An assortment of yumminess

Always on the hunt for good fresh pan dulce and we stumbled upon Panchitas Bakery. Upon walking in, it is a little underwhelming for those looking for Instagram worthy pictures, but the baked good are delicious. You grab a tray and tongs next to the counter and help yourself. We got some concha, cuernos, fruit empanadas and a few cookies. Everything was reasonably priced and super fresh. What it lacks in ambiance it makes up for in deliciousness.

Back in the old days you could go inside and wander about breathing the fresh baked goodness. Now you just get a whiff through the window. I guess it's better as you don't have to worry about people touching and breathing on the treats. I had a good feeling as I watched the bakery lady package up my pan de muertos from the oven rack. It was still warm and the scent of anise filled the car. Sugar was sprinkled on the outside adding a bit of sweetness. The thin outside layer had a little crunch while the inside was delicate and fluffy a bit like a cinnamon roll. I loved the flavor of this yeast based bread which had some sweetness and anise flavor. This is the best pan de muertos I've had as I got lucky and was able to get it fresh out of the oven. Other years it's been sitting around for awhile and the flavors and aroma were not as vivid. Pan de muertos is only available starting the week before Día de los Muertos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Dead This year it's Nov 1 -2. It is a celebration to pay respects to friends and family who have died. Panchitas appears to be baking it fresh at 2pm each day. I'll be returning before November 2 so I can do more celebrating.

Coworker brought in sweets from Panchitas and I sampled everything so I can write a review for onlookers. 4/5 chocolate sponge roll with shredded coconut: This was my favorite of them all. I'm not sure why the filling is red, but it tastes like chocolate. I like the soft sponge cake and texture of the shredded coconut. 3.75/5 chocolate chip cookie: literally a cookie with sweet chocolate chips. I prefer my chips integrated. 3/5 Apple filled empanada: the filling was a bit lackluster for me.

I went there to satisfy the craving of a chocolate concha. The bread was hard as rock! I will not be back. Panchita's at C st is way better.

As someone who is not big on coffee, this latte was actually so so good, and I would definitely recommend. I also tried a bite of the Bibimbap Croissant which was yummy too. Service was amazing! The staff were welcoming, friendly, and quick. They checked on us frequently and made sure if we needed anything else / if we enjoyed our food. They also offered us samples of a new item, the Coconut Pumpkin Bun, coming out around October. It was warm and not too sweet - a perfect balance in my opinion. The atmosphere and ambience was clean and cozy. It was a nice place for our group to enjoy some drinks and a quick bite. Everyone enjoyed themselves! Overall, I highly recommend checking this place out! I will definitely be back :)

To me, it tasted very similar to a flavored hazelnut latte from Starbucks. Even with reduced sweetness, it was still sweeter than I prefer and had a slightly artificial flavor. If you enjoy flavored Starbucks-style coffee, you'll probably like it, but it's just not my personal preference. I actually didn't finish my drink because the flavor wasn't for me. That said, the cashier was very sweet, and the dessert display looked beautiful and tempting. While the coffee didn't win me over, I'd still come back to give their desserts a try since they looked much more appealing than the drink I ordered. Overall, a nice spot with friendly service, but next time I'll be skipping the flavored coffee and trying one of the desserts instead.

It's a small little place with a few tables outside its doors - still within the store. We came on a random weekday afternoon and it looked like most things were in stock. They said everything wasn't so sweet, which is a very good thing for when coming from Asian adults. I concur, the pastries weren't too sweet and the fillings/cremes were generous. I love pastries with filling and all of the ones I got did. I really enjoyed my selection. My favorite from most to least was: crème brûlée, pistachio, mango, almond, and fig.
