Dish NOT to get! Ma Po Tofu, needed more spice, too bland and boring.

I just wanted to get a quick to go order of the BBQ Pork Egg Fu Young. Normally this dish comes to the table with the egg patty under a mountain of goodies and gravy, but getting this to go would likely end up in a mess trying to travel with that, so, the solution is get them to pack the patty by itself and put the liquid sauce and meat veggie mix in a big soup container. That way nothing gets spilled on the way home and then at home you can pour just the amount you want on the egg patty. This worked out so well, I may just order the sauce separate when I dine in next time. The BBQ pork egg fu young was delicious and no other restaurant serves it this way. Usually you just get some bare egg patties and some bland gravy to pour on it with no meat or veggies in it! Panda Kitchen for the win! The food was still super hot when I arrived home 15 mins away. Steamed rice is included as well, not EXTRA like other Chinese joints.

4/14/2023 Wanted to take a drive and break in my new tires.. Both were wanting to try a new Chinese restaurant.. We were warned that there was only one cook tonight. So the wait would be longer.. Ordered: crab Rangoon- Nice! 8 won tons very nice portion for the price Chicken chow mein- nice tender, small pieces of chicken and no filler of cabbage or bean sprouts.. Honey walnut prawns- for the price and the plump battered prawns in a sweet but not too sweet sauce- very good- Half duck- a little disappointing- over deep fried and the half a duck was a skinny duck.. not much meet Service was great. Definitely will be back for the lunch specials. Great pricing, great portions and authentic background music.

We had a great meal and service. Food was delicious and hot. Will definitely be going back.

Hot and sour soup. Love the plentiful Tofo, mushrooms, and spice!

I had a lovely rainy/snowy Saturday late lunch at china palace. Hot & sour soup, Kung pao shrimp with friendly service and witnessed other pleased patrons. The veggies were fresh and crisp, rice nice and light, and peanuts freshly toasted. $11. Grabbed a menu for future take out. The prices are very reasonable and great quality!

We have not driven out to China Palace in a while so a visit was in order. Surprisingly the restaurant was empty due to street vibrations; so today was an opportune time to drop by, we practically had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We ordered our usual favorite entrees like the Crab Rangoon and Honey Walnut Shrimp (plump juicy shrimp and very lightly battered) and then we tried a few new entrees General Chicken (also lightly battered with good size pieces of chicken and a mildly spicy sauce) and a new favorite appetizer: the pot stickers. Their potstickers were so massive, it was a meal on to itself and while the potstickers were good on its own, the sauce that accompanied it was sheer perfection! All the food was masterfully prepared. But as impressive as the food was, the service is equally as wonderful. The chef, himself, came out and thanked us for our business at the beginning of the meal and checked back at the end of the meal to ask how everything was: excellent we admitted. Every member of this family owned restaurant is always welcoming and friendly, we always feel appreciate for our patronage each time we've dined here and it shows in the proprietors' demeanor and their delectable food.

Every now and then I have one of those where have I been moments?…read moreWell, today was one of those times. I was at a plaza, not far from where San Marcos Grill is located. We were hungry and decided we wanted Mexican food. We've been really tired of the place we've been visiting as we are regulars there. We've been really wanting to try something new and I remembered there was a place down the street from the plaza we were at. San Marcos Grill is not very hard to find. It's just off the main drag going through Carson City on Winnie Lane. We pulled in to the parking lot and I have to be honest. My first thought was wow I hope this place is good. Because I had my doubts being in a strip mall. But you never know unless you try. So we walked, and I was amazed, how awesome this place looked I'm talking very festive, very clean. Tables were well spaced out. The lady greeted us immediately and pointed us to a table where we could sit at. She was there taking our drink orders very quickly. As we sat and looked over the menu, I could not get over the size and beauty of the bar that they have in this establishment. Complete with a great selection of any kind of drink, you could possibly want also TVs that are spaced around the establishment so if you want to watch a sport event, there's not a bad seat anywhere in the restaurant. After looking over the menu, our server came to our table was a very nice young lady and took our orders. My wife chose the beef enchiladas, and a taquito, which comes with rice and beans As I always do with a new establishment, I chose the Carnitas plate. I am a Carnitas aficionado and I always try everyone's Carnitas to see if they are legit. As we're waiting for our food, I noticed an older gentleman who was just helping everybody, come to find out he is the owner. I do not know his name, but he's very friendly guy and very warm and welcoming. As I said, the establishment is very spacious and clean. The bathroom was even clean, so it was a real joy to be there, even though we were waiting on our food, which did not take very long. My wife ordered a margarita that she really liked and I just had a Modelo with a lime. The gentleman I just told you about who I think is the owner brought our food to us and it looked amazing. Needless to say, we dug right into our food and I could not get over how great these Carnitas tasted. Not everyone can make really good Carnitas, they're either dry or they're cooked too long to were they are too crispy. These are so tender and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite. My plate came with rice in a small bowl of beans, a garnish of avocado, sour cream and pico. It also came with very hot corn tortillas The tortillas, however we're spoiled and tasted really old. In fact, you can smell how old they were. I let our server know, but it was no big deal because I had tortilla chips still on the table. She offered to get me some new tortillas, but it was fine because I only use the tortilla to kind of put my food onto the fork. So the tortilla chips worked just fine. I kept trying to eat the Carnitas slowly because I was savoring it so much. I did not want to hurry and be done with the meal too fast. This was our first visit here, and I can tell you that we will be back and probably become regulars. The staff here is very wonderful welcoming and I cannot recommend this place high enough to anyone that wants a great place to eat really great Mexican food. Kudos to the staff.!

I was hungry, but she wasn't so we shared a few dishes, which were graciously supported with fresh serving plates for each dish. We really do love sharing plates. We both loved every bite, including the perfectly al dente noodles. I secretly wish for bread, but I'll know to order it next time. Hostess was really sweet and cheerful. Loved that. Now is where the problem started. Our waiter never introduced himself, but the receipt says Steve S. He walked up, said do you want something to drink besides water, that is where the conversation ended when we said no thank you. We asked for ice for the water as they try to keep it authentic. He goes and grabs some ice, puts into 1 glass and walks off. We had a glass each. So, I still have no ice. Never did get any either!!!! He never came back so sometime else dropped off the food. For that fact, he never came back period. We had to ask the hostess to get him for us. She said he would be right there, time passes and still have not seen him. He NEVER came back ever. The hostess had to go get our ticket and ring us out. So yeah, tip was not great either. You get a tip for service rendered to a customer. If you do not do anything, it will reflect! On to the food. So for the waiter 0.1 stars. Worst wev3e ever had!! We ordered the warm olives 3.5 stars They were ok. The cheesy pull apart bread. Very little cheese on it at all. If you're calling it cheesy, I want some cheesy on it. 3 stars The octopus with 1000-layer potatoes and a dressed salad. Octopus, solid 4 stars as I have never had it in my life to compare it. Was tender chewy if that makes sense. The aioli that comes with it pairs nicely! 1000-layer potatoes 5 stars solid!! I would eat these for a meal. Salad 3 stars, dressing was very little. So, all in all, ambiance was really nice, meal was just ok and waitstaff was the worst I've ever had in a nice restaurant Everyone keeps talking about their great experiences, so where was our great experience. So due to this 1 bad experience, we will not give it a 2nd chance.

So, my local friend wanted to take me to this Thai restaurant right down on the main street in downtown, if Carson has an actual downtown that is. We got parking right in front of the place on the main street. Inside is nice and elegant in a Thai kinda way. Nicer than a casual mom and pop Thai joint. We get seated at a nice table near the front. My friend already knows the menu, so I go with hos suggestion for the Lunch special Duck with sauce over rice. It's $22 bucks, so it better be good! He has the Thai battered salmon for around $19. Soup is included and it's just a veggie broth, though tasty. Then our lunch specials come out. Oh wow, that duck look really good. It's totally deboned, so no messing with bones at all. The sauce was super tasty. My friend said he thinks its some sort of duck juice reduction with other added stuff. Whatever, this was one of the most tasty duck dishes I've ever had. His salmon was unique, I never saw a dish like that made with salmon. The coating was very unique and crispy and the salmon not over cooked. Overall, I really liked this place. I think my crew is having lunch at one of the local casinos, I'd rather be here!

The bill came to $80 which I felt was kinda steep for 3 items, especially in Carson City. The restaurant is located on a street where there was very limited parking in front and all the rear parking is super dark so bring your night vision goggles. At least there's plenty of parking spots. When I walked in, I was surprised to see Caucasian staff members! Well I guess this isn't that different than Panda Express where you have hispanics in the front and the 1 token asian in the back cooking. I picked up my food and was pleasantly surprised to find the dishes were pretty loaded. I started dipping into my duck curry and OMG it was probably the best I've had. Not only was the flavor amazing and spiced just right, but there was a generous amount of duck! When I went to eat dim sum recently and ordered roast duck, I got a plate of duck that was mostly skin and bones. Here they actually de-boned the meat so you're getting nice chunks of flavorful, meaty duck along with fresh chunks of pineapple, tomatoes, and spices with that yummy curry over my caucasian rice (I like to be culturally sensitive). Even my wife that don't like duck really enjoyed this. So while $80 for 3 dishes may seem a bit high, it was worth it. I really enjoyed my meal here and my kids also ate all their noodles with enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

Now, mind you it's been years and years since my wife and I had gone to Duke's, but based on that recommendation, we took a fresh look at it. As an aside, neither my wife, nor I can remember why we hadn't been back, and at the end of the day we felt like this was one of the best meals we've had in the valley or in Carson City in recent memory. We arrived early and enjoyed a cocktail at the bar with Alec. He was friendly and knowledgeable and, with us, patient as we talked about cocktails, a friend we had in common, and the Pappy Van Winkle they had on the shelf behind him. It was right below the Louis the 13th. Let me just say that the Frey Ranch bourbon old-fashioned he made us was delicious. We were seated on time and greeted by a very professional server named Alex. He was assisted by a busser named Kristin. They worked very well together, and we were constantly refreshed with water, bread and drinks. The environment was very pleasing. There were no TV screens, loud noise or music, and the room was spacious. The patrons were nicely distanced from each other. They have established a true old school steakhouse environment. The menu had items that allowed everybody something they could enjoy. Steak was the star of the show, but there was a nice variety of seafood and chicken that was also available. As a group we enjoyed a filet mignon with Berna sauce, the house special that night, which was in New York steak with blue cheese, chicken, Cordon Bleu, and a piece of cod. For appetizers, we had chosen a shrimp cocktail and escargot. Both looked and tasted exceptional. It was at this point that we ordered our first extra basket of bread as I wanted to enjoy every bit of the buttery garlic, and blue cheese escargot drippings that I could. To summarize, I would be remiss without commending the chefs as the food was presented beautifully and tasted every bit as good as it looked. The staff that we bumped into was very positive and friendly. So if you're in the Carson City or Carson Valley know that this is well worth your careful consideration when considering a fine dining experience if you're in the market for a steakhouse. We will definitely be back.
