My review may be bias based on being in the area for a long time and remembering Panda Kitchen as it once was.. Steve (previous owner) made some of the best consistent chinese food i have ever had! His sweet & sour sauce was incredible.. Wouldnt give me the recipe!! but gave me a hint "lots of fruit!!" i tried!! epic fail.. sweet & sour chicken, Beef and brocolli with bamboo chutes!! ohh my!! bbq Pork fried rice with SLICES of marinated char siu loin and bean sprouts???!!! oh my again!! death bed meal for me!! best chinese food i have ever had and i am forty now.. I know he originally turned the business over to his cousin?? or something.. changed all the recipes added sushi and overcooked the food.. your meat choice is often jerky now especially if you have leftovers!' ugh! prices are now way too high even before inflation hit.. It may even have another owner as everyone is new again and we keep going back with that glimmer of hope!' Food is still mediocre at best.. (Chinese, Thai, Pho, Sushi all offered now) We have tried multiple times and will not leave a food based review if we have not gave multiple chances on overall quality of the food in most cases. Service, size, pricing we may differ and leave a review based on overall experience and value.. Here we are mainly disappointed in the food.. One of the only positive things is its 9:30 closing time.. last minute late night craving for chinese?? At least they are there to answer the call!! Sorry.. Asian cuisine in Carson City has hit an all time low after losing 2 of their best chefs/restaurants the past few years..I wish i could find Steve and pick his mind a bit on his old incredible recipes!! My death bed meal may be a lost wish unfortunately!! One of the most dissapointing dishes i ordered more recently was honey bbq pork (appetizer) for like $10.. it was a traditional chinese to-go carton less than half full!! I showed my wife and she heckled me!! What a shame!! lol!! I think i still have the shameful photo of the untouched $10 bucket of $1.50 worth of over cooked honey pork somehwhere!! Took the wife last night and was disappointed :-( Service was slow, how slow? So slow that when the food got to us it wasn't hot but barely warm. Walnut shrimp wasn't crispy, it was soggy and yep, you guessed it barley warm! The only dish hot was the pork chow mien which was above average. I tried to stick it out after Steve sold it but it's just gone so far down hill it makes my head spin, The food is not even close to the same quality it once was, Bottom line there expensive and not satisfying, they are no better than China east at this point so save your money and go there. From 5 to 3 stars. Went back for the first time after owner decided to sale the place and it sucks now. Customer service is very bad. Lady had me wait for my order and OK that's fine but brought me chow neon instead of fried rice. It was to go so I'm glad I checked my box. She did not apologize or anything. Service was slow and not very warm or welcoming. They weren't busy and had two servers so that wasn't an excuse for the slow service. The appetizers tasted like they were fried in old oil. Although the Sweet and Sour Chicken was slightly better than what we experienced last week at another restaurant the Kung Pao was alright. We had to flag down our server a couple of times as she never came by to see if we needed anything and when we did get her attention she forgot our request promptly and we had to ask again. I used to LOVE Panda Kitchen under the past owner. Ever since ownership changed, I have given it chance after chance. Every time the quality gets worse. It's just not like it used to be, and that is such a bummer. Bad quality meats, changed many recipes-so it tastes like all other Chinese restaurants. The service was great, but the food had zero flavor. Tasted like oil and water. We had high Hope's but even China Express tastes better.

What happened? You used to be so delicious, you used to have generous portions and you used to serve Moo Shi pork already wrapped and ready to eat. Instead, we received smaller take-out boxes, (same price of course) Wor Wonton soup that was mostly cabbage with 3 pieces of pork and 2 wontons, and Moo Shi that wasn't put together. Totally disappointed! Also, no fortune cookies, soy sauce or any extra goodies like every time before. Was it because it was on Saturday night? Are you under new management again? Different cook? Whatever the issue, I will be spending my $50 elsewhere. :( read more

This place has always been good. I've eaten there at LEAST over fifty times, because it was my favorite chinese food restaurant in town. I felt it was very authentic, not americanized. Americanized is peas and carrots and grease. Okay they do use carrots in their soup but they're cut very nicely and well done. The staff has always been very friendly and polite. Steve is very very cool. I've never had any problems with the staff, and they always remembered my favorite dishes when I came in. The place is really clean, and has a great eating environment, the food is great, and the tea is wonderful. If indeed it did go out of business, it would be a horrible shame. Yum! My husband and I were looking to try a new Sushi place in Carson, after frequenting the usuals, and decided to stop in Panda Kitchen and Sushi. We were overwhelmingly surprised with how fresh and good their sushi bar was! We had an experienced and personable sushi chef that made some of the best sushi we have ever had. The lunch special can't be beat at $16.95 for all you can eat and I highly recommended the 49er's hand roll! read more

Team BunnyRanch used to go there every sunday night and loved it. We had not been there in a while since they close on sundays, I took madam suzette for her favorite Asian chicken salad, its was super and way cheap! like $6.95, I had the Egg flower soup and we shared some Won tons, we walked out full and happy for $12, WHAT A BARGAIN. Don't waste your time. Everything had zero taste. Deluxe chow mein had like zero veggies in it. My crab rangoons were tiny and put on a bed of lettuce for take out so they were nice and soggy by the time I got home. There is much better in Carson and I will just go there next time. read more

We ordered a take-out feast; basically half the menu came home with us. Maybe it would have been better a little fresher because we ended up with greasy noodles, questionable meats, bland vegetables, and in general, not the best Chinese food. The sesame beef, however, was sweet and tasty, however Americanized. In general that may be the problem: there's no taste for authentic or traditional Chinese food in the area. I understand a certain amount of customer loyalty because the food's not at all revolting, it's just... I've had better. I'll give it another go, maybe eat in, and hope for a better experience. We had not visited Panda Kitchen for a little while, but we ordered take out last night and it was absolutely terrible. I asked my husband if Steven was there. He said no, he didn't see him or his Wife. I said that was very unusual, as Steven and his Wife always oversaw every single dish, before it was ever served!!! So on further investigation I found out Steven and his Wife sold Panda Kitchen to another couple... OH NO!!! Sorry, but the food is absolutely nothing compared to when Steven and his Wife owned it. It has gone to the dogs!!! Our dog liked it, but he will eat anything!!! The chicken and shrimp were so tough you could hardly chew and swallow them, the egg rolls were greasy and tasteless and their great hot/sour soup also has gone bye-bye too. This was the very, very best Chinese food anywhere around, but the key word is WAS!!! Never had a bad meal in all the years Steven and his Wife were the owners. We were customers of his, since he first opened, almost 28 years ago!!! This business will be lucky to stay in business now!!! For us, it's so long Panda Kitchen, we will miss the great chinese food you used to serve!!! Miss Steven and his lovely Wife!!! UPDATE: After writing this bad review it got even worse. I've been coming to Panda Kitchen for over 20 years. Went today for a pick-up order. FUBAR Apparently, there are new owners. While the kitchen staff in the back appeared to be the same, the husband and wife in the front of the house could not accurately take my order even after several attempts. The have added a sushi counter, cramped and no atmosphere but I'm not ready to try that. Got my food home--not what was ordered. I think I'll look for a new Chinese place. read more

I haven't been here in 8 years but I knew I wanted to stop by when I was in Carson yesterday. Now knowing that the establishment has changed ownership explains some of the changes I saw. I ordered my staple of shrimp with lobster sauce but the shrimp was not as big and succulent as I had remembered although the sauce was just as great. My MIL had some chow mein that was passable and my preschooler had the pot-sticker appetizer. The breading to that tasted off as did my egg roll that came with my meal. Flyers outside advertised sushi but I didn't see that on the menu nor were we handed a separate menu for that. We had come after 3 PM, well into the hand-the-customer-a-dinner-menu hour. My tea was also extremely bitter and required a sugar packet; unusual for me. Our meals had a bland fried shrimp that tasted pre-frozen, the off-tasting egg roll and egg drop soup that was tasty. I consider myself somewhat picky when it comes to good Chinese food. I like my rice fluffy, the veggies fresh, and my chow mein flavorful and non-greasy. Panda Kitchen accomplished all of the above and then some! The pork in the fried rice and chow mein was lean and flavorful. I tried my friend's cashew chicken and it was terrific as well. The restaurant was very cozy, clean, and the service was good. And something you don't see much anymore is the chef (owner?) coming over to check on how we enjoyed our meal. Fast food prices but restraunt quality service, food, and environment. Stopped here passing through on vacation. Was looking for a cheap fast food place on Yelp and thought I messed up. We were greeted by the owner in the parking lot, we enter to a very nicely decorated restraunt where we were accompanied by a hostess to choose a table. We were served excellent soup as an appetizer, red tea, and the main dish itself as a lunch special for $8/each. The food was very good and the waitress helped us choose our dishes and gave us an assortment of sauces to try with our egg rolls. I was even surprised to find the bathroom to be nicely decorated and of course clean. Was extremely satisfied with the restraunt, my only complaint is that I live so far away. read more

Love, love, LOVE it! We moved away from the Carson area for seven years and seriously one of the things we most looked forward to is coming back to Panda Kitchen. I have yet to eat anything there that I haven't loved. I stick with things I normally like, so I'm never surprised or disappointed with something new. But I've tried at least 10 different dishes and they are ALL delicious. My favorite dish by far is simply their deluxe fried rice. Yum. Steve and his wife are the best too.
