I enjoy coming to Panda Express as a quick food stop while traveling because we don't have a local location. The closest is about 45 minutes from my home so I don't get Panda Express as often as I would a local fast food spot. This location on first entry I noticed was clean, and needing to use the restroom I noted the women's bathroom was also clean. Standing in line did take a minute because they were busy both inside and the drive-thru. I ordered an entree of orange chicken and a side of fried rice. Food was standard for Panda Express and I'm glad I came in despite the high amount of low ratings. I rate this spot 3 stars because they are the average Panda Express. If I start coming regularly I may bump up a star because if a place (especially fast food because it's more rare to happen) has personable employees who get to know their regulars that is the kind of special that deserves extra stars as recognition. read more

Prices are up, portion sizes are a third of what they used to be and the food quality is barely tolerable. What happened?! (I saw a documentary on the History Channel about the origin of Panda Express and it was inspiring, needless to say... those days are long gone.) They leave the noodles out far too long, and what you get is almost like a hard shoestring. Rice is clumped together and tastes like kindergarten paste. Even the old standby dishes such as Orange Chicken have been changed. Cheaper and more cheaper ingredients. Tastes bagged rather than wok made. I'm not entirely sure what Panda Express puts in the walnut shrimp but I swear to you it's one of the closest foods to a drug I know. Forget the extra up-charge, every time I go through to get a plate it has to be my go too it's just so so good. I've been to this panda, along with the one by 28th street and east betline, and both never have grilled teriyaki chicken ready. I've been during lunch, dinner, late nights, and been to each location probably a minimum of 8-10 times each, and had literally 1 time that they had grilled teriyaki chicken ready. And I don't mind a wait. I really don't. But everything they tell me it's going to be a 5-10 minute wait and to pull into a take-out spot, it has always taken atleast 25-30 minutes to get my food. And then the rest of the food I ordered is cold. Not to mention I've been forgotten about 4 times while waiting. I'm not sure what I expect from a fast food joint... but can I atleast get an accurate wait time. I hate that I like the teriyaki chicken so much now... read more

Update 4-30-19: I appreciate a business that works to improve and strives for customer satisfaction. My second visit to Panda Express was slightly better. The food was still, in my opinion, subpar (overdone fried rice, weird tasting soda from the fountain, etc.). However, the crab rangoon was much better than my last visit and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. Original review: I guess this was pretty much what I expected, but I've been wanting to try Panda Express for a while so I was still disappointed. The orange chicken was okay, if a bit chewy/crunchy and overcooked. The crab rangoon was a huge letdown, as it was basically an empty fried wanton with a thin, dried up layer of cream cheese inside (see picture). Staff was super friendly but I thought service could've been much faster. It was obvious that they were hustling to get online orders out in time, which left me standing there waiting for longer than I expected. I do not recommend coming here. We stopped at 1:45pm to eat. Hardly any entrées and what entrées were there were burnt or extremely dry. No rice would have to wait for 10 minutes before any would be made and 15-20 minutes before any more entrées were made. Don't waste your time stopping. read more

I don't know why this place has so many bad reviews. I have gotten take out twice and I have eaten in once. Each time I was greeted warmly and I had great service. I always get a bowl with two entrees and I always get half rice and half noodles. Each time I have eaten here the portions have been quite plentiful. This was the worst food I've ever gotten. I ordered a bowl of sesame chicken and fried rice. The bowl was 3/4 of the way full of fried rice, which was not cooked all the way, rice still crunchy and about 5 or 6 tiny pieces of fried batter, no chicken. On 4/24/2020 at 6:25 pm I ordered a 3 item combo and they forgot my two other items ( orange chicken & teriyaki chicken ) the embarrassing silly manager said they check the order (items) 4 times ....I spent paid through my door dash app, which I'm Canceling now. They charge almost 5 dollars for delivery and I also paid a $4.00 tip a total $22.00 for a 1 item combo of just chopped up order of steak and fried rice and Chow mien, $22 dollars !!! Got halfway into eating the dry chicken and found a hair in my food. Called the restaurant and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Terrible food and even worse service. If you use to not mind waiting outside in long lines to get in, and loved to eat at the Hong Kong Inn downtown Grand Rapids..... Don't go Panda Express Chinese restaurant. You will be very disappointed. When my husband asked us how did we like it? We both said, "It's okay", dismally, and "I really miss Hong Kong Inn." What did we receive for our $10.00 plate? 3 cups of cooked rice or low mien noodles w/a "small" portion equal to a 1/4 cup of meat/shellfish w/mostly LARGE pieces of not crisp tender cooked wok broccoli/zucchini squash/chopped kale on a Sysco/Gorden divided paper plate. The Extremely large portions of brown rice/noodles/not real fried rice w/pieces of scrambled eggs added in, was in the large space of the plate, while the two small sections of this plate received a 1/4 cup of entree each/except for the shrimp or beef/steak entrees. They counted the shrimp exactly, and each "little" piece of beef. With the emphases of paying extreme close attention to spooning on tons of big cuts of veggies for the combo plates, which we were charged $7.50, plus $1.25 "Up Charge" (not self serve buffet) for the beef we could hardly see or taste, shrimp were medium size, tasted okay, each one was counted as well for the "same up charge" of $1.25", meaning a combination plate ended up at $10.00 each w/a egg roll. Which had far too much ginger mixed into them, and overpowered it, and were over fried/almost burned. (Yes, They actually counted how many pieces of meat/shrimp were put in that little triangle space). We requested less rice/noodles due it was HUGE Amount, and was far too much for anyone to eat. A family of 4-5 could have eaten all of this rice twice. Needless to say, we were not listened to, they actually piled more rice/noodles onto our plates, when we said "no, that is too much." When we asked for the last two "tiny" pieces of beef left in their buffet bowl w/the 12 HUGE pieces of nearly raw broccoli, we were told "You have enough meat." I am sorry, but this does not fly w/me. I would not dare, to treat any of my customers like this when I was wait staff in high school or college. We also understand Rice & Noodles are Cheap when 1 cup of rice=3-4 cups cooked, and the same for a normal serving of any pasta. With this being said, we are very much aware that a restaurant usually requires 75% markup, in order to make a profit as well, after paying for overhead/employees/taxes. So, how much was It for the 3 of us? It was $32.22 w/sales tax in change for the 3 of us, including all three of us drinking water. Would we recommend eating at Panda Express to anyone? No. Visit your favorite Local, and Independent Chinese Restaurants instead. They won't Disrespect you, nor will they disappoint you or over charge you for rice coming out of your ears to be wasted, because it had to be thrown in the garbage. read more

This is the .. second, I believe, Panda Express in Grand Rapids. It's in a location that promises some traffic (being on Alpine) but north of 4-Mile means sometimes that very traffic during busy times might limit your access. However... (and my review is based on the food and drive through.) the service was pretty friendly and the food was what you would expect from a chain chinese place. Decent but nothing to write home about. Decided to try this place b/c our usual Chinese Takeout was closed. Would not take a phone order, had to order online & pre-pay. Didn't find out until pickup they were out of Fried Rice! That's dirty pool, we wouldn't have ordered; the system should flag out of stock items. Had them sub white and brown rice instead, both of which were cold and clumpy. The rice actually took up more than half the container! The beef & broccoli in one order had only 3 pieces of beef, and Kale(?) mixed in with the broccoli. This is a review of panda expresses in this region. Panda express locations outside of Michigan (or at least Grand Rapids) are amazing. I would recommend a new regional manager, but that is obviously not my call. I assume this is regional management over corporate or local management because all of my complaints below are the same for all of the Panda Expresses in the Grand Rapids area (and perhaps Michigan as I do not know where the regional management area ends), but these issues are NOT present at locations outside of Michigan. Reasons for dissatisfaction: 1) Lobbies are still not open, I have been to Panda Express locations in PA and FL in the last 2 months and both areas have lobbies open. This is exclusive to Michigan (PA had worse covid restrictions than MI as well, so this is not an excuse). To make matters worse, if you come during the lunch break (don't do it) and have to eat in your car, there are no trash bins accessible from the outside. Terrible. Furthermore, they have signs posted at this location saying that masks are recommended (new covid guidelines) and the lobby doors are open. However, when you enter they tell you to leave, you cannot even order inside. Very deceptive practices. 2) Pandas in this region keep cutting entrees. First they cut black pepper chicken (it is less picked because it isn't as iconic, but it is AMAZING if you give it a chance). Soon after (could have been the same time and I just found out during my next visit) they also cut Sweet and Sour Chicken. This one is iconic. Sometimes menu items are changed and replaced with other items (goodbye mandarin chicken), but these two items did not have a replacement (also why these items were NOT cut at locations outside of Michigan). The reason for being cut is that they are less popular, but even this is unfair. That is because you cannot order inside and the outside drive-through menu does not include all of the items that Panda offers (I do not believe sweet and sour chicken was listed on the drive-through menu and I know black pepper chicken wasn't). It is no wonder these items are underperforming when most customers may not even know that they exist (since they cannot see the items inside and they are not listed on the menu that is available to them). Sweetfire chicken also is not listed, is it going to be cut next? This is especially disappointing for me and my wife as black pepper chicken was one of my favorite two options and sweet and sour was one of her two favorites. 3) Customer service has been a lot worse, but I am willing to give them a pass on this one as it is hard to retain employees right now. Save your money, at around $9 for a two-item plate, you would be better off buying chinese from a more authentic, local restaurant (there are quite a few in this area). If Panda brings back some of these items and/or opens up the lobby then I might be back, but until then I will spend my money elsewhere. read more

Very family friendly staff and customer service. They went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Food was what I expected from any past experience with Panda Express... Not my favorite but I don't eat meat so I can't speak on the quality of any of those dishes. My husband seems to like it. I don't normally write reviews but they were so exceptional with their service I felt it would be unfair not to give them a positive review. The music is far to loud and adds to the chaos of a staff that has not figured each other out. The supervisor entered half way through a huge order, to assist his staff. He took charge and moved people through, around the huge order. It still went very slow. This place has "express" in the name. I was in a hurry, should have went to my regular place. I fully understand that they were slammed with a huge order. The food is nothing special, the chicken breast was of a frozen variety and mushy after they did their stir fry. The side vegetables were the best part. Huge chunks of broccoli and zucchini. The condiment area was messy, littered with unused lids for beverages and unwanted napkins. The manager offer me a small beverage for my wait. I dont drink soda, so got an ice water. It was an empty gesture. He should have thrown in some rangoons or something of value. And when I went there last night I got a discount for having to wait I'd say maybe 1 min and a half in the drive thru. Very good customer service very friendly staff clean establishment. I know it can happen anywhere but it happened here an I got Food Poising from this location on May 18th 2019. Im not sure what exactly made me sick but i can let you know of my experience. The noodles were undercooked and hard the broccoli/ veggies were soggy and looked brown or burnt, i don't know how old these dishes were but there were no flavors. read more

Our family ate at the Panda Express near Oakland University and had a great dinner. My daughter and I were excited to visit the Comstock Park location. We are both vegetarian and enjoyed the tofu options at the PE near Oakland. Upon arrival at the Comstock Park location we were told tofu will no longer be served at the the Panda Express locations in our region. We were both disappointed and opted to eat elsewhere.
