I love the beautiful old world decor with the dark rich wood and the beautiful murals that they have kept as well. It's so nice to know one of Bakersfield's traditional restaurants has been kept in tact. Tony was our awesome server this evening. We each started with the tasty wonton soup. Warm and soothing with tender wantons & vegetables in as rich broth. We had the sweet and crunchy walnut shrimp, so mouthwatering! We also offered the dumplings in red sauce. My companion ordered the red sauce on the side. I actually prefer the dipping sauce. So we both got to have it our way. If you haven't been lately and are looking for a delicious Chinese meal this is the experience you are looking for.

After we passed the homeless man drinking the green algae water outside, all was good from there. It was 102 degrees when we arrived, and soon as you walked in the delicious cold air hit us. This place is big! Perfect for big groups. We were greeted right away, and our drinks brought to us quickly There are so many options to choose from. I always love a good bowl of sizzling rice soup, so had to get that. My hubby ordered the spicy crispy beef, and I got the coconut shrimp. The crispy beef was so tender and amazing flavor. My shrimp wasn't white cream I expected on the top, it was a different color. I'm not sure why, but I didn't care it was delish. The portions are large, we will be eating the leftovers for a couple days. The owner was so nice, too. Don't let the outside fool you. Go check it out! 8/17/26

The red-est bowl in the picture (sweet and sour boneless chicken) was $15. The bowl is smaller than my hand! Waste of $15 gas, plus another $30 for the food, and it wasn't even worth it. Service wasn't even great either. ABSOLUTELY would not recommend.

This time the son and I decided to dine in and the food was borderline spoiled, nothing tasted fresh and it wasn't hot, nor warm. Our food was borderline cold. The interior was dusty and in need of attention, especially the fake plants. Though spacious when we entered there wasn't a soul in the place, which was a red flag, but per usuh we brought people. I'm not sure if our food was so nasty because we ordered a lunch special and they reserve what's going bad for those orders because the other four families dining in didn't seem to be having the same experience. What saved this review from being a 1 star review and the only reason I didn't complain to the waitress about the quality of the food is because the only server was elderly and unable to pick up her feet and my very gracious son said to lig, so I did, but it appears if the couple who runs the restaurant doesn't get some help soon they may need to close their doors.

I ordered the rice bowl dinner and specifically told our server that I wanted the soft noodle chicken chow mein that comes with the meal. When my food arrived, it had crunchy noodles instead. I let the server know that this wasn't what I ordered. He seemed confused and told me to keep the plate and that he would bring me a side of chicken chow mein. Since everyone else's food was already at the table, I agreed. The problem is, he never brought it. By the time he returned, he was bringing takeout containers and the bill. I had to remind him that I was still waiting for my chow mein. A minute later, he came back with a small bowl of what appeared to be plain boiled noodles. When I explained that I had ordered chicken chow mein, he told me those were the noodles that go underneath the vegetables. At that point, I was done arguing about it. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn't much better. It was bland and lacked the flavor and quality I remember Rice Bowl having in the past. What disappointed me even more was the way my complaint was handled. I brought the issue to the owner's attention, and I felt my concerns were simply disregarded rather than taken seriously or addressed. Mistakes happen in restaurants, and I understand that, but how management responds to a customer when something goes wrong says a lot about the establishment. Rice Bowl has been a longtime Bakersfield restaurant, and I genuinely remember a time when both the food and service were much better. Based on this experience, it feels like the quality and customer service have declined significantly. We came here to celebrate my mother's birthday and left frustrated and disappointed. Unfortunately, after the poor service, bland food, incorrect order, and the way my complaint was handled by the owner, I will not be returning. I also would not consider hosting another family celebration or event here.

The addition menu, is well priced for adding coconut shrimp or salt and pepper shrimp (the S&P shrimp comes fully shelled with heads, which I like) Star Items: their "steamed" dumpling order is significantly larger than what you'd get at other restaurants. Their Wonton Soup is also really good. It comes with a good amount of wonton, and they offer it spicy (Careful it is, temperature-hot, hotter than the heart of the volcano, so let it cool down before you eat up) They also do a pretty amazing order of Fried Meat Wonton. Better than almost any Ive had in Bakersfield. the only downside is I wish they had a little more meat in them. The staff is friendly, the dining area is clean, and small so it's usually packed for people getting their food to go. Oh, they also have a thing called a "chicken on a stick". In the display case. I imagine it looks like an item that has sat out way too long, but that's the chard I assure you it is hot, crunchy, has a good flavor, and has a great price. This is the Chinese place you go when you want a budget Panda Express that doesn't skimp on the flavors.

The steamed rice was oily, and the oil was rancid and left an aftertaste. The chow mein was good, however. The broccoli beef had an odd texture and a fishy aftertaste. The orange chicken wasn't trimmed properly or fried right and as a result the chicken had lots of fat/gristle, and the breading was squishy. The teriyaki chicken was actually cold...not "not hot" but cold like it had been pulled from a fridge and not warmed all the way through. It was so bad my family actually threw away whole plates of food, which was REALLY disappointing for $70 worth of food. Oh, and two of the four ordered egg rolls were left out.

Heard about this place on IG... So I thought I would give it a try. I was super excited to go in…read moreand try since the review on IG sounded like the food was amazing. The place is like your standard Chinese takeout restaurant, where you have premade dishes, ready to be served with white rice, fried rice, or chow mein noodles. The menu has standard items such as orange chicken, general, chicken, chicken, teriyaki, honey, walnut, shrimp, honey, chicken, mushroom chicken, and so. They also offer egg rolls, cream, cheese, wontons, and soup. What stands out about this place is that they offer a catering menu, unlike some of the other homegrown Chinese takeout places. The restaurant itself is very clean although had a strong smell of Fabuloso and the tables in the floors were a bit sticky. They have one singular bathroom and it was clean. The person who took my order was very nice, friendly, and professional. She was very eager to give me a taste of the entrées in case I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat and I thought that was very cool. I purchased a bowl with half fried rice and half chow mein, and one entrée. For my entrée chose the honey shrimp. my meal came with a fountain drink so that was good. The entrée is $9.99 however, because I got the shrimp, it was a little bit extra. I wish I had gone when the IG people were there doing their reel... Because my food didn't taste anything like how they described it. The honey shrimp was very tasty and the shrimp was cooked perfectly however, every now and then I would get a huge puffy piece. I was not impressed with the fried rice nor the chow mein. I was expecting it to have a wok-seared flavor, like how it was described by the couple doing the reel on IG. For me, it was very plain, in fact, at one point, I thought the chow mein noodles were spaghetti noodles. While the meal satisfied my hunger, since it was dinner time, I likely will not be going back... Sorry, peeps I still have not found good Chinese food in Bakersfield. I hope you have a different experience, and if you do, enjoy!

Being a frequent visitor to the best regions offered in SGV, I reluctantly yielded to lunch in Bakersfield on the way home from our road trip. We sat and perused the menu and I noticed the lack of dim sum on the appetizer menu so I asked. No, they don't have any dim sum. Bummer! I was looking forward to some shu mai, egg tarts and sesame rolls I had seen in Yelp photos. Ok, no worries. My friend likes sweet & sour and we both wanted fish, so we ordered S&S cod, dry rice noodle BBQ pork, chicken breast w/mushroom and a special, honey walnut shrimp. We agreed the BBQ w/rice noodle was yum, as was the chicken breast and mushroom. The cod was a BIG disappointment. All batter, no fish. Bummer! When I tried to get the breaded coating off the cod, it was stuck like glue and the cod seemed to disintegrate. The honey walnut shrimp was slightly better, but I wasn't use to the shrimp being breaded this much. I could tell it was a different coating from the cod and lighter, so it was easy to remove, which made me think they coat the shrimp themselves, but not the cod, which seemed pre-coated, possibly frozen, then deep fried. Shrimp coating aside, my friend and I found the honey walnut shrimp sugar sweet, not honey sweet. My friend tried and didn't like. I enjoyed the nice walnuts. All plates were generous portions so we had 4 boxes of leftovers. The cod went out with the bins as soon as I got home. The restaurant itself was traditional Chinese decor. Large fish tank with a very large fish and a story that they bought it when it was about 3", then discovered it could grow to accommodate its tank. Luckily, it isn't a cod! Bathroom was clean, but the horrific A/C noise came right in through the roof, making an uncomfortable pitch in my ears. My friend got what she requested and I got what I expected. Cheers! "CC"
