Part of the menu on 6/2/25

This was an awesome find. The suprise me portion of Yelp app didn't disappoint. Staff was friendly and service and food was quick. The chips and salsa were great and I especially liked the salsa. It was a little spicier then other places so I didn't need to add any extra heat to it. Margaritas were great what's not to love about this spot.

#9 Lunch

Tuesday...Ruby Tuesday? No...Taco Tuesday! This place is near the office and is one of the few places I hadn't checked out yet...I'm quite happy that I did. My meal was nothing out of the ordinary...a combo plate with an enchilada, taco, rice, and beans. Lunch meat choices are ground beef, chicken, and shredded beef I believe. This particular combo plate was only $8.75. My meal also came with a small scoop of "cabbage"...which is actually a Mexican-inspired version of coleslaw. More vinegary than the American classic...it was a surprisingly good complement to my main plate. I wish it came on the side versus on the main plate, because it heated up rather quickly. The taco shell was fresh and the portions were quite lavish for lunch. Didn't seem smaller than many dinner combos I've had at similar establishments. The refried beans seemed creamier than most...something I enjoyed. Chips and salsa are included.,,I was out the door for $16 including tip...which I don't think is bad at all these days.

Burrito Gordo

As someone who was born and raised in California, Lindo Jalisco is my go-to spot when i'm craving mexican food for dinner. Not only is the service always amazing and friendly, the food is always delicious and perfectly seasoned. My favorite dish is the Burrito Gordo which is massive and stuffed with tender chicken. My wife's favorite dish so far is the Caldo Res, but she has tried a few others on the menu and has enjoyed just about everything she has tried. Not only that, but their chips and salsa is delicious as well! I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good mexican food in the heart of Iowa.

Chicken chipotle burrito

Visited for the first time, seated quickly. The staff is friendly and attentive. Our food came out lightening fast! We ordered the chicken chipotle burrito which was a huge portion, and 3 street tacos (pictured.) the food was good, pretty typical traditional Mexican food. My husband expressed that he loves spicy foods and they brought him out two additional house made hot sauces for him to try with his burrito. We enjoyed the fast and friendly service, they even let us sit for a bit after paying to finish our conversation without making us feel rushed to leave. Definitely a must try, we will be back!

Cheese dip.

Food was fine and the menu is huge! We had cheese dip and Guac with our chips and salsa. Everything was fine but nothing stood out. I always try mole wherever they have it on the menu. This was better than average that you normally find in Iowa. It was a little too sweet for me but that is a personal preference.

The food was tasty! This is a new restaurant and they are still working through some kinks. Our waiter was very friendly and good food, we'll go back!

Upon arriving in the afternoon for a late lunch with an empty stomach I ordered their birria torta…read morethat was recommended to me by the server. Restaurant was small, interior could've used a quick sweep. Restaurant was relatively quiet besides chatter from the workers whom seem to be friendly with one another which is a huge plus from a guest perspective. Walked out with a tab of $24 including time and entree with an iced coke which could use more ice in my humble opinion. Will definitely be back to try other options on their menu.

Flame Cantina in Ankeny promises a taste of Mexican street food with a modern twist, and for the…read moremost part, it delivers. My recent visit was a flavorful fiesta, with some dishes shining brighter than others. The Good: The homemade chips and salsa is a menu item (not complimentary) Which we don't mind because you are more mindful when eating them. They are also delicious and if you get the guacamole or the chees dip you will not be disappointed! Mango Shrimp Tacos: These were the stars of the show. The tortillas cradled juicy grilled shrimp, drizzled with a vibrant mango Pico de Gallo and bathed in a creamy guajillo crema. The sweet and spicy combo was a true explosion of taste, and the shrimp cooked to perfection - tender and slightly smoky. Quesa Birria Tacos: These braised beef delights were another winner. The slow-cooked Angus beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in a rich, flavorful adobo sauce. The crispy tortillas held up well to the juicy filling, and the accompanying onion and cilantro dipping sauce added a refreshing touch. Atmosphere: The restaurant itself is a vibrant and inviting space. The open kitchen adds to the lively atmosphere, and the colorful décor transports you straight to a bustling Mexican cantina. The 'OK' Taco Salad: While the ingredients were fresh and flavorful (ground beef, black beans, corn, Pico de Gallo, cheese, and a tangy cilantro lime dressing), the salad suffered from a glaring omission - lettuce! A taco salad without lettuce is like a margarita without lime - it just feels incomplete. (To be fair - our server offered to go get my Wife some lettuce, I just thought it was worth noting.) Service: The service was friendly, and on-point. Tristan kept the drinks filled and was attentive without being over bearing, in a small place like this it is a good balance. Overall: Flame Cantina offers a delicious and vibrant taste of Mexican street food, with some dishes truly excelling. The mango shrimp and birria tacos were standouts, and the atmosphere is perfect for a casual and fun dining experience. Just be sure to request extra lettuce for your taco salad, and you're good to go! Final Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars. Flame Cantina is a great choice for a casual and flavorful Mexican meal, with a few minor tweaks needed to truly ignite all five stars. Pro Tips: Try the spicy hot sauce - ask for it, it one of the better ones I've had because it has both the heat and the flavor! Saturday's are $3 tacos until 5pm! I hope this review helps you decide whether to give Flame Cantina a try!
