This place has become a favorite go to. The folks serving us there are always friendly, fast and nice. The place is always clean and well organized. They are efficient and the food and selection is always as fresh as possible. Prices are slowly rising but still very competitive and way better than the other build a burrito type shops! Food is very delicious full of flavor for somewhere that it really order and go. The rice was fluffy and full of flavor. Carne asada tacos - brought flavor to the next level. Best tacos I have had since visiting Mexico a few years ago. Their queso is fantastic as well! read more

I really am glad that I listened to the Yelp ratings and stopped by. We didn't know what to expect. Walked into a room with bright big smiles and great smells. I didn't know what I wanted but my husband asked right away what size of wrap they used on their burritos. 13 in was what they used for their burritos. That's a ton of food. He got a burrito which then also comes with their chips and salsa. I had to ask a couple questions to figure out what I wanted. She directed me to her favorite meat. They were super helpful with all my questions. I decided to go with a chimichangas with steak. Since I wasn't into beans they let me have extra rice. I also was treated to chips and salsa. The salsa was very good. Flavorful and the perfect spice for me. The entire experience and food was great! Between the excellent customer service and full belly's I was very happy. Go! GREAT Mexican dining. You walk up to the counter (someone ALWAYS gives you a friendly greeting) and they ask if you're ready to order. Make no mistake, this place can by VERY busy, so if you're not prepared, just step aside, let someone else order, then get back in line. How easy is that? My chicken burrito was stuffed with meat, and I loaded it up with assortment of extras. Don't forget the chips and salsa, and get some queso too! This place is new and hopefully has a tremendously bright future in Ankeny! I was indecisive and asked the guy which of my two chosen items I should choose from between the chimichanga or the steak burrito. He recommended the burrito. I went with it: steak, Mexican rice, black beans, 2 cheeses, sour cream, cilantro and mild salsa. Next time I wouldn't add salsa because it made my burrito a little too liquidy. The flavor of the meat was excellent! I loved the chips and queso as well. My husband also got a burrito but he added fresh sauteed vegetables and said it really added a great flavor. Amigos never disappoints! I've been here several times and the food is always on par with my taste buds. What does that mean? #Boom Get in my mouth you Glorious taste of food concoction! I like that I can see all the meat choice just sitting there marinating in all that sweet goodness. I'm a real big fan of the chicken as well as the steak tacos. Sprinkle on a little bit of cheese and some hot sauce (several options to choose from) and those bomb ass tacos go down quickly. I went right at 11am when it opens and there was already a line, so I was expecting good food and man I got it! I got two al pastor and one barbacoa flour street tacos. They were so mouth watering. I ordered to go and there are so many meats to choose from and many toppings too. It also comes with free chips and salsa! I got salsa on my tacos and it had just the right amount of heat. I work close by, love Mexican food and saw the reviews and had to give it a try. I honestly wanted to give it 3 stars but I am giving it the benefit of the doubt and will come back and try some other items. I had the Chorizo street tacos. I know I am biased because I travel to Mexico often, but I have had better street tacos in Chicago at similar places. The chorizo was not that flavorful, the corn tortillas were a little on the soggy side and there just wasn't enough cilantro to set it off. The ingredients are fresh and the salsa is good, but this is not 5 star taco good. Some of the other prepared meats looked amazing and smelled just as good. I am going back to try some other options. One last thing. The service and employees are very friendly and make you feel welcome. Keep it up! read more

I was kind of confused as to why my to go order wasn't ready when I had called it in 15 minutes prior to arriving, and the person who took the call asked if I needed more time after letting me know it will be ready in 7-10 minutes luckily who ever the cook was, knew exactly what i ordered and made my food right away but the cashier was a bit flustered. she ended up having me cut in front of the lady that was in line to pay and she almost paid for my order. read more

Good food.. large servings when making a burrito or street tacos. Freshly warmed soft corn tortillas.. chips and salsa were average at best.. grilled chicken looked awesome too as a protein choice. The only dig I can give the gal making my street tacos was the "dusting" of cheese they applied to my tacos. Barely pinched any and then barely put any on the taco and actually put some back into the cheese bin.. with the rate in which they add cheese the bin in question could last months. If they figure out cheese deal and make the chips and salsa something other than an after thought it would be a 5 star.. read more

It's not a very big place but don't let that stop you from stopping in! My wife and I went here for my birthday and were blown away from how good the food was! It was reasonably priced as well, they also have tv's for people who want to watch the game while they wait for their food and while you eat your food. You definitely leave getting your money's worth!! read more

This is the hole in the wall (suite in the strip mall) that I have been looking for. Good variety of menu options with a few more esoteric choices The Hawaiian burrito features chorizo and pineapple. Nothing fancy and no decor but good food, staff is friendly and will remember your order for taco Tuesday. read more

Favorite Mexican spot in Ankeny! So many options for protein in tacos, or burritos. I believe I counted 9 last time. Have gone many times and each time am satisfied with the service and also the taste of the food. Really appreciate the chips and salsa that is included with each entree item. It's awesome being able to support local businesses and highly enjoy it! Very quick if you're wanting to take to go or to sit and eat. Amigos makes excellent burritos with a friendly staff and fast service. I got the Hawaii burrito with chicken, and I would recommend it to anyone. The burritos are massive and come with a complimentary bag of chips and salsa. The burrito and chips are enough to satiate even the largest appetites. My husband and I ordered takeout after seeing all the fantastic reviews, and Amigos does live up to the hype!! We started out with an order of chips and queso. I am a huge fan of their queso! They don't over spice it and it's super creamy!!! Their chips were warm and cripsy. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito, it was firstly huge!!! I couldn't finish it all, and had lunch for the next day. But it was delicious, the nice thing is they have you customize it, I got it pretty simple, beans, tomatoes, rice, lettuce. It was packed full of steak and rice and the tortilla was light and crispy! I also ordered a side of refried beans which were equally delicious and very authentic!! My husband ordered the chicken quesadilla with guacamole, I had to sneak a bite and it was delicious packed full of chicken and cheese. The guacamole I will have to order as a side because it was very simple, not overly spiced but delicious!! We also each ordered a Horchata, very refreshing and delicious!!! Hey yo, I don't understand how this place got 5 stars but I'll give my review. Margaritas for $3.99 great price, came from a water cooler on the front counter, hard to take down(gave me heartburn right away). Ordered a burrito, made just like Pancheros does, rice was salty, meat was dry no flavor, and the condiments just slapped on. Queso was really watery for some reason. read more

This is fast good Mexican and not bad. Salsa had a lot of chili powder and guacamole had a good flavor. Chips were average. Grilled chicken and marinated pork tacos were ok with a little flavor. Okay, so I'm going to be completely honest. I have gone back & forth with myself about posting a review about Amigo's for completely selfish reasons. This is literally now my favorite place to stop for a quick bite of Mexican food. I didn't want to share because I didn't want the word to get out and run the chance of this place becoming busy. Alas, I just can't do it. I have to be fair to the others in the Des Moines & Ankeny areas craving great Mexican food. My son & husband love the burritos that have to weigh a pound each. My son loves the trio which includes shrimp, chicken & carne asada steak. It is well worth the ten dollars & fills my endlessly hungry teen up, at least momentarily. Ha, ha. My husband loves the carne asada steak burrito filled with Mexican rice, black beans & all the fixings. I could live off the guacamole they make here! If you like street tacos they have those as well and they too are great! The staff I have come in contact with are unbelievably nice and the place has been really clean every time we come in, which is quite often. Really, do yourself a favor & try them out. I don't think you'll be sorry that you did. read more

What a little gem this place is. The staff are really friendly and food is super fresh and delicious. I love my food well-seasoned and they do not disappoint. It's set up like a Pancheros or a Chipotle where you go through an assembly line. Please skip your next trip to Pancheros/Chipotle and come here instead. The food is much, much better and really fresh-about the same price, too. They have so many choices. I've never had a bad thing here. Two thumbs up all the way. read more

Ordered dinner through delivery.com. One of the orders was a 3-pack of street tacos, but only received two. When I called them to request a correct order be delivered, I received a voicemail that doesn't even identify them as a business. My steak quesadilla was greasy, sides were cold and the chips were bush league - like they went to Fareway and bought bags of the cheapest chips available. Only redeeming quality of the whole meal was the salsa. I'll never order from here again. read more

I think there were 2 people working the whole restaurant so service was okay. The margarita was fantastic, couldn't taste any alcohol though. My husband said the food was average, but we liked the queso. The salsa was very juicy- yay! but had a strong onion flavor. Overall, average place and seemed a little pricier than competitors. Might come back to try the lunch and drink specials!

The shrimp was cooked perfectly, tender and fresh. The rice and beans on the side were warm and tasty, and the complimentary chips and salsa were a great start to the meal, especially with both a mild and a hot salsa to choose from. Overall, a really satisfying and well-balanced meal! The employees there were attentive and warm to us, even though it wasn't busy at all since we went during off-peak hours. The restaurant was also spacious and was clean!
