Our second visit here, no review from the first but the return says a lot. Don't let the sketchy neighbors scare you away, they posed no threat to me. Monday night dinner after a day of work and the daylight savings sleep blast, not feeling like cooking and tired. Ordered takeout egg foo young, sesame chicken and shrimp with Chinese vegetables came with LOTS of white rice. Food was as fresh as could be and wonderful flavors. Lil Pug is funny about egg dishes but really likes this one. Arrived to grab box of food and was waiting on me, be ready in 15 minutes meant ready in 15 minutes, I like that. Small up charge for use of card, seems to be the way of the future, not a plus but it's really on the banking thieves. Parking lot could use a repave and area could use a coat of paint, but for the price and quantity of great food I ain't gonna complain. Inside was clean and employees working were friendly. No need to question if I will return that's a given, this is my go to spot for take out Chinese for now. read more

This is our go to place anytime we want Chinese food. The staff works hard to get orders out and the person taking orders makes sure your order is correct. We always get our food to go but there are some booths to sit in if you need to stay and eat. The servings are always packed so you are definitely getting your money's worth. read more

OMG! There's so few restaurants in this area sometimes I get crazy and try places just to see what is what for myself. If you value your digestive system DO NOT try this place. The egg rolls were obviously frozen premade sad little things. The "fried rice" was just yellow rice. Dry & hard grains throughout. The Egg Foo Young and General Tao's chicken was flavorless and swimming in grease. Not only did it all have to be thrown away after a few bites but my husband and I spent all night in the bathroom and had to take Pepto Bismal for 2 days afterwards. They need to get a new cook or stop serving food all together. Don't risk it! read more

First time at this location. They were very slow and the food wasn't that great. Chow mai fun was cold in spots and the beef and broccoli seemed very greasy. Maybe they had an off night but it will be a minute before I go back there. read more

Second time ordering from here. Yes it's an older building and needs some fixing up, but the food is decent. If you're in a pinch wanting some Chinese food, this scratches the itch. I have not had a bad interaction with the lady upfront. I have called both of my orders in over the phone and picked them up in a timely manner. I will continue to get food from here due to proximity and price. read more

I agree with the previous reviewer about the appearance from the street. It's Theodore - that's about all I can say. Yeah, it looks sketchy and scary, but it's a hidden gem. I am a regular customer of China Chef, and will be forever. The food is amazing, always hot and flavorful, packaged well for takeout, they give you huge portions, and it's always, always delicious. We especially enjoy the steamed dumplings here, because they're the only place in town that makes the dumplings by hand. They are so different from every other run of the mill Chinese dumplings. Whomever made a remark about the rude customer service via telephone, may need to consider that the employees are not conversing in their native tongue. Some things may get lost in translation. But, when they can cook like they do, they could cuss me and my family and I'd still order from them! :) read more

This place is a Joke! Looks like an abandoned building when you pull into the parking lot. Look out for the pot holes, you'll blow a tire out. If you're going to serve the public, learn how to speak English! Very Rude lady at the boarded up door where you place your order. Adequate for the price but not all that great. They were efficient and my order ready by time I arrived to pickup. My order did end up being incorrect once home but eaten anyway. Also rice is yellow rice which seemed untraditional to me but tastes fine. read more

We've ordered from China Chef dozens of times and this restaurant is consistently delicious and gets it right every time. Other restaurants you go to more than once, the flavor might be different from one time to the next, but not here. Not only that, but the food is always piping hot, you receive large portions with rice packed sides and wontons or egg rolls whichever comes with the entree, the fried items are properly prepared, not greasy. You can tell the rice is always freshly made and which ever entrees you order they are done on the spot, not leftovers or sat around all day under a heat lamp. You'd never know to look at the building from the street, but don't hesitate to go inside. There are always folks going in and out picking up their orders. We frequently call ahead (they even know our voice, that's how often we go here). It's a family operation which to me always means integrity goes into the efforts. The family is always kind and polite and accommodating. There are dine-in booths but they also have a drive up window. This place really is a hidden gem! read more

Nothing special here. One of the only Chinese places in the area of tillmans corner. They always say 10 min for pick up even if it's 20. I do like there crab Rangoon. Otherwise it's just your run of the mill Chinese place. I think they know they have the market and don't have to try real hard. No competition. Prices are pretty good. read more

I have been getting take out orders from here for years! It really is good food, nice "growing" family works the restaurant, call in or there is a prepare food wait time, lunch time is best, place is usually pretty busy! They had closed early couple days ago (3-pm on sunday) probably due to storms coming through but next time I will call before I go make sure their still open, would really hate to lose one of the few good places still around to eat at. read more

For Theodore, Alabama this place is actually ok. The family that owns it are immigrants from China and it's a mom and pop shop. They give large portions and it's pretty tasty although the veggies aren't as fresh as in Northern California. The building is pretty run down and the area it is located in isn't the best. In fact the building looks like it will collapse any moment which doesn't really give me confidence in the healthiness of the food. Still, I eat it because I really like Chinese food and it's close to my parent's home. read more
