Service was top-notch--water was constantly refilled, and the staff checked on us regularly without ever being overbearing. The salt-and-pepper seafood trio was nicely cooked, flavorful, and had a great crunch. The pea shoots will be a re-order every time we come back. The beef chow fun had the aroma of wok hei, but unfortunately lacked flavor and was the only disappointing dish of the night. They were also out of roast pig. The kids loved the sweet-and-sour chicken. My son called them "fancy chicken nuggets." The sauce had a nice tang without being overly sweet, even though the kids barely touched it. Still on the hunt for a truly smoky beef chow fun, but Full Kee is now our go-to for Cantonese comfort food.

I tried a couple of places in Wheaton in the 3 years I lived here, but the very best was Full Key. I only visited one time on Saturday, July 20, 2018 on a date. It just so happened to be the rainiest July day since 1970 in DC and 5th rainiest day ever in July, 6th after 2022 day had more. I lived a very close walk to this center, and I trudged out in the heavy rain with my biggest umbrella & rain slicker to meet up with my date. Service was prompt and cordial. Wow, this was one of the best Chinese I've had! As for the date, it was great. She was from one of the dating websites. We went on a 2nd date the very next day, but she ghosted me. Then, I came across her again online about 9 months later, and we went out on another date in May 2019. I asked her what happened, and she explained whatever excuse with personal stuff going on or whatever. All 3 of the dates were good, but she had her issues. In summary, in spite of my kind of weird date & such a rainy day going here, I'll need to take my girlfriend here to enjoy the outstanding food if we're ever in Wheaton hopefully under sunnier skies.

Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

Both chicken and cauliflower were tasty as well. Then there is the chicken with cashew nuts. I liked this one more than I thought I would. Good flavor. Lastly, wow. The Spicy Sour Fish Filet. It came in a HUGE bowl. A little spicy, a little sourness, fish, noodle... what is there not to like. Overall, a good experience.

I think part of the reason is that I'm usually craving spicier dishes and stronger Sichuan or Southeast Asian flavor profiles. Recently, though, I've been in the mood for simple, comforting Cantonese food, so we decided to give New Paul Key a try. We stuck with some classics: beef chow fun, salt-and-pepper squid, and chicken and salted fish fried rice. I requested that the chow fun have a strong wok hei--that smoky, slightly charred flavor you get from cooking over very high heat. I always feel a little funny asking for this because it's my favorite part of the dish, but I never know whether the staff understands exactly what I mean or is secretly making fun of me. The waiter actually told me the chef didn't know what I was talking about, so they apparently just cooked the noodles longer. The flavor was good, but unfortunately, the dish was a little too greasy, and it didn't quite have the intense wok hei I was hoping for. The salt-and-pepper squid was very tasty, but we weren't big fans of the coating. It was much thicker and more reminiscent of the batter you might find on a sweet-and-sour dish than the lighter, crispier coating I was expecting from salt-and-pepper squid. The chicken and salted fish fried rice was tasty and probably my favorite of the three dishes. I did notice that the portions were smaller than I expected, especially for the price. I won't mention the shrimp egg rolls Overall, the meal wasn't bad at all, but it also didn't strike me as a must-visit Cantonese restaurant. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, or maybe my expectations were just too high coming from Big Wong. Next up: Full Key. Let's see how that goes.

I had high hopes since the menu includes intestines and other items that clearly are not meant for white customers. I am very happy to have a very tasty Chinese restaurant close to me. Dry pork noodles: These were the best IMO. Nice and spicy, with great flavors all around. I suggest getting the pork chop (add on) since there is not a lot of meat that comes with the dish normally. Beef noodle soup: Tasted very authentic and had a great broth. Thin slices of beef reminded me of real Chinese noodle soups. Spicy dry chicken noodles; Very similar to the pork noodles. What I really enjoy is that these are actually spicy dishes! I never had to add chili sauce!! Pork and chive dumplings: These were solid. The sesame dipping sauce is fine, but a mixture of Chinese vinegar (you rarely find this!) and chili sauce are good compliments. Cucumbers: These were more garlic-y then what I had in China, but are still good. Adding a little Chinese vinegar to them really takes them up a notch.
