I'm mainly updating this due to how different it is during covid. They announced they were opening back up for dine-in. I was ecstatic at first AND they took the safety seriously. When you walk in, you'll see that they blocked off the buffet and pretty much make your plate for you. You just stand on the other side and pick what you want. I love the safety standards they've implemented to minimize risk. Very innovative. Here's why the rating is lower.
They make you pay up front as soon as you walk in. This means you can't really see the limited options. That's right, about half of their usual selection is gone AND the prices went up. I went there exclusively for certain foods and they weren't there. No problem. I just wished there was some sort of post to mention the limited selection. The prices going up aren't exactly an issue for me. I can understand. They're a business and they need to make money. Imagine how huge that building is and how they've gone around 2 months without any business due to covid. That's a lot of rent to be paying. Even so, it's the rest that makes it an issue.
While it is great that they're up and running, the issue lies in the fact that you're paying more for less. They didn't say on Facebook that their menu was very limited. They also failed to mention the price change. It's all thrown in your face the moment you walk in. I would also say having to have your plate fixed through a language barrier is pretty rough. Not only is it hard to communicate what you want to the person making your plate, you have to accept food you didn't ask for. The thing about the buffet is you can see what you want and take it. When someone else makes your plate, you can get the lackluster food in the pile or something in the tray next to what you wanted. Not a big deal in all honesty, but it can ruin the experience if you feel inclined to eat it all.
Here's the next thing I can excuse. The employees probably hadn't worked in two months when we came back. They weren't on top of the game. We felt basically ignored and never got refills. We actually had to walk over and ask for them. Oh and the fortune cookies were stale. I'm just nitpicking here, but I won't let that affect the stars due to the fact that they had just reopened. Hopefully, their prices will drop back down and the selection will go back to normal when covid blows over. Until then, it might not be worth your visit. Even so, I'll be paying the increased price if the items I want come back.
TL;DR. Safety practices are great. Prices went up, food quality AND selection went down. They make your plate for you, but it can be rough due to language barrier. The experience I had would probably be a one star; but due to my previous (probably over 30) visits being 4 or 5 star experiences, I'm giving it a 3. Due to the bad hand they were dealt to begin with, you have to forgive them. Consider their position. read more
