I have been to Chef King several times and wanted to take the time and write a review. During my holiday vacation and while I had out of town company that love Chinese Food I decided to get Chef King chicken wings and fried rice. My sister especially loved the taste of the wings and the sesame chicken. The service is always great when I have gone to Chef King. Chef King does not have indoor dining but the ambience is always friendly and welcoming. I will definitely continue going for their tasty wings as well as their vegetables. read more

My family and I love Chef King, we've been getting take out from them for nearly 7 years now. We usually get the create your own , it's 2 entrees , 2 sides, and rice; comes with a lot of food and literally feeds 2 people. Our food is always pipping hot and delicious. The only complaints I have is they can be a little slow, but it's just 2 people cooking in the kitchen. So we tend to order over the phone and wait 20 minutes before picking up. Secondly, they seem to close when they want, no warning or anything. There's been times where it was a random weekday and we called or drove by and they were closed. Came here during my undergrad years +2004, located across the street from USA South side campus. Cheap, and flavorful. Inside looks clean. The person answering the phone sounded like they'd rather be anywhere else in the world. Didn't say price or give much information. Ordered the wonton egg drop soup and it tasted like burned plastic, the wontons were horrible. There's a large sheet of plastic hanging inside and the environment is not welcoming at all. The eggrolls were basic. The crab rangoons were tiny and really just filled with cream cheese. The fried rice was super basic and flavorless. We actually ended up just throwing most of the food out because it just seemed questionable, as if it had sat out all day. Great location and prices but this was such a let down I doubt we will be back. read more

For take-away this is an excellent place for the food quality to price ratio. For dining in, it's a sterile environment with foam plates and plastic forks. No chopsticks, even (although I didn't ask). Arrived before 3, so each meal was about $6, and each soda about $2. So a late lunch for 3 for under $25 was surprisingly good. Keep in mind that excellent food served on a foam plate with a chintzy plastic fork will taste less than stellar. So yeah, I recommend this place for takeaway, particularly before 3:PM when the prices on everything goes up by $2. Even in the evening it's a great deal, though. And as much as I detest fried food, the included egg roll was delicious. Not greasy at all. read more

Popped in Chef King with my boyfriend for lunch one day. He had the hot and spicy Tofu combo and I had the sesame chicken combo. His Tofu was really good, not really spicy at all but still good. Buffet is okay, but the take out is always really good and super fast. And for the price you really can't beat it. The service is actually something I like because it's exactly what you see on TV shows. They are kinda short with you but not rude at all. They get you in and get you out, which is what I want from a Chinese take out place. My order usually goes like this: call them, lady says "Chef King," I say my order, "OK ten minutes." Ten minutes later I'm there, I walk up, tell my order and she gives me the bag and i give her the money and leave. Efficient, fast service. *Edit: the food recently hasn't been what it used to be. This take out joint expanded into a buffet about a year ago. It started out good but has been on a downward slide since. If you like your food overly sweet or overly salty, this is where it's act. If you want more flavors than that, I suggest you go elsewhere. The service is what really gets me. The one waitress I got the last few times have been really rude and not just to my party. She has shouted to me from across the room and then rolled her eyes at another customer. The level of rudeness got me hot under the collar, I tell ya. Really low prices for mediocre (at best) food. Never going there again. The food was sub-par on quality and taste. Red flags when I walked in, should have eaten Subway instead.
