd feels very moneyed and east coast...think Greenwich. Unfortunately, the food was pretty poor. Both of us had pasta - my bolognese had a weird taste...I finished it mainly because I was famished. Other dish never came together - special of shrimp, tomatoes, fava beans with a doughy, unpleasant fresh pasta. Affogato was similarly uninspired. Won't be back. read more

Had dinner here with my wife and her sister's family. We were seated on the patio. It was an excellent dinner, the best Italian meal I have eaten and I live in a town with a lot of good Italian restaurants. Atmosphere was very nice on the patio, was quiet and pleasant. My husband and I went here for a romantic weekend out of town, and I have to say this is some of the best Italian food I have had in some time. It's cooked exactly the way you would have food in Italy, down to the starter bread. I had the pasta ai funghi (pasta with mushrooms and black truffles). The waiter accommodated my request to have regular homemade pasta instead of the whole wheat. What a delicious dish. Filled with mushroom flavor. My husband had the linguini and clams, once again perfection. Both dishes were simply prepared with garlic and olive oil, but that's what made them so wonderful, they weren't overdone and let the ingredients speak for themselves. We are out-of-towners, and it looked like this is a local favorite. When we go back to Montecito we will definitely return. read more

Felt lucky to get a reservation on very short notice on a Saturday evening. Ordered a salad and appetizer to split and two pasta dishes. Brought our own vino. Menu said "freshly picked" greens and they were definitely old. I picked out about ten pieces of orange-edged pieces that had been cut with a knife (don't cut salad greens, tear them) and other pieces that were nasty, set them on the side of the bowl, but no questions or comments from the waiter when he took the bowl. Pasta was to have wild mushrooms, black truffle and parmigiano, didn't taste a speck of truffle, not even truffle oil. Panacotta for dessert was actually quite good. Waiter never once stopped by our table through the courses to ask how everything was. Had to wait forever to get the check and by then the place was cleared out. We thought he had forgotten us. There was really only one turnover the whole night, now I see why. Mediocre food and poor service. Won't be going there again. read more

The decor and feel reminds me of a local eatery in New York. Nice. I started with mussels, which were excellent in a nice tangy tomato sauce. Then Veal Marsala. Very good. The vegetables were simply steamed and were only adequate and pretty crowded on the plate. The great disappointment was the Torta di Formaggio for desert, which was distinctly unappealing. It was tough and gummy, with little flavor. Overall, the food is quite good, but if you want the best Italian in the SB area, I still vote for Tratorria Mollie's, and if you want very casual bistro, Via Maestre. read more

We felt we were "sized up" the moment we walked in the door. When I asked him how to find the restroom, he pointed in the general direction of outside and said "up the stairs and second door on the left". This was a year ago. I came here for a special birthday and were very disappointed. The waiter was extremely rude. When we asked about gluten free options, he was patronizing. Our two lentil soups, which were tasty each came with a hidden bay leaf. Since I choked on one once and know, as a cook, to always remove it, I politely mentioned it to our waiter. My girlfriend and I went here to celebrate six months of being together and we loved the experience. The cute outdoor dining area with heat lamps was very comfortable. I had the lasagna filled with veal, prosciutto, and mushroom, and it was excellent, highly recommended. Her linguini with clams and mussels was good too.
