A regular Ankeny lunch spot for many. Easy access off of Delaware, plenty of parking, quick and friendly service. The food and the service have been very consistent over the past few years, we eat lunch here about 2x a month. If you've never eaten at a Panchero's before, it's a "fast casual" type Tex-Mex place with burritos, rice and bean bowls, chicken, steak, carnitas and soft drinks. They don't really have any desserts, or a bar... The seating is very open, it's mostly booths and high-top tables. Perfect for a lunch or quick / casual dinner on the go - definitely not a destination type restaurant. If you are travelling from out of town, it's about 1 mile north of the Oralabor exit on I-35, and about 3 miles north of I-80 (just off of I-35). There are a ton of other things at that exit including gas, Wal-Mart and farm stores. It's fairly easy to get on and off, though the light at Oralabor and Delaware can be a long one. read more

Gross. We waited a weirdly long time to be helped even though they all saw us there. Unfortunately a worker wiped her nose with her gloved hand... then never. Changed. Gloves. She topped my bowl and his burrito with the same gloves. The tortilla split when they tried to wrap it-- probably because they used a tortilla that was sitting on the bar before we walked in. Then she just plopped the torn burrito into another fresh tortilla, took like 3 minutes trying to fold it the right way, handled my husbands cash WITH THE SAME GLOVES, and went on to help the next people in line. I just couldn't bring myself to eat more than a few bites after thinking about other gross stuff and the smell of the place. The bathrooms were also nasty, looked like they hadn't been touched by cleaning supplies in a bit. Seems like my experience isn't uncommon in reading the rest of these recent reviews. Yikes. Someone from pancheros up above should get some training and protocols implemented asap. read more

In noticed a post 10 days ago talking about the poor smell. The store did not have that problem today but excelled at other short comings. The store was dirty and garbage cans overflowed. The person doing the tortillas left them in the grill far too long and I had to ask for a new one since it looked like a corn chip. The guy on the cash register was far more interested in conversations with a non employee than doing anything else. I am not interested in speaking with anyone about this issue because if you just showed up you would get the picture. Pancheros has a great story but other stores are also store slipping. read more

The burritos were made very sloppy! Not only that, we ordered on the app to save time. They served everyone who was eating in before our order even started. It took 20 minutes after we arrived to get our burritos. You might as well save your time go to the one in Ames!!! One of the burritos didn't even have meat or cheese. I ordered on Suoerbowl Sunday at halftime expecting a delay and it was surprisingly on time- however the quantity of the entrees was disappointing for paying over $50 for four items. Stopped for lunch while passing through Ankeny on the way home, was looking for some fast Mexican food and Panchero's fit the bill. I settled on a Pork Carnitas Burrito, it was pretty cool how that beautiful ball of dough was flattened into a tortilla shell. I found it hard to figure out the toppings and everything was extra$. I don't think everything is listed on the board and they don't do a good job of explaining everything. My Burrito was very good, but I would have liked a few more toppings. I would have liked peppers, onions, lettuce, etc. The board just didn't work on what was what. Going to go average for now until I can figure out the menu, definitely would give it a try. read more

I had the worst service at the Ankeny location last night. I'm not complaining just to complain but as a Doordash driver my customers, other dashers and their customers and other customers who ordered carry out were all affected by this and your management team needs to know so they can fix the issue going forward. I had 2 door dash orders that came to me at the same time. I accepted both. I went to the restaurant and there were several people waiting in the pickup area and a line of customers ordering. One lady kept asking about her order that was supposed to be ready 15 mins before that, she ended up leaving without her food. They were making orders out of order, and letting people walk in and order, get their food before people who had been waiting a long time. My orders should have been ready close together since they were ordered back to back. After quite a wait I finally got one order. I told them I had 2 orders and asked if it would be long because I didn't want the first order to get cold while waiting. They said "I hope so". I said I was going to unassign myself and let another driver pick it up then. Unfortunately I was not able to do that so I had no choice but to wait it out. I took the first order to my car, left it running with the heat on hoping it would keep it warm. Half an hour later I got the second order (which had actually been placed before the first order I received). Both orders got to customers 30-45 minutes late! I have fast food experience, I understand things happen. People call in and leave the store short staff, or with this virus and it being busier than it has been in days there weren't enough people there, or whatever, but there really is no reason to not get caught up on old orders before starting new ones. read more

Worst Pancheros location ever! Can I give a 0 stars? Use to be the biggest pancheros fan, but this specific Pancheros has gone down hill drastically. My burrito is cold, tortilla way too undercooked, mixed meats, bland and just taste so gross. The store itself is disgusting, staff is too disgruntled and looked like we were all inconveniencing them at 7 at night. After reading reviews, I'm so sad and confused. Just Get better staff, make the best food like you use too, clean your disgusting, dirty location. The west Des Moines location knows what they are doing, maybe this one should take notes. So we had Pancheros for our Saturday work lunch. There's 8 orders and we're busy at our shop so I call for delivery they say you gotta do that online in which I didn't have the time for the app so we called back day we'll pick it up. I had 8 stylist to order for. The guy wasn't ready for a big order cool understand he writes the orders down asked for a Total he said he's have to call back ok cool. Calls back in about 5 minutes so he was prompt. At the end of the call he says to me For future reference can you use the online app to order... We just spent 80 and you wanna tell me how to order? The worst experience I have had at a Pancheros. I went in to order two burritos, one for my husband and one for me. The woman barely heated up the burrito shell and was incredibly rude from the start. My husband's toppings were completely messed up because she refused to let me tell her the toppings one at a time. The burritos were both soggy, mine did not taste nearly as good as it usually does (I get the same thing everytime) and my husband hated his because the toppings were not what he wanted. Very unfortunate! The employee at the cash register was equally as rude and didn't even put everything in the to-go bag. read more

I was always a Chipotle guy and never had Pancheros before until a group of coworkers wanted to eat there for lunch. I actually did not know what Pancheros had to offer until I walked in and realized "Oh this is like a Chipotle" Writing this review I have already been to this Pancheros multiple times because I enjoy it. The best way I know how to describe it is that it has a more "Cooked" taste than Chipotle burritos. The Guac from Chipotle is far superior than any burrito place I've eaten at, including Pancheros. However, the Queso sauce from Pancheros is amazing. I get Queso in my burrito here instead of Guac. Now the Guac is not bad, I just dont find it as flavorful as Chipotle. The tortilla used here is freshly made as gives it that soft texture. This location is usually pretty busy during peak hours and parking could a challenge due to the large parking lot being shared with multiple shops and restaurants. Price is pretty standard for build your burrito shops. Staff at this location has always been friendly, no issues. Until Ankeny gets a Chipotle, this is my go to burrito place. read more

I regularly visit Pancheros and love the food, it usually is a good portion for a good price and tastes very good, but my experience at this Pancheros was the opposite of that. first of all they had signs up saying you had to order online due to staffing issues, yet had someone working at the register just writing the names on the burritos, how would ordering in the restaurant add any more work? Also the portion sizes given were absolutely aburdl small. My burritos are normally over double the size. one burrito had extra meat, but was basically 2d, a flat folded up tortilla. this was an absolute waste of money and I will never be returning to this location. read more

I got here right at lunch time and had no wait to get through the line. The staff was pleasant and efficient. The flavors were great and the food was all good. The size of the burritos is huge. I can easily make two meals out of them. The restaurant and restroom was clean and using the app I scored a free burrito as well. read more
